Saving Content Of Html Page In Another Server
Jul 20, 2005
I'm incharge of updating the stats on a chl hockey teams Web Site. I
would like to know if there is a way (javascript) to be able to save
the content of the CHL Statistics WebPage on our Server with
Javascript, in a txt file.
If it possible, then I would take the content of that page. Execute
another script that will take this information an place it in our
database on our server. By doing this, our Team WebSite would be
update automaticaly.
At this time, I have to open the CHL Statistics WebPage. Then Save the
HTML page as a txt file, upload it on our server via FTP, then execute
my script that places it in our database.
Could you send your suggestions to rene.aube@gnb.ca?

I am creating an XML document on my page with javascript. My question
is, is it possible to save that xml file on the server (I have write
permissions) only using javascript, ie no server code? This task would
be trivial using server code, but I was wondering if I can do it all
with client code and post backs? Well, any input?

I have trying to save an update the xml file which is there in same folder in which HTML page is there. In HTMl page i have written javascript code to Save and Update XML on server. The code is like this
function Save()

var xmlDoc= new ActiveXObject("MSXML.DOMDocument")
xmlDoc.async="false"
[Code].....
When i am accessing HTMl page on server from client and this function is called error 'Parameter is incorrect' is showing on line
xmlDoc.save ("/show/Share%20Workspace/Nidhi/Share%20%Document/Account.xml")
Note: xmlDoc.load("/show/Share%20Workspace/Nidhi/Share%20%Document/Account.xml") is working fine.
The save is working fine in local but not when on server and request from client.

I would like to open an html file locally (not fetch it from a server) and somehow use javascript to fetch the relative resources from the server. One solution would be to convert all of the relative links to absolute links. I can convert the html source file anyway I wish, but ideally I would like to modify the html source as little as possible, for example insert a function that modifies the result of the src attribute. How would I go about this? Is there any trick I can use to define where the relative home is? Am I going to get into any scripting security gotchas?

I am facing a certain problem when I try to add a content to a page dynamically and then save the page. I add a content dynamically to the page on a mouse click and then after the content appears in the screen, I try to save the HTML file from the browser. When I open the saved HTML file, I am not able to see the dynamically added text. This happens only in IE.
This is the code that I use.
"document.body.insertAdjacentHTML("beforeEnd", "<div id='idCanvas'> Sample Text </div>");"
This code successfully adds the new text to the page. But, when I try to save the page from "File -> Save As" and then open the saved file, I am not able to view that text. I need to get that text in the saved document as well.
I also tried using:

I'm wracking my brain on this one.
After a html document loads in a browser,I want to be able to monitor
the page incase any content on it changes for any reason.
Is there a Javascript function with which I can track 'what has
changed' on the webpage .
This should be irrespective of the type of content on the html page
I have two example for you to ponder on:
Ex1:
-----
Say in an html document there are two select boxes s1 and s2.
The items list in s2 depends on selctions in s1 (page is not
refreshed..ie.. s2 is loaded through Ajax or sumthing)
So after the html page loads I need to get a notification whenever s2
is populated...
Ex2:
-------
Say ,in a html page,there's a link,Onclicking which a light pop-up
div is created with some text.
How can I capture the content of this dynamic pop-up?
In all this discussion,I'm not taking into account any particular
format of html...the html content can be anything.......I just need
to keep tracking if any content chages after the page loads...
Ideally I need to achieve this using javascript (client side
scripting)
How can I achieve this??

I'm using an HTML page with one section having editable content. Nothing overly complicated. All other execCommands are working fine, but I cannot get Paste to work. The function is called from this button:
And, here's the Javascript function:
When I use the Copy or Cut buttons the selected text is loaded into the clipboard. If I press Ctrl+V to paste, it works fine. But clicking the Paste button either has no visible effect (if no text is selected) or just deletes any selected text. I've used the Paste command before from VB without any problem, but it's been awhile since I've used JS.

I have about 10 JQuery Books and they all talk about using Ajax(JQuery Load function) to insert either an HTML page or fragments of an HTML page into another page.
However, amazingly none of these books mentioned getting multiple items using the same function(document.ready).
Here is what I mean. I have a document.ready function which I use to get specific content from a page. However, to get additional items, I need to set up additional document.ready function.
So if I was retrieving 3 sets of content from a page, I will set up my script like this:
Code:
And the HTML
Code:
Is there a leaner better way to do this? Again all the books tells you how to grab a content, which I have done but do I have to create a new function for each item?

I'm new to js/jquery and this forum so please forgive my potentially off-scope js/jquery remarks. I've been running a lot of toggles to show, hide, etc... divs and other HTML elements. It's making my application incredibly nice navigation wise.
Now to put myself in my users shoes. Say one user toggles on and off the things they want and don't want until they are satisfied with all the content of the screen. (That is by the way the nature of my application. A user loads in various variables via PHP and other means and when satisfied, a PDF is generated for them containing all their preferred content.)
Because: When a user is at a point where all the content they are viewing is worthy of a PDF, it is also worth saving that HTML 'view' (classes switched, variable adjusted, etc...). I would call it 'Save this workspace' or something along those lines.
I don't have a direct question per se but am more interested in the views of others who have similar thoughts and moreover, what relationship has jQuery had in helping employing some method?

I have an ajax based page, which loads content from external page (html +js) So if i have a div "update_div" being updated with external content (html+js)
Let me be more specifig
Step1: Ajax content along with js loaded into update_div from a.html
Step2: Ajax content along with js loaded into update_div from b.html
What happens to the js loaded from a.html? Is it lurking in the memory or automatically/magically removed from the browser memory? I am afraid of memory leaks, if the js is still lurking in memory, the more ajax calls made, the more js is going to be held up in memory. Unless am totally wrong; i have no idea of the mechanism happening.

settings on the html page that allow the user to specify how the file
is viewed. I'm just wnodering what are my options in saving these
settings (so they could be reloaded next time the user loads the page).
Writing to registry, a file, or a cookie? what's the right approach?

I am currently working on a page that has a series of <div> tags that .show and .hide whencorrespondinglinks are clicked, the first <div> is visible when you load the page. When you leave the page and return to it, the page reloads and the the first <div> is visible. Is there any way for the browser to save the current <div> that is visible to stay visible when you return to the page?example of what I am trying to accomplish:I load a page and click on the third link to show the third <div> and then after leaving and returning to the page (by clicking the browsers back button) the third <div> is still visible, rather than returning to the original state of the page where the first <div> is visible.

I have a webpage which handle a time-consuming backend processing on the server side. I am hoping to use ajax and display the back-end processing process on the web-front(i.e. in a DIV). .ajaxStart and .ajaxStop sound to be OK if I want to display some fixed content. Is it possible that I grab partial server-side resultset and update a DIV at the front-end without having to wait for the server-side to finish all of the processing.
Below is my sample code which does NOT work for my purpose.
----
<span id="processing_status" class="blink"></span>
<div id="processing_log" style="display:none"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
/* This is OK, but I want to display server-side processing records */

I'm writing a program on Zimki, which I think uses SpiderMonkey as a server side Javascript engine.
My idea is to have an html file that someone else created, and look inside for cells in a table that have special known names, like name, description, etc. Then I want to figure out the <tr<tr/pair that encloses all of those special tags, and use that as a template to generate a bigger table from another datasource.
So, I'm wondering how I actually open a file and then parse it as html so I can poke around the DOM, all from the server side without involving a browser client.

I want to load some pages generated with the server (ASP) and assign
their html results to JavaScript, so users could click the links and
the content of any selected page would show up immediately, making no
requests.
So, I have one main page called mainpage.asp which, I think, should
get all subpages with content, names are subpage1.asp, subpage2.asp,
etc. I tried ASP's XMLHttpRequest to get content of all sub pages and
assign html result to JavaScript variables. But I realized that MS
XMLHttpRequest does not get session protected pages. I mean that if my
subpage will generate output with session only, then even if the
session exists, MS XMLHttpRequest does not see it.
Anyway, this trick did not work. If I include these subpages in
mainpage.asp under a hidden field, this may be a solution but I do not
see it good enough yet.
What would you recommend? How would you assign subpage's html code to
JavaScript variables or array of variables?
