JQuery :: Get Ajax Error Messages From Server Till It Is Implemented In Remote Method
Jun 14, 2009
I wanted to ask how it is possible to get error messages from the server till it is implemented in the remote method.What do you think is the less work intensive alternative.I also wanted to ask if i have two fields A and B, and the values of B depends on A. How do i make it with the plugin and the remote method ?I saw that there is a way of writing custom methods:URL...But how do i combine it with the ajax calls?

In the new version of jquery.validate (1.5.3) there is an option to get a remote error message from the server for invalid elements. I did not find what should be the exact response from the server for producing such an error message. From the documentation: "The response is evaluated as JSON and must be true for valid elements, and can be any false, undefined or null for invalid elements, using the default message; or a string, eg. "That name is already taken, try peter123 instead" to display as the error message." But if i return a string, isn't it evaluated as true ?

I am new to ajax, meaning I know nothing what so ever of programing ajax. I want to do a simple login interface with email and password (with php), but i also want that when I press submit button it show a box with "please wait..." message (this box must slide, from the top of the page). Also this box will display errors messages such as, "invalid email or password" and so on.

I have an inline datepicker on my page...I need two things:
1.) I've implemented the onSelect method, but what I really want to do is do a non-modal popup for the user to see what calendar events from the database that are on the date selected. I've worked out all the database and json parts, but now I need to make the popup near the calendar. I'm surprised that there isn't any mouse coordinates passed to the onSelect function. Anyone ever attempted something like this?
What I'm looking for is something similar to this: [url]
2.) Also from the link above, you see how they have a star on the dates that have events associated with that date? How can we modify the date so that there is some way to distinguish days that have events associated with them versus ones that don't.

I want to send three text box values to server using jquery ajax. problem is that, i dont know the exact syntax to send three data. When i try sending one data(also change no.of parameters to one at server side method), its going good but when i try to send three text box values, its giving jquery error:"Internal server error". I think I am not sending data in correct way. Example below contains only two sending data, because i was trying to send 2 data first.
Below is the code:
function testCAll() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "dbTest1.aspx/SendMessage",

I've noticed this weird behaviour of jQuery in Safari and Chrome (didn't test on Firefox as I'm using some webkit CSS extensions). After setting up the call like this:
$.ajax( {
'url' : url,
'dataType' : 'json',
data : reqdata,
cache: false,
method: 'get',
timeout: 20000, //10 secs of timeout
success : function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { .....
If a timeout occurs (I switch the local webserver off), the 'success' method will be called! More than this in the textStatus parameter there is a string with "success" !!! The error handler doesn't even get called.... (As you may notice the only way I had to tell the problem, was to check the data param if it is null or 0 length. How can I avoid this?

I am using jquery.ajax() to make a POST call to web server which returns HTTP 201 response for successful creation of object at server. Since 201 is a success I expect the success function specified with jquery.ajax to execute but instead it executes the error function specified with jquery.ajax. Here is how I am using jquery.ajax call.

I'm using this plugin in its simplest form.. [URL] All I have is this for my code:
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#form").validate();
});
</script>
It works fine, but I'm trying to hide the error messages which it defaults to "This field is required." The error message shows up in a label.. How in the world do I hide those error messages within those labels?

I'm playing with the great Bassistance jQuery Validator and am stuck at a point The idea is simple: I have lot of this markup (I semplify, but the idea is that after each <input> there could be something else, i.e. a word, an icon, etc... that is "inline" with the corresponding<input>):
<ol>
<li><input type="text" id="width" size="3"></input> px</li>
<li><input type="text" id="height" size="3"></input> px</li>
<li><input type="text" id="thumb" size="3"></input> px</li>
</ol>

I'm making this ajax call:
Code:
url = "/GeoAdaptaApp/geoLogger/logGuiEvents?json="+aLotOfJSONStuff;
encUrl = encodeURI(url,"UTF-8");
new Ajax.Request(encUrl, {
method: 'get',
onSuccess: this.sendQueueToServerSuccess( this,logConsole ),
[Code]...
The JSON string seems correct (I checked it with a validator) and it worked on an Ajax.updater (but i need a request now). Firefox keeps telling me:
[Code]...
The call always end up in the onFailure block. Full request here: [URL] It's very strange, Is there a better way to pass json objects to the server?

I'm trying to write a custom display for the error messages on my form. Ideally I'd like to use a modal pop-up window to display the errors, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to prevent the validation plugin from automatically displaying the errors on my page AND I can't quite figure out how to access the individual error messages for the elements on my form. What I want to do is to allow users to save invalid forms, but to warn them that they are invalid to make them confirm that they want to save. [code]...

I'm using the form validation and it's working great. But the form reset button, although it clears the form fields, does not clear the errors. My page header has this code so far:
[Code]....
I'm trying to understand how to implement the following in order for the reset button to do that:
var validator = $("#myform").validate();
validator.resetForm();
I'm not an experienced JS person but have a lot of other programming experience (vb, vba, mssql, delphi).

I'm using this great plugin, but the prob for me is that all error messages have the same class added to them. due to the layout of my form, i need to be able to move some of the error messages around in diff ways. there is a way to add a diff error class to elements based on their id or class or whatever, but not sure how to do so.

I have a login panel on my website that is implemented as an overlay div. So if the user clicks on a link that requires authorization, this div is made visible with javascript. In the login panel there is a form consisting of a field for the user name, the password and a submit button. What I want to do is when the user entered his name/password and clicked on submit I want to do an asynchronous request and check whether the password was correct.
My question now is: What is the best way to do this check? Intuitively I would create a response xml file where I store a variable like <correctPassword>1</correctPassword> and check whether this variable is 1 (true) or 0 (false) and react accordingly.
Is that the way to go or is there a better approach to achieve this?

I'm using the jQuery form validation plugin along with the fileinput plugin which hides the initial input area, but uses <divs> and some styling /javascript to show the file input field.The issue I am having, is that the 'this field is required' text that is meant to show on submission, doesn't come up for the file input field, nor some checkboxes that I have in a table. I am guessing that this is because the code is needing the label to be RIGHT next to the element (in this case the file input or the checkbox) in order for the validation message to show..Are there any work arounds that anyone knows of so that I can get the error message to show?Is there a way to show the error message for required fields when they have a div wrapping them or anything wrapping them?
