JQuery :: Ajax Executes Error Function For Web Server HTTP 201 Response
Jul 20, 2009
I am using jquery.ajax() to make a POST call to web server which returns HTTP 201 response for successful creation of object at server. Since 201 is a success I expect the success function specified with jquery.ajax to execute but instead it executes the error function specified with jquery.ajax. Here is how I am using jquery.ajax call.

I use AJAX functionality in my project & my coding something similar to the following:
$('.home').click(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
$.ajax({
url: 'home.html',
[Code]....
Initially I (successfully) tested my project after deploying to the Apache server which is running in the localhost.
But, if I just open the page in a browser (without deploying to the server), the project works fine! How this is possible?
According to my understanding, if we send an AJAX request, which is really an HTTP request, which has to be received by an HTTP server and the response should come from the server.

I have an application running on a non-interactive kiosk that I need to keep updated with information that will be provided by a remote server. To do this, I've created an XMLHttpRequest/Microsoft.XMLHTTP object that checks the modified date in the header of a watched file that resides on a remote server.
This function runs on an interval, and if it detects a change in the modified date since the last check, it retrieves new information from the remote server.

I am running the scripts below which should return a string containing a URL. So far, it cannot find the form contents in Firefox, but displays the non-dynamic data such as ?Location=. It won't work at all in IE.

A couple of months ago I posted a question in these forums pertaining to some trouble I've been having with a webpage utilizing Javascript and PHP to implement AJAX.
Quote: I'm having two Ajax-related problems on a page I am working on at the moment. (Can't include the link since I'm a new Dev Shed member)
On this page, I have two buttons that use Ajax to fetch two separate forms and put them into a chosen div; that part works like a charm.
On said forms, there is a div that is meant to display any necessary error messages when the submit button is clicked. However, on the first time the page is visited and the form is chosen, the div won't display the error message. Only after refreshing the page/choosing the form a second time will the message show. I've been checking the response from the server via Firebug and the response is correct, it just seems like the page isn't updating correctly.
Secondly, once I refresh or choose the form again and the error message begins to show, if I enter values into the form fields and should be getting a different error message, it never updates. Once again, the server response is correct, but for some reason the page just isn't updating to reflect the new message.
I have been using the date field on the New Event form for testing; if you have Firebug, you should be able to see that I am getting the desired response from the server (look in the allErr div), but the HTML isn't changing with it. I have tried both using my own Ajax functions and using jQuery's Ajax implementation, but both give me the same problems. What am I doing wrong?

The goal is to change the source on the fly (as with a firefox extension webdev or another or even Greasemonkey) to add a link. Until then, easy does it work well. This link launches an application ajax jquery like:
$.get(...) or even $.ajax(...)
If I'm on [URL], added my link, I click and it works, I see the ajax request and pass my "alert ()" gives me the return of application. Great! But if I'm on a site other than mine (the url of the ajax request is [URL] while I'm at [URL] for example), the return of the ajax request is empty.

I have Javascript code that looks like this:
var data1;
$.post('save_search.php', formData, function(data) {
data1 = data;
});
jsonData = eval('(' + data1 + ')');
if (jsonData.return_status.search("successful") > -1)
$('#msg_div').html("<font color=red>Search was saved</font>");
else
$('#msg_div').html("<font color=red>Search was not saved. Try saving again.</font>");
"data1" comes up as undefined in the statement
jsonData = eval('(' + data1 + ')');
Even though "data" is a perfectly correct JSON string *inside* the callback function! I can put the eval statement inside the callback function and it will form a good JSON object, like this:
jsonData = eval('(' + data + ')');
I'm simply trying to get my Ajax response data to the outside of my callback function so I can use it in other Javascript code. I've never seen an ordinary function behave this way.

I wanted to ask how it is possible to get error messages from the server till it is implemented in the remote method.What do you think is the less work intensive alternative.I also wanted to ask if i have two fields A and B, and the values of B depends on A. How do i make it with the plugin and the remote method ?I saw that there is a way of writing custom methods:URL...But how do i combine it with the ajax calls?

Is it possible to take a url from a text box and request the HTTP Response Header and then document.write() it? I'm envisaging a form into which a user can enter a url and receive the Response Header information. Could I achieve this with JavaScript?

I have javascript that sets global variables to true. Here is the code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var count=0;
var castforfood=false;
var sc2mx=false;
var ozrak=false;
var chavodelocho=false;
var jimrising=false;
var day9tv=false;
function justinlive(arg){
if(arg != null){
if(count==2){
ozrak=true;
}
else if(count==5){
day9tv=true;
}}
count++;
}
function livestatus(arg){
if (arg.channel.isLive == true){ .....
The calls to set_status and livestatus work just fine. The problem is calling "justinlive". It only works correctly the first time. The second time, the function does not execute at all. (I tried inserting an "alert ("Hello"); at the beginning of the function, so I know it only gets executed once.)

I'm making this ajax call:
Code:
url = "/GeoAdaptaApp/geoLogger/logGuiEvents?json="+aLotOfJSONStuff;
encUrl = encodeURI(url,"UTF-8");
new Ajax.Request(encUrl, {
method: 'get',
onSuccess: this.sendQueueToServerSuccess( this,logConsole ),
[Code]...
The JSON string seems correct (I checked it with a validator) and it worked on an Ajax.updater (but i need a request now). Firefox keeps telling me:
[Code]...
The call always end up in the onFailure block. Full request here: [URL] It's very strange, Is there a better way to pass json objects to the server?

Ref. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834489/en-us
Now that http://username:password@site.com no longer is an accepted
syntax in IE, I suddenly have a case in a project I'm working on. The easiest(?)
solution would now be that there was some Javascript function that
could pass the username and password or in som other way automate the login
process on a given site.
Thing is I have a server-generated HTML page that I want to make the
client redirect to a password protected site. (IIS Windows authentication).
Before: location.href='http://name:pwd@site.com'
Now: ?

I have designed a form as below
<form action="https://checkout.google.com/api/checkout/v2/checkoutForm/Merchant/XXXXXXXXXXXX" id="BB_BuyButtonForm" method="post" name="BB_BuyButtonForm" target="_top" >
<input name="item_name_1" type="hidden" value="Test Product"/>
<input name="item_description_1" type="hidden" value="Test Product of my cart"/>
[Code].....
On hitting the button one new window is getting opened with response URL from 3rd party(in this case Google Checkout). But for me i need to open this in a inline-popup (lightBox, ColorBox etc...) rather than new window. In the form definition, i have replaced mymerchant_idwith 'XXXXXXXXXX' for privacy purpose

I am trying integrate an upload system from YouSendIt.com in to my companies forms. The code they give for integration is basically an iframe with a coded URL set for the source. Their server sends a postback using HTTP Post method but I am not sure how to access the data that is sent back. I do not need to display it but I need to use it for validation purposes in the rest of my form. The Iframe code is as such:
<iframe style="margin-left:20px;background-color:#ffffff;overflow-x:hidden;display:block" id="file_upload_iframe" name="file_upload_iframe" src="https://www.yousendit.com/v1/ibox.php?sitebox=1011503&sh=adeace4e28613bc36fb1fa3c6ef766ee&send_notification=false&custom_postback=true" width="600" height="250" marginwidth="0" align="middle" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>

I have written an Ajax application which can send http HEAD requests
and receive the header response from server.
Now I want to show the different values in formatted manner. However,
there seems be no character or expression which I can use to split the
HEAD response for string processing.
Here is a sample of server response:
Mime-Version: 1.0 Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2007 03:51:13 GMT Server: Apache/
2.0.1a Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 69
Connection: close
If you have any information regarding this please do let me know.

protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output)

output.Write(@"<table><tr><td>");

How can I make the button call the click event so that the server side method btnExecute_Click() can be called? Also, this button calls a javascript function before server side even.

I'm currently rewriting all my ajax calls to use the jquery method (much cleaner code! ) and have declared a default ajaxError function, shown below:
$(document).ajaxError(function(event, request, settings){
alert("There was an error while communicating with the server. URL: " + settings.url);
});
However, now I have a few ajax calls where I want to declare an error function in the ajax call. I was hoping that by declaring an error function in the ajax call, it would replace the default error call I have defined. But that does not appear to be the case, as I continue to first get my ajax function error call, then I also see the above code execute.
I tried calling event.stopImmediatePropagation() from within my ajax error function hoping that it would stop further events firing (ie: the default error event) but that didn't do anything except tell me in firefox that "event" was undefined.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to go through and define an error function to EVERY ajax call.

I have been successfully using the following "myAjax" function to load text file information from the server.
ajax.js:
After I load the text file, I store the text "records" into an array by doing something like this:
Where the '}' character is my record delimiter. It could just as easily be ' ' or ' ' or the like.
Again, I am not having any problems doing it this way as it suits my current needs.
Now the question(s)
1. Does the call to read the text data from the external file always read in the entire contents or can I read one line or delimited record at a time and store it to the array directly without the text storage?
2. If the text is always read completely (my suspicion), can I safely delete the "TextInformation" after I convert to the array format? Is there any memory penalty for doing it this way as the text information can be somewhat lengthly and I don't like the idea of having doubled memory usage when I only need the information in array format anyway?
This is the idea I am considering, but I don't know if there are drawback to this method of if there is a better way to accomplish the task.
ajax.js:
