As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text, input:not([type])')

I know that the input "file" type can't be customized very well using css, so I figured I might try to make my own with javascript. The only problem is, I don't know too much about javascript. point me in the right direction on how to make my own custom file upload box in javascript that works the same way as the default one works (so I don't have to edit my PHP coding). Also, heres something I'd like to achieve: [URL]

I was wondering if it is possible to restrict the values of a text input box to only accept set values such as "XBC1". I am trying to make a form for a scanner so you can scan bar codes and it will auto fill the form out and have default values set so incorrect values cant be submitted into the database and mess everything up.

I'm posting this here because I think JavaScript is probably the only way to do it, but if anyone can point me elsewhere, that's fine.
In a bespoke CMS (not a publicly accessible application), I need to let my user upload files that are beyond the server's file upload size for http. I can use PHP to do this via ftp, but to do so I need the full path to the source file, which I could then pass in a hidden field. However, the value of the file input field only returns the filename, not the full path. I understand that this is for security reasons, but is there any way round it?
I've tried jumping through all manner of hoops to try and select the text in the field - which does show the full path of the browsed file - in order to put it in the hidden field, but so far I've failed. And I must do this in FF3 for various reasons.
