"cannot Assign String" Error

Apr 29, 2007

I need to progrmatically do this inside a loop

this.fh03.value = fixFloat (Harms[1], numPoints) ;

with the numbers changing per an index.

If I try

curHvals = "03" ; // (derived from index to provide leading zero)

( "this.fh" +curHvals + ".value" ) = fixFloat(Harms[ii],numPoints)

I get a [ Cannot assign string to 'string "this.fh03.value" ' error. ]

The right side of the equation works just fine elsewhere.
As does this.fh03.value elsewhere.

eval (...) does not work as it looks up the previous fh03 value rather
than replacing it with a new one.

What is the correct way to programatically loop calculated values with
fancy names?

Is there a command for string to named variable conversion?

Make Besttest[1] Arrays Value An Actual Variable Name And Assign It String Value "selected"?

Nov 1, 2010

I have interesting question about javascript. I'm no expert but I do understand coding for few languages and html. Let me give an example:

Illinois="";
Alabama="";
besttest[1]="Illinois";
strOut+='
<select>
<option value=illinois' +Illinois+ '>Illinois</option>
<option value=illinois' +Alabama+ '>Alabama</option>
</select>';

Would it be possible to make besttest[1] arrays value an actual variable name and assign it string value "selected"? I have "for" loop that returns the selected state and I need to somehow pass that variable name (which has value "selected") to option tag. And that variable name is the actual value of array.

Accessing String By Index In IE Error

Sep 22, 2006

( text )
var v = 'I am a string'alert(v);alert(v[0]);

Works fine in Mozilla but not in IE. v[0] in IE is 'undefined'

I've tried declaring v as new String(); and the problem still happens.
I've done some googling for this issue, but can't find anything on it.

Unterminated String Constant Error

Apr 6, 2005

I'm getting an error message come up in IE6 when somenone subscribes to my newsletter from my home page (either from the drop down hover box form or the left hand form) here .

After entering a name and email address
I get:

A runtime error has occurred....do you wish to debug?
Line 4
Error: Unterminated string constant

When I click NO I then get a second small windows popup which says:

A runtime error has occurred....do you wish to debug?
Error: Expected ')'

I've looked at lines 4 and 43 of my thanks.php page (the page subscribers get when they fill out the form but before they double optin via the email) and I can't find anything wrong. I guess the first message expects a semicolon and the second obviously a closing bracket. Code:

To do this, I have parsed the string to switch it to the following format yyyy,mm,dd. I have already created a new Date variable using the following: Date reqDate = new Date(2010,10,14) and had no issues. However, if I do the following: Date reqConvert = new Date (reqDate3) where reqdate3 = 2010,11,15
I get the following error: "Invalid Date".

Possible To Assign Variable To PHP?

May 2, 2011

I was wondering if it were possible to assign a PHP variable's value to that of a JS variable. What I mean is having a var in JS, and then making a PHP variable equal to the JS one.

Like this code...

Now of course, this file will be .php, and will be called as such when including it to a page (<script type="text/javascript" src="username.php").

The above code doesn't work... But I want to know if it can be done in such a manner. I just want a PHP variable to be equal to a variable in JS.
