Optimization - Building Objects In Visual Basic - Code Creates A Button Which Changes On Mouseover And On Mouseclick
May 15, 2011
I'm used to building objects in Visual Basic and I'm having difficulty simplifying this code into an object so I can just define and run about a dozen of them.
The code creates a button which changes on mouseover and on mouseclick. The button is a link to another page.
Also on mouseover the button slides to the right, giving a more intelligent feel for the user.
What are my options for streamlining this code so I can reduce the number of lines of code-clutter?
If visual basic and firebug doesn't show me any error and if code doesn't work on any browser...so what should i do. I did a little boring - to read my code again to find a simple syntax errors like - writte() for exemple.
But even that does not give me anything! Is there any good recomendations how to change it all?
Look at this code:
Browser gives me out only - Please enter a valid name
I've been interested in the internal structure of jQuery for as long as I can remember, but it can be overwhelming at the best of times, so I've recently made-good on my plans to create a visual, interactive breakdown of the physical code:
I was curious if anyone could show me how to create a button that will run a certain script ie: press button named "reveal" -> scroll box is created with other buttons inside it that do other functions.
I have an admin page in which I enter information for a Math Education website. I have to pre-load 10 video fields just in case a lesson has 10 videos. This is an over simplification:
[Code]...
What I would like to do is load 1 single video field and then have a button that when it is clicked automatically creates another field. I'm sure this is possible but everything I know I've learned from searching the internet and reading a few simple books so my knowledge is fragmented.
I'm rewriting our website at present, and am quite ok with HTML and CSS, but am not particularly au fait with Javascript.
Here's the page I'm having a bit of trouble with: [url]
If you look at the long button marked 'Diagnostics', you'll see it has an arrow and initiates a drop-down menu on mouse-over. My problem is that I wish to further subdivide the three items on the sub-menu, ie, Visual to become sub-menued into Dermatoscope and Penlight. In other words, the Visual button initiates another drop-down menu on mouse-over.
Basically, therefore, I'm trying to expand the Javascript to make this happen, but I just don't seem to able to.
Each link on mouseover, popups to the right and shows links to different pages within the site. example.. pumps. pops up the mouseover window and has 3 links to 3 different pumps, each on a separate pages. Where as the moters link may have 25 links to different kinds of motors etc.
I currently have a page which, when the user clicks a button creates a new row displaying a form. I also have other forms on this page how to close a form using javascript? My code to create the table row and form are below...
myform = document.createElement("form"); myform.method = "post"; myform.action = "editdetails.php"; myform.id = "editemail"; myform.name = "editemail"; var a=document.getElementById('editdetailstable').insertRow(2); var b=document.getElementById('editdetailstable').insertRow(3); [Code]....
is there a way in which I could optimize my code with just one for loop (see code below). I've come across this issue a few times now and haven't found a solution as yet.. As you can see from the code below I'm reusing the same loop throughout three functions, I basically see this as a waste. Is there a more efficient way where I could use the for loop just the once. Code:
My first day with jquery, and I've just been playing around a little but have run in to a problem in Firefox.
I've set up a basic form with a name and a button (not submit) and one text field.
All it does right now is open an alert box when the button is clicked. That's fair enough. However, in Firefox, if I have the text field selected and hit enter, it doesn't press the button.
How would I go about making sure the enter key presses the button? I'd like to avoid using onclick and a method in the form if possible. My aim eventually is to post data and return it without a page refresh instead of create an alert box.
Can anyone give me the 101 on optimizing javascript? Basically I've used a lot of javascript and DHTML and wanted to smooth my page out a little more.
I was testing my site, and the smooth sliding motion (THANKS MIKE FOSTER) that I thought was so so smooth was acting rather choppy. Turns out I had a couple other javascript heavy pages opened in another window and then *lightbulb* optimize your .js
So I know some basics about HTML and CSS opptimization, eg Tables=slow, CSS is there for a reason, limit style tags and js in HTML, elim white space etc. but i also read don't fiddle with javascript unless you know what you are doing. Well I don't, so here are a few:
How do browsers cache external js files? several big external js files or many individual js files? What about eliminating white space in .js will this cause problems? Tips on preloading? (i'm doing a site on graphics so I'd rather put up a preloadpage hints?)
any articles or resources? best way to optimize/preload images?
I'm trying to reuse some code in a different context to do a different job.The code to be reused contains hundreds of lines similar to a = new b.c.d(e,f) with different value for e and f.I need to create a new user defined object with the structure b.c.d. I've made numerous attempts along the lines of:
function d (e, f) { this.e = e; this.f = f; }
[code]....
with various permuations of functional declarations.However I get error message "Object expected" or "b.c.d is null or not an object" at the final line of the example.It works with the test line var a = new d("test", "message") but not when I start to build up the expression.How should I define of b.c.d?
How can I play a sound when I click an image, without the information bar popping up at top? I've looked all over, and I've tried a few javascript-only methods but none have worked for me.. Is flash the only way to go?
I need to create some code that is similar to photos.com, istock.com, etc., where when you mouse over and image, a new window opens showing an image larger, and closes when you mouse off the original. All of the code I try either keeps the window open when you mouse off, or is blocked by Firefox's pop-up blocker, which photos.com does not.
Is there a way of simulating a mouseclick in a div from a keypress?
In other words, if I press 2, I want it to simulate me actually having clicked in the div <div id="jplayer_next2"><a href="#">next</div>
Long version (for anyone wondering "WHY?")
Using the jplayer jquery plugin:
For some reason (and after 2 days I've given up trying to find out) I can't seem to directly call the function which is defined right there on the page:
function playListNext() { var index = (playItem+1 < myPlayList.length) ? playItem+1 : 0; if( index > 0 ) { playListChange( index );
have an image that when a user clicks, a textarea should show up at the click. I specify textarea style top and left in javascript. On Firefox this works fine, but in Internet Explorer (IE) the textarea is created right before the image instead of on top of the image. It is like that it just ignored the top and left positions.Also, users can query the database to show all the (mouse clicked) textareas that were created on the image. I coded this using PHP and a bunch of echo's. For some reason, the PHP code works with the CSS styles top and left specified meaning the textareas show up fine on top of the image. But creating a brand new textarea with a mouse click in javascript is not working.Here is the javascript (does not work in IE, works in FF):
function createTextArea(e){ getMouseCoords(e);//sets posy, posx var newDiv= document.createElement("textarea");
this is my first thread here and I am a beginner programmer Java/HTML/CSS only. I used google to add an interactive feature to my website that some people may be familiar with. I wanted to make an image that changes into another image when you mouse over it. Maybe there is a problem with how I integrated it into the rest of my webpage code. I am using angelfire to build my website and am a little disappointed that they don't have their own forum but this one looks really good. Following is my code that can be examined and possibly corrected.
<html> <head> <style type="text/css"> body {background-color:gold;} table { width:70%;
On one of my test sites I have an image that when you mouseover it has an enlarged image with description pop up which floats or aligns downward (default). Does anyone know the code or tag to make it float/align upward?
These images are near the bottom of the page so I want the pop up to pop up into the page and not down below the page line.[URl]..
Im trying to get a mouseover dropdown menu to work when I copy and paste the code all I get is the code where the buttons should be.When it does work I go to preview I get script errors.I am new to this html thing I am using frontpage 2002.This is the code I am trying to use and putting it in the body.
I want to know using Java Sript, how can I get sub buttons when I mouseover a button, for example, in daniweb.com, when I mouseover Web Development button, then it expands and shows PHP, ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, ASP, JSP and so on.. How I can make this type of button like Web Development using Java Script.
Can somebody tell me why my mouseover submit button isn't working? I've looked it oever several times and I don't see anything thats wrong. When I go to mouseover the button, it comes up with the error: "Description Object Expected". Here is the script that pertains to the rollover function: Code:
