I am trying to setup a password input that fist shows: "Password". When the user selects it (or focuses on it), it clears and becomes a password input. If the person, clears the password and leaves focus (blurs), the word password appears again.I did some research on this first. There is this article that requires creation of two inputs (hide one, show the other). I also read this article.Without confusing everyone, I am trying to do this simple and in a smart way:HTML BODY
<input type="text" id="password" name="password" class="password" value="Password" />
jQuery Script
$(document).ready(function() {
[code]....

$(this).attr('type', "password");
(this).attr('type') = 'password'
neither of these work, am I doing something wrong?
Full code:
<div id="register-form">
<input type="text" class="reginput" name="username" defaultVal="username / URL" />
<input type="text" class="reginput" name="password" defaultVal="password"/>
<input type="text" class="reginput" name="e-mail" defaultVal="e-mail"/>
<div class="button-form">Create my free account</div>
</div>
$('.reginput').each( function () {
$(this).val($(this).attr('defaultVal'));
$(this).css({color:'#699fe7'});
});
$('.reginput').focus(function(){
if ( $(this).val() == $(this).attr('defaultVal') ){
$(this).val('');
$(this).css({color:'#2d5891'});
$(this).attr('type', "password");
//if ( $(this).attr('name') == 'password') { $(this).attr('type') = 'password' }
}});
$('.reginput').blur(function(){
if ( $(this).val() == '' ){
$(this).val($(this).attr('defaultVal'));

I have the following HTML/CSS:
HTML:
<div id="stealth_form">
<form name="stealthme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='password' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
<div id="search_form">
<form name="searchme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='text' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
CSS:
#search_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: visible;
}
#stealth_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: hidden;
}
OK. I use javascript to dynamically set the visibility of #search_form
to 'hidden' and the visibility of #stealth_form to 'visible'. In
mozilla/firefox there is no visual difference. In IE the #stealth_form
input box is 1 pixel wider, and when the change occurs it catches the
users eye and looks strange.
Any ideas / workarounds? I know this is off topic for this group, but
most on this group know an awful lot about HTML / CSS, and I thought it
was worth a shot.

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

Is it possible to change the input type of a form field. example
<input type="password" name="pw" value="test">
i want to have a "view" button next to that field that when you press and hold it it will chnage that input type to "text" so i can see the password. And when i release the button it will change it back.
I know this sounds like a bad idea and insecure... but its not a big deal.. i have all this stored in an "administrator" panel which an admin must login to get to it. Inside of that i have some admin programs, one of which displays information about the clients. I want to be able to see the clients password when ever i need to reference what it is, but i figured rather then just printing it on the screen all the time this would be a better way.

I'm trying to access a value from an input form. I know this works without the onkeyup event but with it it says the that document.formname.elementid.value is undefined! Its extremely frustrating. As the user types into the input, I am using AJAX to generate some more options which works but I need to be able to access the input type=text value.

Firstly, I got this script which gets values and automatically calculates it and shows result.
Script:
<script type="text/javascript">
function calculate(f){
var prod=Number(f['users'].value);
var quan=Number(f['months'].value);
var tot=prod*quan;
f['total'].value=tot==0?'':tot.toFixed(2);
}
</script>
<ul><li class="bold">Users</li>
<li>
<select name="users" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="users">
<option value='1'>1</option>
<option value='2'>2</option>
</select>
</li></ul>
<ul><li class="bold">Period</li><li>
<select name="months" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="months">
<option value=''>Select Months</option>
<option value='1'>1 Month</option>
<option value='2'>2 Months</option>
</select></li></ul>
Total: <input type="text" name="total" readonly="readonly">
What I'm trying to make is, the total, to be in a div and not input type text
Something like <div id="total"></div>
I don't like because it shows in form, I want it directly. One more thing, is possible to make the default price 0.00 ? and when selecting automatically changes to price..

I got a couple of comboboxes were the user selects a series of numbers. Once a selection is made, the value is appended to an input box. The idea is that the appended values form a telephone number, or at least part of one, that will then be used to search trough a database to look for a matching number.If I select "021" from indicatif, the script will append 021 to the input "blabla". The problem is, if I now select "022", the input will show "021022" instead of replacing the 021 with 022.
What I would like is that, for each combobox, the script replaces the selected value with the new one instead of simply appending it, like instead of say 021022555666 it would show 021555 or 022666 or 021666 depending on what is selected...you get the idea?Is this doable? Needless to say I'm a total noob at javascript.

I realize this script and I do not know where to begin:
1) A simple grid rows / columns.
2) The first column contain an input type = "checkbox"
3) When select the input type, the line should change color than the other rows, and you should open a popup window.
For points 1, 2 you are OK. Point 3 is the difficulty.
