What would be the easier way to do this? For each of the list elements I want to check how many image elements are inside each, and do something with the one that has only one image.

why does this not work for clickable images -essentially buttons, generated by ajax response but works if you just put it all on one page the image (works when pre generated, but not when generated by an ajax response):
<img src='img/minus-8.png' class='button' />
the javascript:
$(document).ready(function(){
[code]....

Below is a simple page where a click loads a div. The contents loaded are a few paragraphs. What I'm looking to do is, after the user loads the div 'remotecontent' by clicking "click here to load", that he will be able to click on one of the paras in that div and have the contents of that para displayed in the div 'respondtoremoteclick'.
<html><head> <script src="jquery.js"></script>
<script language=Javascript>
function loadremotecontent() {

Is there a possibility to find out the coordinates, relative to the whole

I'm trying to use unobtrusive javascript for a page I am building. I want to insert a "bookmark me" item into the page. This is the script I am using:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[URL]" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head><title>Page</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/css/base.css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function add_favorite() {
document.getElementById('bookmark').innerHTML="<a href="#" rel="sidebar" onclick="if(navigator.appName=='Microsoft Internet Explorer'){ window.external.AddFavorite(location.href, document.title); return false; }else{ this.title = document.title; }" onMouseover="window.status='Bookmark Us';return true" onMouseout="window.status=";return true" title="Bookmark This Page"><img src="/images/bookmark65-3.png" alt="Bookmark This Page" /></a>";
} window.onload=add_favorite();
-->
</script></head><body>
<div id="wrapper">
<div id="header">
<h1>Heading goes here...</h1>
<div id="bookmark">
</div></div>
<div id="main">
<h2>Content goes here...</h2>
</div><div id="footer">
Footer goes here...
</div></div></body></html>
It's pretty simple stuff that just populates an empty div with an image link to bookmark the page when users have javascript enabled. Now when I call the function using <body onload="add_favorite();"> and cancel out the window.onload=add_favorite(); from the script it works just fine (it throws a line-1 syntax error up in IE that I can't figure out, but functionally everything still works in IE7 and FF2). When I try to do it the "unobtrusive" way I get nothing at all in either browser.
A little debugging revealed that the function is indeed being called and is running successfully, however the function is somehow unable to locate the element with ID of "bookmark" when it is fired with window.onload and as a result I get no bookmarking link. It's almost like window.onload is triggering itself too soon, before the div of "bookmark" is in the page, but how can that be?

I have some pages being loaded via ajax and I want some of the elements hidden when the page is loaded.I could hide them with CSS and then change the css attribute when I want them to show but that just seems clunky to me since I'd have to assign <input style="visibility: hidden;"> to everything I wanted hidden on load. I know how to make it visible later when I need it.Using jquery's document.read doesn't seem like a good solution either since I'd have to make a list of everything I might want hidden right there on the main page.

i have a FAQ Question h2 acting as a trigger to slide out a hidden div below it, the FAQ answer, and clicking it toggles the h2 class so the bg img changes.toggle_container is the hidden div, h2 is the trigger..
code below:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".toggle_container").hide(); // Hides the container onLoad
$("h2.trigger").click(function(){
[code]....
now i have a rating plugin that sits in the h2 tag. when i click the rating star, it behaves as intended, but also then somehow calls the above code and expands the FAQ answer.

I have a web app that performs a lot of ongoing ajax requests to keep multiple elements all up to date as time goes by, so there are almost always ajax calls going on in the background - this is neccessary in this situation. Now for the problem (aka annoyance), when there's an ajax call in progress page elements all lag, e.g. If I hover over a:hover etc everything lags and if I disable the ajax calls and do the hovers they all respond immediately. Is there some kind of way I can stop my ajax calls from making the page feel so damn laggy?

What I want to do is change the border of several images on the page to show a 4px border. There are many images on the page so I just want to call the changeborder() function on the onClick event so as the image that has been clicked changes. However, I don't think using this.style.border to identify the element works when placed within the function. That is, how do I identify, from the function, which image has been clicked? My current code (which does not work) looks like this but I am sure its possible to gather what i'm trying to achieve:
<script type="text/javascript">
function changeborder()
{
this.style.border='4px solid red'
}
</script>
<img style="border: 1px solid #F4F4F4;" onclick="changeborder()" src="images/colours/010.jpg" border="0">

I need to make a $.post call on the beforeSend event of another $.ajax call.I read the documentation and I see that if the beforeSend return false the ajax call will be interrupt.So I made this code but doesn't work, because the real value of the beforesend function isn't true or false, is the value of the post.I have to do this because when you click on a link I need to verify before if you are able to do this via db permission of my webapp.I think you don't understand...This is the code:
$.ajax({
async: true,
beforeSend: function(){[code]....
});I see always the alert of success event, so the return of the beforesend is not correctly done.

I'm fairly new to jquery and I've been stumped on this one for a day now. I'm creating a lighbox type photo gallery on a page. The box is simply a hidden div that is displayed when the user clicks a link. When the link is clicked to launch a gallery I'm using the .load() function to grab another page and load it into the hidden div which is now displayed.
The code looks like this $('#galleryBox').load('boxModal.php?ID=' + ID)); The issue I'm having is after I load up the gallery box with boxModal.php.. I want to be able to respond to the click or mouseover event of the images that have loaded in that box. But I can't seem to find the images in the DOM. Is it possible to add event handlers to images loaded using the .load() function?

I have a calendar in which each day is a separate div, and all these are within a container div #cal. When a user mouses over one of the days, I want to figure out the index number of that day's div within #cal. Simplified example:
<div id="cal">
<div onmouseover="findIt()" id="nov1">1</div>
<div onmouseover="findIt()" id="nov2">2</div>
<div onmouseover="findIt()" id="nov3">3</div>
</div>
I can easily get the index of #nov2 from Firebug if I do this in the console:
$('#cal div').index($('#nov2')
But, I can't figure out how to write a function so that I don't need to assign an id to each day div. I'd like to be able to just take "this" from the moused-over div, and pass that to a function that can turn it into the needed index.

I am working on a little project with fullcalendar but while writing some callback functions stumbled upon an issue: Fullcalendar generates html that looks like this: <a><span></span><span></span><span></span></a>.
Now there is an eventClick callback that is fired when clicking on that <a> element. However, in that callback I would like to know which <span> element was clicked.

First some sample clode:
I have a jQuery click event handler on the dethead tr's which is fine.
But what I want to find in this click event handler is the previous <h3> to the clicked <tr>
So if I click on item1, item2 or item3 I want to find the <h3>Heading 1</h3>
I click on item4, item5 or item6 I want to find the <h3>Heading 2</h3>
NOTE: Not all the <h3> will have the same classes, if any class at all.
Been trying various things from Tree Traversal but have not found the right combination.
