Returning Data From Ajax To New Element
Aug 18, 2007
I'm having trouble placing some data returned by an ajax function in the page where I want it.
I've included the relevant html and the javascript function below. There is some php code included which works but is not relevant to this question. The first ajax part of the function works. I have tested it with positive results in another context.
The part starting with "var x . . ." is the part that is not working. This part is supposed to generate the following html: Code:

Currently, I'm building a website with jQuery. The function below helps me to get content from a database. In the file content_ajax.php there are some functions to handle ajax-requests. JS calls the PHP-function correctly (I've send an email to myself inside that function to check) but the script doesn't return 'succes' and doesn't give me an error...Also, when I put an alert inside the succes and error function, it doesn't popup!
What may be relevant: - site uses mod_rewrite for friendly url's

I have a list where each list item has a click event attached to it. Upon clicking a list item, the click calls a PHP script and passes the list's title attribute as a parameter to the script. How can I take the data returned (some HTML) from the AJAX call and append it to the list item which was clicked? I know that the data variable contains the correct HTML coming back from the script and thought that $ (this).append(data) would work but it doesn't. I was thinking of calling another function from within the AJAX return function call, but don't know how to reference the list item which was originally clicked.
$('li').click(function(){
$.get('script.php',{folder:$(this).attr('title')},function(data){
?
});
});

below are my code
$.getJSON("http://mydomain.com/phptest.php?jsoncallback=?",function(data)
{
alert(data.a);
});
phptest.php echos out the following
{"a":"hello world"}
Yet, when i made the json calls(cross domain), it just return me nothing. However, under the same domain, I got the pop-up alert and return me the relevant data. But getJSON is suppose to be feasible across all domains irrespective of the same-origin policy.

The following code nicely gets the element ID for the element under the mouse on the mouse down event. It ignores a disabled element though I am assuming there is some way to get this done!
// IE is retarded and doesn't pass the event object
if (e == null)
e = window.event;

I've written the following small feature test.
[Code].....
I want to remove 'div' before returning the function. Testing in IE something like div.parentNode.removeChild(div); will fail. If I look in the dom 'div's parentNode is null, so that explains that. It needs to be appended to something first I guess.

I'm attempting to simplify my javascript code when it comes to ajax, but afterwords it only prints 'undefined' to the screen rather than what I want it to print.
I want to be able to put something like this on my main page onclick="document.getElementById('output').innerHTML = print_output();" where print_output() is the ajax function. This way I don't have to use a function to assign values directly to innerHTML and I don't have to muck about with a js file whenever I want to change my page layout.
To do this, I created a recursive function:
function print_output(return_value) {
if a value has been passed to the function, simply return it
if(return_value || return_value == 0) {
return return_value;
}
[Code].....
but like I said, it prints 'undefined' out to the screen. Why isn't this printing the contents that it receives from 'index.php' like it's supposed to?

I can not for the life of me get an ajax example/tutorial to work. I have tried dozens including prototype library and JQuery.
Here is my latest attempt:
As you can see I am trying to alert the variable teamH but I keep getting an undefined in the alert. I also tried a static drop down and I received the same undefined alert.
How I get that variable to contain my drop down choice?

I'm making a script that requires cross-domain scripting to get the statuscode of other files. I'm currently using a small PHP script to relay the files from the remote server onto mine. If I want to get the files directly using AJAX, it is not allowed for obvious reasons. I don't want the actual files, I only want to get the status code of that file, and it is going to be either a 404 or a 301. I would've assumed that as the AJAX call is never attempted, the statusCode will be 0, and this is what the actual call variable returns.
However, in Firebug it shows the statuscode next to the request (404 or 301), even if, the call has never been made. Why is the statuscode appearing in Firebug but not in the statuscode variable?

I am trying to try jQuery 1.4.3 updated .data() method with HTML5 data attributes. The way I understood these changes is that an element with these attributes would automatically have their data populated by .data(). For example, if I have an element:
<ahref="#" data-cheese="cheddar">DataElement</a>
I can access this with .data('cheddar'). This part works fine. The issue I am having is that calling JUST data like $(this).data() just produces an empty object. Is this how it should be expected to function?

I am using .ajax() to access cross-domain data using JSONP. Because I need to be able to cache the data I want to use a static name for thejsonpCallback function, so I have set the jsonpCallback option in the .ajax() request. However that appears to requires a global function whereas the auto generated function didn't (well maybe it did but that was all hidden from me).
I definitely need to be able to cache the results. Ideally I wouldn't have a global function handling the data. Is there another way to do this? If not what is the best practice way to go about using a global function these days and how do I provide it with the context of the object/module it was called from - which is where the data is needed?

I am still new to jQuery and I am trying to figure something out. I have this code:
[Code]...
This is working fine on itself. What is does is when I click a link it loads data into the following div. When done loading it slides out. But I want to change the appearance of the slide. I have tried to do that like this: $(this).show("slide", { direction: "down" }, 1000); But this doesn't work. When I check firebug it says the following: o.easing[this.options.easing || (o.easing.swing ? "swing" : "linear")] is not a function

If I generate a new element via AJAX, jQuery don't listen to events at this element. I read that live() how to use this function together with post().
That's what I have:
$(document).ready(function() {
$.post('products.php', $('#products_form').serialize(), function(returnData) {
$('.target').html(returnData);
});

i have a series of <select> fields. The first one, via ajax(), generates a 2nd one, based on the first ones' data with the .change() method. there is then a 3rd <select> - who's data will depend on choice of the second one although step 1 works, and i can generate the 2nd one, i still can't generate the 3rd one.
when i test the script on its own, both the 2nd and 3rd <select> fields are fine - but not via the ajax, which leads me to believe that the .change() from the 2nd one, isnt triggering the ajax call - its not being picked up (even the 'hello' alert isnt working).

I wrote a little live clock in JS (using Steve Levithan's "date format" code) that formats the time display according to a format string. I then find all elements by classname and search for a classname of "clock" and write the clock string to the innerHTML of every element I find.But recently I added another "feature". Rather than hard code a format string, I instead pass it in ID. Example:
<span class="clock" id="hh:mm:mm tt"></span>
..and the JS:
var doClock = function () {
var now = new Date();
var e = getElementsByClassName('clock');
[code]...
Note that I am passing the clock FORMAT STRING by using the span's ID. It works great...
