I know that the input "file" type can't be customized very well using css, so I figured I might try to make my own with javascript. The only problem is, I don't know too much about javascript. point me in the right direction on how to make my own custom file upload box in javascript that works the same way as the default one works (so I don't have to edit my PHP coding). View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the "Validation" plugin to validate my form. This is a multipart form where a user can upload a file. I would like to validate the choosen file name such that it contains only alphanumeric characters plus defined extensions. For that I tried the combination of the rules "accept" and "alphanumeric" but this does not work because the file name is the full path of the file name and it contains non alphanumeric characters as: C:umyDirectorymyFile.txt
regular expression which could tests that myFile is made only of alphanumeric characters ?
I am using the jquery plugin and want the validation to upload only extension .doc but it does not validates the HTML5 input file when the name has brackets.[code]

I'm posting this here because I think JavaScript is probably the only way to do it, but if anyone can point me elsewhere, that's fine.
In a bespoke CMS (not a publicly accessible application), I need to let my user upload files that are beyond the server's file upload size for http. I can use PHP to do this via ftp, but to do so I need the full path to the source file, which I could then pass in a hidden field. However, the value of the file input field only returns the filename, not the full path. I understand that this is for security reasons, but is there any way round it?
I've tried jumping through all manner of hoops to try and select the text in the field - which does show the full path of the browsed file - in order to put it in the hidden field, but so far I've failed. And I must do this in FF3 for various reasons.
Is is possible to populate a form input of type "file" with javascript?
Here is the code snippet from the form:
Code:
<div>
Media file: <input type="file" name="mediaFile[]" id="mediaFile1" onChange="duplicateEntry(this.value);" />
</div>
[Code]....
keep in mind that these are just code snippets and if this is possible, I'd just like to know how to do it.
I don't find something about this, but perhaps someone have a solution.
Below is my problem :
I overload standard document.write in order to defer some js calls ( like ads ) with a lazyload feature. [code]...
My question is : in my document.write overload, is there anyway to catch the filename of the js script that call the document.write ?
One precision : I've got no possibilities to change distant js files.
I have a webpage where I want the user to input filenames. To make this easier,
I use a file input type so that the user can select files rather than typing in
the filename, using the HTML below.
<input type="file" size="25" maxlength="256" id="filename" onchange="AddFile()"/>
The problem I have is that the javascript function AddFile() is only run under
Internet Explorer, and not under Mozilla. I need the function to run each time a
file is selected as the filenames are added to a text box (the user is creating
a list of files).
Is there some way of having this work under Mozilla?
I'm using the jQuery form validation plugin along with the fileinput plugin which hides the initial input area, but uses <divs> and some styling /javascript to show the file input field.The issue I am having, is that the 'this field is required' text that is meant to show on submission, doesn't come up for the file input field, nor some checkboxes that I have in a table. I am guessing that this is because the code is needing the label to be RIGHT next to the element (in this case the file input or the checkbox) in order for the validation message to show..Are there any work arounds that anyone knows of so that I can get the error message to show?Is there a way to show the error message for required fields when they have a div wrapping them or anything wrapping them?

I am trying to create a javascript where, on clicking a button, I will
be able to download the latest log file. But the log filename changes
everyday as it takes the current date as part of the filename. eg.

Also, the previous day's log file is stored in the same directory.
How can I create a button where it will download the latest log file
at all times?
