How can I create a text input field which has a value displayed by default and when a use clicks in the filed, it disappears? Similar to a "search..." box - when a use goes to search, the "search..." text disappears.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change

I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.
Is there a way with javascript I can make the content inside input text field a link? If yes can anyone direct me to that script?

I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLet�s say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

But for some reason, the first dropdown works fine, but for the second dropdown, the textbox is always there on page load. I'd like the text in the search box to disappear when the box is clicked in. Easy, right? I've found several how-to pieces online, and gotten it to work with at least two different methods. However, I found a rather snotty discussion of form semantics that made me wonder: what's the right way to accomplish this, can I tighten up this code to be clean and tidy, and most importantly, can someone explain it to me so I can understand it? I am new to javascript, and am having an issue, which I'm sure is elementary.. I found a script for expandable content, it suffices fine. As it stands, the script toggles images onclick. For example, whence the menu is collapsed, it displays "plus.gif" next to it, and when the menu is expanded, it displays "minus.gif" next to it.
Basically, what I would like to know is, thus: how would I change it to display text icons next to it? For example, in place of "plus.gif" I should like it to display "+" as actual text. I've dredged a number of places, however, I've found nothing. Furthermore, I cannot figure out how to do it.
I have a Javascript function that allows the display of a textbox upon selecting an option from a dropdown menu. In my case when a user selects listbox as the option, the text box appears. I want the same thing to happen when another option (checkbox) is selected. when I repeat the JAVAscript code, the first textbox(listbox's textbox) appears irrespective of which option(listbox, checkbox) I select. I want to be able to appear/disappear only the respective textbox. Here is my code.

I've been following this tutorial (and it works great)URL...Just cannot figure out how to make one of the Text Fields a Text Area with cols="45" rows="5".Every combination I've tried turns off the validation. I've already added completely different text fields from what are shown in the tutorial so I know how to change up the javascript I just can't get the Text Area right.

I am working on an MLA citation PHP script for books, and I already finished that part. I have the page set up so that the user may add as many authors as needed. However, when I use the back button, I notice that if I have more than one author, the dynamic text fields are gone and all data after the dynamic text fields are not loaded back into the proper fields.I've spent the entire day searching for solutions, and I tried saving the code to a textarea, then using that code to insert it back into the page on loading.
