Is it possible to take a url from a text box and request the HTTP Response Header and then document.write() it? I'm envisaging a form into which a user can enter a url and receive the Response Header information. Could I achieve this with JavaScript?

Add An Extra HTTP Header In It?

Jul 22, 2009

If I was to add my own custom header into an AJAX call, then would that break browser compatibility/security? code...

Since the header is custom, and doesn't exist in any specification whatsoever, then would this still be valid?

Are Headers that are prefixed with a "X-" considered custom? Like X-Forwarded-For, X-Mailer?

Add A Data As An Http Header Field?

May 12, 2010

I am using jquery's ajax method to POST data to a server. I am using the servers API, and it is stated that in whatever request, I have to include this "authentication token" to access the data I need, either as an http header field or a header parameter.

I prefer to add it as an http header, but I don't know how to add it.

Here's a part of my code. I wish to add a field for a token.

Can I Minimize The Request Header?

Mar 5, 2007

I'm writing a web server and an Ajax-y web UI for an embedded system. My server is just plain dumb and quite resource constrained and right now I have code in the server to skip over all the POST header fields. I'd rather not use bandwidth to send them and CPU to skip them. Can I minimize my request header? I was looking to do something like:

req = new xHttpRequest();
for (f in req.header) {
if (f != "Content-Type:') {
req.header[f] = null;
}}

But I haven't found a reliable way to get the header fields. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough. Pointers...?

Then when the user clicks a link the visible div is loaded with the content from one of them. Is this the best way? or should i be loading the content from another script via $.get()?

i use the same thing on my PM system which loads 10 hidden divs. So should i really be using $.get() for this aswell?

HTTPS Web Service Request From HTTP Page?

Feb 2, 2010

I am writing JavaScript code that runs inside HTTP page, I need to make XMLHttpRequest to a REST web service. The service is running on the same site but it only accepts HTTPS. I tried to prefix the URL with https:// and Firefox rejected it as cross-site scripting attempt. It's not really cross site as I am calling the same site.

I don't have an option to redirect the entire page to https.

Is there a proper way to implement this request?

Check For Dead Links - HTTP Request

Oct 25, 2011

I've come back to working on something I built a while ago. Just a small function that I started that displays links by searching through a text area and grabbing all a hrefs. I want to try and build on it to check for dead links. This is the report code:
Code:
function report(){
document.getElementById("htmlDiv").innerHTML = document.getElementById("htmlArea").value;
a = document.getElementById("htmlDiv").getElementsByTagName("a");
for(i=0; i < a.length; i++){
//window.open(a[i].href)//the ( and ) characters signify that window.open is a function;
if(i == 0){
document.getElementById("report").innerHTML = "<li><a href="" + a[i].href + "" />" + a[i].href + "</a></li>";
document.getElementById("report").style.display = "block";
} else {
document.getElementById("report").innerHTML += "<li><a href="" + a[i].href + "" />" + a[i].href + "</a></li>";
}}
document.getElementById("reportNumber").innerHTML = "Total: " + i;
}

I was thinking maybe I could encorporate the following into this maybe?
Code:
function UrlExists(url) {
var http = new XMLHttpRequest();
http.open('HEAD', url, false);
http.send();
return http.status!=404;
}
The above makes sense to me as I think it is saying as long as its not 404 its ok. I want to incorporate something like that so my report displays links and maybe strikes them through if they return 404 or are dead.

Parsing Http Head Request Resposnse From Server.

Feb 8, 2007

I have written an Ajax application which can send http HEAD requests
and receive the header response from server.

Now I want to show the different values in formatted manner. However,
there seems be no character or expression which I can use to split the
HEAD response for string processing.

Here is a sample of server response:

Mime-Version: 1.0 Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2007 03:51:13 GMT Server: Apache/
2.0.1a Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 69
Connection: close

AJAX :: What Is COMET - Open A Long-lived HTTP Request ?

Nov 15, 2011

I've been reading a lot about Comet and I've been interested in implementing it. It doesn't sound that difficult, but I have yet to find concrete examples of what it is, so I don't know how to actually use it.

I've seen some examples where new ajax requests are made as soon as old ones are complet but this doesn't make any sense to me. It seems this method is a complete resource bandit.

For example, how do I open a long-lived HTTP request? If the request is long-lived, when does the callback get actually called - at the very end of the request (status == 200 and readyState == 4) or can I call it intermittently to download new data while my PHP script is in sleep()-ing?

JQuery :: Ajax Request Using Https Url Not Adding Custom Header?

Aug 26, 2011

I am developing a mobile web app which communicates with a wcf service that returns data in json format. The way security is handled is the user logins and recieves a token which is added to the http header. The login ajax request which passes the url strings to the service is using https protocol. This works fine. The other 2 ajax requests are also supposed to use https but when I do this the custom header isn't added. If I use http which is the old url, the custom header is added to http header. I have tested this using fiddler2 and firebug and for some reason it doesn't like https in the ajax request url.

function login_service()
{
//$.mobile.pageLoading();
var stringUsername = $('#txtUsername').val();
var stringPassword = $('#txtPassword').val();

Jquery :: Json Response From An Ajax Request ?

Mar 28, 2011

I got a problem with a json response from an ajax request.

I have the following code :

Code:

And the called page (ajax_sous_famille.php) is giving me this result :

Code:

The info in the resulting string is correct, but here you can see the [ ] at the start and end of the line. It seems not to be a correct Json string and then it crashes my script !

I have another request like this which gives me the good format of resulting data (without the [ ]) and which works perfectly when i decode the Json string to display it.

The difference between the 2 requests is that the one which works returns only 1 array of values like

Code:

And the second one which doesn't work returns something like

Code:

Actually, all the records are coming from a database and in the case it doesn't work, i wanna get several results from this database.

JQuery :: Ajax Request And Get The Response Back From Implementation - .toggle() Does Not Work

Apr 7, 2010

I have a problem which I am not able to solve. I read a lot and tried many things but without being successful. Mhh.. The problem I struggle with is a simple .toggle() of a DIV. This is working fine. But now I do an ajax request and get the response back from my javascript ajax implementation (I'm using ajax anywhere). Within this implementation I work inside a callback routine which makes it possible accessing the response before updateing the DOM. Inside this routine I want to .toggle() but this is not working. It happens just nothing. I also do not get any javascript errors. As soon as the request is completly done I am able to .toggle() again.

When I am accessing the DIV by using jquery ($('#div_id')) it is referenced to the correct object within de document. Only the .toggle() does not work. .hide() for example is working fine.

Background: I am doing this like this, because I want to know if the response contains validation erros. If so I leave the DIV with the form inside as it is an highlight the error. Otherwise (no errors) I close the div with .toggle(), update the dom with the new form and open the DIV again.

Many reports are facing a problem that they lose the jquery binding. But this is not my problem as far as I understand.

JQuery :: HTTP GET Request When The User Presses "enter" When Inside Of An <input> Element?

Apr 8, 2010

For some reason, IE8 insists on submitting an HTTP GET request when the user presses "enter" when inside of an <input> element.It's a rather curious thing because I have an <input type="submit" /> that has an event for "click" that contains the following code:

event.preventDefault();
event.stopImmediatePropagation();

This works on Firefox - if the user presses "Enter" inside of an input element on the form, the submit button will not execute. But on IE, it does. However, if the IE user "clicks" the submit button, it does the right thing.Do I have to also override keydown events too and stop those? Why does Firefox and IE work differently here?

I've tried innerHTML but to no avail. (Does it have to be wrapped in a container?) Or is innerHTML a replace only?
