JQuery :: 'input:text' Selector Not Finding Input Element With No Type Attribute?

Mar 16, 2011

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.

Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?

FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

JQuery :: Selector For Next Non-sibling Input Element?

Oct 8, 2010

I'm working with jQuery on a form where each input element is contained in an <li> element.

Some fields are read-only, identified by a class ".readonly", and I'd like to bind a jQuery function to these fields' "focus" event, to send the focus to the next input whose class is not read-only.

But, because of the containing <li> elements, I don't think .next('input') will work, since the <input> tags aren't siblings.

Is there a simple selector that will do the job without having to climb up and down the DOM via parents and children? To me that feels unsatisfactory and brittle, because should the designer decide to change the layout (lists within lists, <div>'s within <li>'s), my DOM-climbing code might break.

JQuery :: Getting Value Attribute Of Input Element ?

Oct 2, 2010

I have a table with several columns containing input elements populated from a database, e.g.,

On every row, I need to perform a calculation using the value of several input fields. So I tried to access the value of the first input field like so (which had worked in another function):

But for some reason it's returning a 0, and the line below also doesn't work:

But this returns the correct class, so I know it's finding the element:

And if I assign the input element an id, say "count," this works:

Obviously I don't want to fuss with individual id's to get the values. How to understand why the first two examples don't work, and how to fix them?

Missing Name Attribute From Dynamic Input Element

Sep 28, 2006

I'm attempting to submit a form via a function which dynamically creates a
hidden input:

function submitLocation(theForm) {
var e = document.createElement('input');
e.setAttribute('type', 'hidden');
e.setAttribute('name', 'location');
e.setAttribute('value', &#391;');
var f = document.getElementById(theForm);
f.appendChild(e);
document.forms[theForm].submit();
}

The function is called from an anchor's onclick event:

<form name='form1' method='post' action='action.php'>
<a onclick="submitLocation('form1');">Submit</a>
</form>

However the function produces an input which is missing the name element:

<INPUT type=hidden value=1>

The desired output should be:

<INPUT type=hidden name=location value=1>

Total Price To Be In DIV And Not Input Type Text

Dec 5, 2010

Firstly, I got this script which gets values and automatically calculates it and shows result.
Script:
<script type="text/javascript">
function calculate(f){
var prod=Number(f['users'].value);
var quan=Number(f['months'].value);
var tot=prod*quan;
f['total'].value=tot==0?'':tot.toFixed(2);
}
</script>
<ul><li class="bold">Users</li>
<li>
<select name="users" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="users">
<option value='1'>1</option>
<option value='2'>2</option>
</select>
</li></ul>
<ul><li class="bold">Period</li><li>
<select name="months" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="months">
<option value=''>Select Months</option>
<option value='1'>1 Month</option>
<option value='2'>2 Months</option>
</select></li></ul>
Total: <input type="text" name="total" readonly="readonly">

What I'm trying to make is, the total, to be in a div and not input type text
Something like <div id="total"></div>
I don't like because it shows in form, I want it directly. One more thing, is possible to make the default price 0.00 ? and when selecting automatically changes to price..

Pass Combobox Values To Input (type Text)

Feb 9, 2010

I got a couple of comboboxes were the user selects a series of numbers. Once a selection is made, the value is appended to an input box. The idea is that the appended values form a telephone number, or at least part of one, that will then be used to search trough a database to look for a matching number.If I select "021" from indicatif, the script will append 021 to the input "blabla". The problem is, if I now select "022", the input will show "021022" instead of replacing the 021 with 022.

What I would like is that, for each combobox, the script replaces the selected value with the new one instead of simply appending it, like instead of say 021022555666 it would show 021555 or 022666 or 021666 depending on what is selected...you get the idea?Is this doable? Needless to say I'm a total noob at javascript.

JQuery :: Use One Input Text Field To Drive Two Hidden Input Text Fields?

Jul 16, 2011

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.

Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change

<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>

[code].....

I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.
