Making Search Text Disappear Onclick?

I'd like the text in the search box to disappear when the box is clicked in. Easy, right? I've found several how-to pieces online, and gotten it to work with at least two different methods. However, I found a rather snotty discussion of form semantics that made me wonder: what's the right way to accomplish this, can I tighten up this code to be clean and tidy, and most importantly, can someone explain it to me so I can understand it? Forms tend to leave me confrazzled.

I have a case where the user can select several choices from my 1st <SELECT>
element. The user's choice on the 1st <SELECT> effects what the possible
choices are for the 2nd element. Currently the 2nd element is a <TEXT>
input, but I'd like to be able to make it a <TEXT> element when certain
items are selected from the 1st <SELECT> and a <SELECT> when other choices
are selected. Is there a way to either change an element from <TEXT> to
<SELECT> (and back), or to make a <SELECT> or <TEXT> element disappear
without re-writing the entire page?

I have absolutely no idea what is going on, but IE seems to be making random elements in my code disappear. Take a look at... [URL] and notice the login title and the forgot password link, you will notice that they look fine in firefox but disappear in IE. Does anyone know of any way to fix this mysterious error? I know there a lot of inline styles, they will be moved to the style sheets once all the bugs have been found.

so there might be a simple solution to my problem, but here is my question: I have a box:

I've thought of placing divs with a higher z-index next the main box but this isn't really an option, since it would make the website too large.

I am trying to create a fixed crest at the top of my site that changes depending on where the viewer of the site scrolls to.
I found the following script/plugin on StackOverflow that works well for making one element fade in and fade out.
PART ONE:

I then duplicated part two and changed the variables to make a different div appear in this position depending on where the viewer was in the site but it did not work past the first transition. see the following link to get a better idea what I am trying to achieve.

I'm a beginning JavaScript programmer. What I do is looking for some code on the internet and try to understand to let it fit my needs.What I'm trying to do now is to let the default value of an input disappear onclick. It works fine except the default value of the password input are bullets instead of 'password'. Only when people give their password, it has to be bullets.

I have a nav bar, each link in it activates/triggers a megamenu (each link has its own megamenu). I need a way to have each link activate its own megamenu, the megamenu should close when:
1. The user clicks on another item in the nav bar.
2. The user clicks on the same item in the nav bar.
3. The user clicks on a 'close button' (X) graphic inside the megamenu (not shown in the HTML for simplicity sake).

I want to make a search form where inputs only appear if a certain selection has been made. For example the user selects "Green" then the input "X" appears, and if the user clicks "Black" then input "Y" appears. How can this be done? If so, can someone give me a basic example in code that I can use to copy off?

If you goto this page in IE and scroll down you will notice the text "Power, Safety, Simplicity, etc" Dissapears! This does not happen in Firefox. It could be a javascript issue but Im not really sure.

When a button is clicked, the button then disables (as well as running its normal function).Obviously I'm used to using this.disabled=true but in this instance I cannot access the onClick in the <input> tag because the page is hard coded by a third party application.So I'm trying to make a function which locates the button, notices if it's been clicked and disables it on click. Seems easy to me! However I cannot make it work!Here are the two variations I've tried (both call the function in the page onLoad):

I have a page on which I have 2 dropdowns. Both are similar. I have a piece of code that whill make a textbox appear if we select "list Box" as the option in the drop down. But for some reason, the first dropdown works fine, but for the second dropdown, the textbox is always there on page load. The code that I am presenting can be copied as a HTML page and you will know what I am referring to.

I have a Javascript function that allows the display of a textbox upon selecting an option from a dropdown menu. In my case when a user selects listbox as the option, the text box appears. I want the same thing to happen when another option (checkbox) is selected. when I repeat the JAVAscript code, the first textbox(listbox's textbox) appears irrespective of which option(listbox, checkbox) I select. I want to be able to appear/disappear only the respective textbox. Here is my code.

I am working on an MLA citation PHP script for books, and I already finished that part. I have the page set up so that the user may add as many authors as needed. However, when I use the back button, I notice that if I have more than one author, the dynamic text fields are gone and all data after the dynamic text fields are not loaded back into the proper fields.I've spent the entire day searching for solutions, and I tried saving the code to a textarea, then using that code to insert it back into the page on loading. However, I couldn't get it to work.[code]

Basically i need help with input fields that when clicked the text (value) disappears but if the user has not entered anything in it would revert back to what was originally there.I have managed to get the value inside to disappear once clicked without the use of javascript but would love someone to point me in the right direction of how to revert the original value back if nothing was entered in if the user did click inside as the field continues to be blank.

The javascript below is looking for the word 'margaret thatcher' in the body and surrounding it with a link. It's lower-case but the script is ignoring the case so that won't matter. But, the problem is that because Margaret Thatcher is a proper noun, it will be capitalized in the body text yet replaced with lower-case text. How can I modify this script to look for the word while ignoring the case but use the same text it found as the replacement instead of using the text object?

I am trying to use it to direct users to a search page based on the values of two drop down boxes. The issue i am having is that the code below works fine on a test page, but not on my test domain (with wordpress theme) and so i was wondering whether there is anything I am doing wrong... So, while playing with scrollbars and stuff in HTML5, I'm starting to notice an annoying trend. If I have text near my element that's being dragged (say, a scrub bar for a video, scroll bar, anything a user would click and drag), nearby text will get selected, as if I'm not using a control, just dragging over the page.
