JS To Accept Only A Particular String To Start With An Alphabet Or Number Only?
Jun 4, 2009
I have a JS function which checks whether the directory field value entered starts with an alphabet or number only. Following is the code using regular expression.
function testpw() {
var un = document.getElementById("dir").value;
if (/^[^A-Za-z0-9]/.test(un)) { // only a-z0-9 allowed as first character
[code]......
method which only accepts "/ktp/knas/" as the starting value and anything after that. ie it should accept /ktp/knas/*, rest everything is not accepted.

I need to restrict a range of values to a textbox. I have already the minimum and maximum value allowed in the textbox, but is missing me intermediate values.
An example: From the minimum value -2,00 to maximum value 0,00 it accepts: -2,00 | -1,75 | -1,50 | -1,25 | -1,00 | -0,75 | -0,5 | -0,25 | 0,00 From the minimum value 0,00 to maximum value 1,00 it accepts: 0,00 | 0,25 | 0,50 | 0,75 | 1,00

I have been presented with: Draw a flowchart and write a javascript program which will accept two numbers from a user and will determine whether the second number is a factor of the first. This is determined by dividing the first number by the second and checking if the remainder is 0. This is made easier if you find out what the operator does. The output should be in the form 4 is not a factor of 6 and 3 is a factor of 6. I have tried a few attemps and yet still not sure what the problem is :confused:
[Code]....

I have a requirement to generate a report (tabular view) which displays number of days by Month from Start Date to End Date. Also, total number of days that fall in the range in the corresponding year.
I am looking for a Javascript function as a solution to the above requirement but could not find one.
For example,
Start Date: 02/15/2007
End Date: 08/22/2010
Report should be as displayed in the attached text file.

When I used toFixed() method on a number, I thought that this method round a number to a specified approximation, but I got a surprising result, the number became string! 15.23689.toFixed(2) ==> "15.24". So does it convert the number into string?

I have to do something that looks an easy task, but I can't do it.I have a page with a div and an id= "livetimings" assigned to it, I want to show a table inside that div and update it every 20 seconds.I have a php script which prints the table and it works, I've tried that script by itself, now I'm trying to call it through an AJAX call in this way [code]inside the <body> tag I've put a setInterval() which starts the getTempi() every 20 seconds and it also works.The not working part is that nothing appears inside the div.I've put some alerts inside the JS code all of them before the req.open pop up, then nothing, so I think the problem is there, but I don't get it.script.php is in the same folder of the html page.The php script has an echo at the end which prints the html code for the table.

I wanted to only match in the middle of a string
I have a string = " sdfasf 23234"
I wanted to get the numbers like /([0-9]*)/
But this fails and returns nothing because the string begins with letters. Instead I had to do /[a-zA-Z ]*([0-9]*)/
If that's the case then, why do we bother with something like
/^[a-zA-Z]*([0-9]*)$/
The pattern is already assumed to start at the beginning of the string

I need to use javascript's graphics API to draw the letters of
the alphabet. If necessary, I can map out all 26 letters myself
and use drawline() to draw them, but I am hoping someone out
there might have a better suggestion. The user will click a spot
on the canvas, and the script will draw one of the letters at
that spot.

Is there way to only match on strings starting with the first characters input?For instance, if I have a list as such:[ 'Tamara','Amy']when I start to type 'Am', I only want to see "Amy" in the drop down list, not "Tamara".I feel like this should be an easy configuration option or easy mod, but alas, I could not find it.

Now I need to convert a number(decimal) into a hex.string. I want to pass my blurit() two colors and have it start at color one and step its way to color two based on a determined step. I need to convert the new color to a hex string to be used to control the color of text. This is a rough example of what I am doing:
function blurit(color1, color2) {
colorstep= (color2-color1) /10; clr=color;
for (lp=0; lp<10; lp++) {
test.innerHTML+= '<font color="#' +dex(clr) +'">'
clr+= colorstep;
}}

I'm trying to write code to swap images in a list. It's going to be a star rating control that highlights stars as you hover over a star. each image in the list has an onmouseover="highlight(this)" function and a unique id of 1 - 10.
Code:
function highlight(star) {
var num = Number(star.id);
for (i = 0; i < num; i++)
[Code].....
I'm trying to convert the number 'i' used by the for loop to a string so it can be used by the getElementById() method to select the stars to be highlighted. But my intellisense is telling me there is a problem with that line. I tried
var id = String(i+1);
but this didn't work either.
what have I gotten wrong?

How can I check if a number exists by itself in this string by using
the RegExp object?
var mystring = "11,111,01,011";
var match = "1";
var re = new RegExp( match );
var isFound = re.test( mystring ) );
Running this code returns 'true' which is not what I want since number
one doesn't exist by itself. I need to use the "match" variable since
it will change depending on user input.
I can only get it to work without variables in the expression. E.g.
var re = new RegExp( /1/ );

Javascript variables are loosely typed: the conversion between a
string and a number happens automatically. Since plus (+) is also
used as in string concatenation, `` Ƈ' + 1 '' is equal to `` ཇ' '': the
String deciding what + does. To overcome this, first convert the
string to a number. For example:

I'm looking for a way to grab a number from a string, although this number
is not at either end of the string.
Here is the string in question: var el = "v4Function_Name('argument3')"
Here is a substring that returns the number ( the 3 ) successfully...
var number = el.substring(el.lastIndexOf("ent")+3,el.length-2);
Seems very ineffecient to do it this way, and better to find a lean elegant
way using replace(); How does one go about getting a value inside of a
string with regular expressions? .. or is there a better way?
Here are a couple of the many expressions I have failed with...
var pat = /^[^ent][0-9]*$"/;
var pat = /v4Function_Name('argument([^0-9]+)'/;
var number = el.replace(pat,"");
