Make Page Wait Until Something Happens On The Server
Jul 23, 2005
I have report that takes about 5-10 seconds to generate depending on the
load. I want to show the user a progress bar while it is being generated and
when it's done, forward the browser to the report.
I'm trying to make a list of tweets fade in and out progressively down the list. I'm pretty new to javascript and jquery, so I might be missing out on some basics.
1. How do I make the while loop infinite and loop around itself, because I'd like the tweets to loop around when it reaches the last tweet. I tried adding the if statement to make it go back to 0 but it hangs my page when I include it. 2. How do I make the loop not run altogether at once? I've tried queue() and putting in delay(4000) right before the .eq(n) so that it delays 4000ms before selecting the next tweet, but I'm trying to find a more elegant solution to it as the timing might be offset infinitely if there are changes in the timings.
var $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(document).ready(function() { var tweet = $j('#twitter-3 .tweets li').length; var n = 0; while (n <= tweet) { $j('#twitter-3 .tweets li').eq(n).delay(500).fadeIn(1000).delay(2000).fadeOut(500); n++; //if (n == tweet) { // n = 0; //}; };});
Trying to figure out how to get my simple page re-load to pause for a couple seconds before sending the request. I tried $.wait() and think this could possibly be what I need but seem to not be using it correctly, as I have not had any success getting it to work.
[Code]...
Is there a specific place to put the $.wait()? or should I be using something different entirely to get the script to pause before sending the request to reload?
I have a site that runs a javascript slideshow automatically when a user visits it. It is designed in such a way that I cannot pre-load individual images for aesthetic reasons. (Also the whole concept makes my brain hurt.) I therefore need 1 of 2 things:
1. A preloader that doesn't show the page or start the slideshow until all the images are loaded. or 2. I could start with the slideshow paused, and when the page is fully loaded, the play command (currently attached to a 'play' button) is 'sent'.
(I'm not techy, so this is the best I can do as explanation.) The latter would probably be more elegant, especially if ultimately I could hide the controls for the slideshow with a loading bar until all the html is loaded, and then show them when the slideshow starts.
I am trying reload a div on a page with content from another page using ajax.I am able to do this but the problem is that I need to wait for the page (that I am sending an ajax request to) to finish inputing all the relevant html before it is shown on the page calling the ajax otherwise the re-load of the div will not be up-to-date.
I'm building a very simple app that relies on a remote server. I will use this app on many websites, so I decided to store it on one server (I have control of the remote server in question).
I need to make sure that this server is up and running, so in the case it's not I can use a fallback.
Would it be a client-side approach? A server-side approach? My guess is to use a js snippet to do the job. If I'm correct, I'll probably use jquery to perfom the task.

I am looking to build a slideshow (basic, with next/previous options, e.g jquery cycle) but I would like it to get the images from a specific folder. So, whenever I want the slideshow updated, I would simply drop the files in a folder and that would do it.
Would this require a php script? If yes, direct me to somewhere to find out more...Or if there are other ways.
I have a select drop down that triggers a change event to update my database. I am new at programming, so hopefully I am overlooking something obvious. My Jquery code actually works as desired to update the database, but when I try to add a overlayed "loading, please wait" message to the user, I can't get it to turn off and the page freezes. debugging the javascript in Firebug, It seems this code returns a 404 status, so it makes sense to me that my overlay will not turn off, but seems strange that the code updates the database as desired. what is wrong with this code? How can I get the overlay to turn off?
I am running on my local pc a local html file. I have this local html file displaying news feeds from various sources. In addition, the local file is pulling images and contect from external domains.
Is there a javascript, or html code that will allow my local html file to check to see if the external domains are active. If they happen to go down, I end up with blotchs on my local html site due to the images or text not appearing.
My goal is for the local html file to check to see if the external domains are alive - (perhaps by looking for a small gif). If the external domain is down, the script of code will redirect my local webpage to an existing html webpage that is stored locally. The existing html webpage will bring up default content.
I'm trying to find a way to have a script communicate with a server without having to load a new page. The idea is to have the server act as a simple wrapper for a database, letting the client do that icky UI stuff.
I tried the obvious, putting a frame somewhere it doesn't insult the eye, changing its location, then accessing the new content via DOM. What I get from IE (6) for my pains is just a rude "permission denied". This even though I entered "localhost" as a trusted site in IE's security setting. What's amiss?
i would like to have a link, such that when the user clicks on it, a script is fired to go to server and check for page updates, if any, it should request a reload, else stay silend (terminate)
i am trying to put some code within my js such that, when the server "sends it a message" it refreshes the page. now i have the refresh part of things. the place where i am stuck is, how can my server (tomcat, am using a java web app) send a very small piece of info to the js which when it receives it, refreshes the page.
I'm incharge of updating the stats on a chl hockey teams Web Site. I would like to know if there is a way (javascript) to be able to save the content of the CHL Statistics WebPage on our Server with Javascript, in a txt file.
If it possible, then I would take the content of that page. Execute another script that will take this information an place it in our database on our server. By doing this, our Team WebSite would be update automaticaly.
At this time, I have to open the CHL Statistics WebPage. Then Save the HTML page as a txt file, upload it on our server via FTP, then execute my script that places it in our database.
Could you send your suggestions to rene.aube@gnb.ca?
is there a way to send data to the server through a form , and then receive the response from the server without reloading a new page? kind of like the LoadVars object in flash?
I have a page that is on a secure server, lets say https://server.com and I have a link on a page /somelink.html. I am trying to use jQuery to change the link to http://server.com/somelink.html
Here is the code I have come up with: $(document).ready(function() { $("a[href^='https://server.com']") .each(function(){ this.href = this.href.replace(/^https://server.com/,"http://www.server.co"); }); $("a[href^='/']") .each(function(){ this.href = this.href.replace(/^//, "http://www.server.co"); }); });
However, my code only seems to work in Firebug after everything has rendered. I assume that the links are changes when the Document is Ready but before the server address is attached to the links.
I am getting following data from the server Collapse: < allstudents> < student> < rollno>8001< /rollno> < name>AAAA< /name> < /student> < student> < rollno>8002< /rollno> < name>BBBB< /name> < /student> < /allstudents>
I have html page containing div with id 'dvtbl' now I want to generate the following table inside of dvtbl Collapse < table> < tr> < td>< input type=" checkbox" name=" cbRoll" value=" 8001" id=" cbRoll8001" /> < /td> < td>AAAA< /td> < /tr> < tr> < td>< input type=" checkbox" name=" cbRoll" value=" 8002" id=" cbRoll8002" /> < /td> < td>BBBB< /td> < /tr> < /table> h How do I do it using jquery? In the callback function of $.ajax?
I have an webbpage, and in the middle of it there is an iframe to a php site. So i have used this code, so after some seconds the iframe will send the guest to another page. <meta http-equiv="refresh" traget="_top" content="5 url=http://mypage.com"/> But the thing is that i want the WHOLE page to reload, and go to that page after 5 seconds (we can say). With that code, only the iframe are going to another page. Is it possible to make the whole page send the user after some seconds, to another page and not only the iframe?
I have the following JavaScript (see below). The script requests an XML file from the server and displays it on the page.
The script works fine when the requested XML file is stored on the same server as the script.
The problem is when I try requesting an XML file from an external server such as the National Weather Service. I get an error. If I take the XML file from the National Weather Service and save it to my server it works. Why can't I use my script to request XML files stored on external servers?
Javascript Code
window.onload = initAll; var xhr = false; function initAll() { document.getElementById("makeTextRequest").onclick = getNewFile;
I'm trying to write a script that will be loaded from one server into a website on another server. This script is trying to talk (ajax) to the server that it comes from but I'm getting "Access Denied" errors. I'm well aware that cross-domain calls are not allowed for security reasons so my question is how does Google Analytics work because essentially thats what I'm trying to accomplish. I can embed a Google Analytics script into my website and it'll gather data and send it back to Google.
i want to make a iframe page that loading a page from other site. I have try "jQuery iFrame Sizing" to set auto height in iframe... but it is failed.
This is my code : ------------- on Head <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/iframe.js"></script> on Body
Wantto import data from excel to SQL server from a web page, but wonder whether it is possible to do it without uploading the excel file from client's machine to server first.
