Ajax + Prototype.js + Multipart/form-data
Sep 30, 2005
Is it possible to send an AJAX XMLHttpRequest using prototype.js API
for a multipart/form-data ?
I already done parsing form parameters and sending GET/POST request,
but does this work with <input type="file"> ?
Who handle file submit and encoding ?

I am using Bassistance Multipart demo . The thing that doesnt seem to work is when an error is shown the form does not scroll to, or focus on the form element if you are below the error.

Does anyone know where I can find an ASP server side script written in
JavaScript to parse text fields from a form method='POST' using
enctype='multipart/form-data'? I'd also like it to parse the filename.
<form name='form1' method='POST' enctype='multipart/form-data'
action='sub.asp'>
<input type='text' name='title1' value='value1'>
<input type='file' name='file1'>
</form>
I found a great ASP VBScript for uploading files, but the rest of my
Web site is coded in ASP using JavaScript and I can't figure out a way
to immediately pass the text fields already parsed from server side
VBScript to server side JavaScript.
My ASP code looks like this:
<script language="JavaScript" runat="server">
//I would like to add JavaScript to parse the text field and
filename of file1 here.
</script>
<!--The 3rd party document below parses all fields from the message
content and uploads any file fields it encounters.--->
<!--#include file="aspinclude/upload.asp"-->
<script language="JavaScript" runat="server">
//Add record here (title1, filename from file1).
</script>

I spent the best part of yesterday trying to get my form to be sent to the server however for the life of me I cannot figure out the problem. I haven't used prototype before but here is my code that I think should work perfectly fine,The php script works perfectly, i've entered test data into it and it makes a connection to the third party server using curl and then requests information that I get back i.e. the routing id comes back. But I cannot test the data using the form as the request isn't working for some reason.

I'm a newbie jquery user so I may be doing something wrong, but I'm doing it well. My use case tells that I need to send files to server and the server will throw an Excption when the file type is unkwown. We are only accepting text files such as word, so a movie will get the mentioned exception.
It works on firefox, but on IE8 (and maybe others) I get a blank page since the line below gets a "Access Denied". It seems that the iframe that jquery builds gets inconsistent.

I have a simplified version below of a multipart form. There are two steps and two tabs. I want the user to enter their username and email address and click 'Next' which will validate to make sure those fields are filled in, then activate and advance to tab #2 (Step #2) of the form, where they enter their credit card information.
I am having difficulty because username, email and credit card are all in the same form and I need to only validate certain fields on each step of the form. I was thinking I could make a function when the 'Next' button was hit that would validate the first two fields?
Here is what I have so far. I have a 'Next' button which activates and advances the tab to Step #2, but I need to work some form of validation into it before it advances. At the bottom of the page I have a 'Submit' button which is just so you can see that the validation is working if the form is submitted. I just want the 'Next' button to activate a function to only validate the fields on Step #1 (username/email).
Give it a look:[url]

I have a problem with sending data from a form to a php script with AJAX. To test if it works, I try to send data from the form, print it in the php with "echo", and then put it back in the initial html file.
My Javascript code is:
The function stateChanged, basically says:
The problem is that the response is empty, but I don't know why. I have checked the input data and the postData variable says "firstName="+input (e.g. "firstName=Robert"), so that's not the error.

The server i'm trying to post data to in an ajax call expects data in xml format, including a particular attribute value. I have to use Chrome browser which does not support the XML Class (e4x).
I tried to marshal my data as follows:
But the ajax call does not appear to transfer the xml data to the server even though the xmlhttprequest call appears ok in Chrome's developer tool console.
I'm wondering whether I'm forming the xml formatted data correctly.

I am writing a form that grows using ajax server responses to info as the form is filled in and everything is fine in standards compliant browsers but IE is having a problem. I have two js functions on the page that collect form data, send it to the server, and then write the server response as innerHTML to specified divs on the page. This works great in FF but in IE it runs the first function but fails on the second function and the two functions are identical except for the server routine.
The div that is populated with the server response so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the coding because if one works, and they are identical, the other should work too so perhaps IE is choking with the way it is handling two ajax objects on the same page? You will need to add something to the shopping cart first at [uRL] and proceed to checkout, then on the checkout page look in the url and change ste_chkout_proc to ste_checkout_proc and load the new url to see the dev checkout vs. the live checkout.

I have a form which goes to my insert page which inserts the data into the table. Except I didn't want to do a redirect to another page so I thought I would do an Ajax call. Both pages work until I change it to an ajax call.
I am pretty certain that it is because I took out the <form action="insert.php"> because otherwise the page would redirect but if that is the case I don't know my way around it and if it isn't the problem I'm not sure what is.
But here is my code:

I'm using Prototype's AJAX to get the "alert" the response of a simple PHP script (a script that echoes a single line), but it doesn't seem to work. Here's the code:
function init()
{
var url = "http://localhost/script.php";
var myAjax = new Ajax.Request(
url,
{
onSuccess: showResponse
});
}
function showResponse(response)
{
alert(response.responseText);
}
window.onload = init;
The code has no errors, but still doesn't show the response even if i add an onFailure event handler. What could be wrong?

i am trying to make the contents of one drop-down box dependent on the
contents of another using AJAX (prototype.js) and PHP
I have it working so that a new dropdown appears when i select a value
in the first dropdown:
<?php echo $html->selectTag('Review/cruiseline', $cruise_lines, null,
array('onchange'=>'new Ajax.Updater('test', 'ships?variable=12',
{ method: 'get' }, {asynchronous:true, evalScripts:true});'), null,
true, false);?>
In my php script (which is located at URL 'ships'), I am just getting
the value of 'variable' from the $_GET super global but I obviously
want that value to be dynamic and equal to the value selected in the
dropdown.
So the missing piece is passing the selected dropdown value from
HTML / Javascript to PHP. Anyone know how to do that?

I've been working on some prototype and scriptaculous stuff for a domain management DB at work. I have all the areas working I that I need them too, and I have the InPlaceEditor working.. but all I need to do is get the 'saving' to the DB to work.
My dilema is on the form, there are 7 form fields. I have it set to that when the user clicks out of the text box, I want it to update the DB right then and there. So for each updatable item, I have:
PHP Code:
I set the options for the Cancel and Save button to be false and for it to update OnBlur. So the problem I run into is, I know how to update the DB with a full SQL statement, but to update them 1 at a time using this new AJAX features, I am running into some difficulties understanding the syntax for it.
I found this link at ONLamp.com and I think it's what I want to do, but not 100% positive.

Currently prototype does not support cross site ajax, such as dojo or jquery.
This is unfortunate, cause I am really used to prototype and would like to use this functionality.
What would be the best way for me to implement cross site ajax for prototype.
Note that I will still need the normal ajax functions as well, so a nice extend or something would be good.

I now need to add a file input to my form and pass the file upload ot the same PHP script.
I have read an article [url] which explains how to do this but this would suggest it is a completely separate function.
My question is, is there anyway I can expand my existing function (below) to inlude the file upload process to save having 2 functions doing the same process?
My Code:

My JavaScript is a bit above beginners, and I see they are using Prototype with some other effects.Now, on Firefox, I had saved the webpages but when I tried click on either of the 3 buttons, the JavaScript effect did not work. Can anyone show me how to implement something similar on my site?

What I have going on is an input box where they type in an account name. And the autocompleter works perfectly if they choose an item in the list.However, I want them to have the option of entering an account that is not in the list. And when they do this, the onblur event triggers the opening of the New Account box where they can fill out the new account information and submit the form back.Once again when a selection is made it works just fine, it's when the user creates a new account that it doesn't trigger the "getAccountInfo" function.
