JQuery :: Updating Table Row After Ajax Call
Jun 6, 2011I am (finally) successfully calling and running a php script using $.ajax() and now I need to update a table row as a result of that. In the ajax I have these variables for the updated row: docID, docName, docDescription. Since the docID is used elsewhere on the page, I'll need to start with the table id, which is #docsTable.
The rows that I need to update look like this:

The name attribute is the docID, so that is unique within that table, for that document. So, my question is, how can I build a selector that will allow me to change the 3rd and 4th <td> tags with document name and document description, respectively?

May 10, 2011I've created an ajax function which retrieves comments from a news article. But if I am logged in I will also have access to an input field for posting comments. The problem / question is that if I use Ajax I can only update one div with the responseText? How would I go about updating another one where I want to insert my form field. Can I make multiple requests in some certain manner or do I simply create another ajax function updating it separately?

Ajax :: Call In Progress Page Elements All Lag
Jun 2, 2011I have a web app that performs a lot of ongoing ajax requests to keep multiple elements all up to date as time goes by, so there are almost always ajax calls going on in the background - this is neccessary in this situation. Now for the problem (aka annoyance), when there's an ajax call in progress page elements all lag, e.g. If I hover over a:hover etc everything lags and if I disable the ajax calls and do the hovers they all respond immediately. Is there some kind of way I can stop my ajax calls from making the page feel so damn laggy?

Sep 2, 2010I am trying to update 2 div with a .ajax (i tried also .get ) call and i make this code working, so that the updating is realized within 2 url calls. but i can 't figure out how to do it within 1 call?
if i try the read the data var then i get the innerHTML of the clicked node (dhis) i thought i could read up the data var and extract somehow the innerHTML of #checkout_basketList but i can't because .ajax/.get somehow takes the innerHTML of the clicked node (dhis). so i have to make a new call that i do with .load (because of the partial load capabillities) but then again its stupid to do 2 call when all the info is already in the first call, is mine approch not good.

AJAX :: Update Multiple Window Elements With Single Request?
Dec 18, 2010The general outline is that I have part of a page that deals with the addition, editing and deletion of upcoming events. Data is stored in a MySQL table. The form design (in traditional terms) would be very simple requiring three fields, one for the Event Name, one for the Event Description and one (hidden) to identify the UniqueID of the event in the MySQL table. (As the reference to make edits.) The table therefore has 3 fields. (There are more such as Timestamp, clientID etc, but they are not important here.)
I envisage three functions, one to add, one to edit and one to delete the event listed on the page. I have 3 php files eventadd.php, eventedit.php and eventdelete.php which speak for themselves.However, this is where I have the problem. What I have been doing is returning the xmlhttpresponse as a formatted HTML page for the two 'form' elements because whilst I can return unformatted text containing the relevant fields in one response, I don't know how to break that down into two sections for the innerHTML of the two 'form' elements that change.
Returning a formatted page does work, but as well as being slower than neccessary, I am also running into character-set encoding issues and I just know that I am not doing this properly. I can supply code and things, but I have a feeling that this problem will have come up somewhere and probably has a recognized solution because to me it seems to be such an obvious requirement to be able to populate several form elements with fields from one recordset.
JQuery :: Updating Children Elements In Cloned Div?
Feb 18, 2011I have a button and a table that I want to clone when "Add new" button is pressed, and then append the cloned elements to the "items" container, but with updated id's and names - the update is done by appending the value of "num" attribute of "items". In the end I'll have to clone and update the id's and names for multiple input elements in the table found in the "default_container" - but right now it doesn't work even for direct children. The problem (one of them at least) right now is that the iteration over the children isn't performed.

JQuery :: Updating Multiple DIV Based On The Previous DIV?

This code block occurs several times. Sometime the first div ist just "inner" and the second div is missing.
Now I need to update the "new" DIV based on the height of the previous inner-new DIV. For one it works fine:

But how could I re-use this universally for all my boxes. It needs to check if the DIV "box" contains the DIV "inner-new" as first element, if that is true it need to update the DIV "new".
I tried several things with $('#box').each(function(i) { ... }); but couldn't come up with a solution.

Multiple Widgets On Page - Updating Fields?
May 17, 2011I have a page, that will contain up to a couple hundred different widgets on it, that an individual will be able to browse through and choose the size and quantity of the ones they want. Each widget will have form fields associated with it: "size" (small, medium, large) and "quantity", with a "total cost" field underneath that. As the individual looks through the widgets, choosing the size and quantity of the ones they want, I'd like for the "total cost" field to be updated under each widget. I'd also like a "total order cost" field that sums up all the costs of the widgets they want.
I need the script to basically say:
If size = small, then multiply $1 by the quantity.
If size = medium, then multiply $2 by the quantity.
If size = large, then multiply $3 by the quantity.

Jun 22, 2009I'm using jquery-ui 1.6 custom build with jquery 1.2.6 trying to set up a dialog window. Unfortunately I can't update to 1.3.2 since this would trigger some unexpected XHR-related bugs like the following:
So I'm sticking with the 1.2.6 build, which works fine despite a minor/not-critical XHR issue:
Notice that this error is reported in FireBug/Venkman, however Firefox doesn't seem to care and let the XMLHTTPRequest to execute successfully.
The code for the dialog window is given below. I don't seem to understand why posted data cannot be shown on the dialog box twice.
Moreover, it will display it as I want on the first $.post request but any additional requests triggered with a click event don't show any updated data on the dialog box. Venkman reports that the anonymous callback function manages to obtain the updated data, but still nothing get shown on the dialog, just an empty div... ;-)
This is the script that gets evaluated by jQuery (using $.get(...)). A json object is returned by the server either containing form validation errors or a result object that contains simple strings.

AJAX :: Call Based On Results Of A Previous Call
Dec 14, 2010The general framework is a simple user login function. The user name is selected and a password entered as usual. The function grabs the element values and passes them to a php page that queries the database. An AJAX call returns the password to the function and then I want the innerHTML to be a choice of two web pages, depending on success or failure of validation. There are existing AJAX functions available on the internet but they are overly complicated for what I think should be a simple, quick to load function.
Where I am stuck is that the standard procedure to make an AJAX call is the browser window event. How do you make the call from within the function? I have tried creating two new variables, "success" and "again" to replace xmlhttp, but still stumble on the event to assign a value. I left the blank password protection (if statement) with that variable to demonstrate what I mean.
I've put in my code below, which is in development and successfully alters the innerHTML text depending on user input but I can't figure out how to insert the relevant php page. I have '// out' the testing bits, but left them for info. (I have tried full 'scripting' as the innerHTML, but it's messy.)

(add a product to shopping cart) then after it completes I want to use .load to re-load the shoppingcart (the cart is currently loaded with php include - so it is it's own seperate .php file). The problem is that when it reloads it doesn't have the "current version" If i refresh the page it's fine..

I have also tried to put a variable in front from the $.ajax and then use $("#cart").ajaxComplete(function() { $(this).load("cart.php"); } });
But yet still no luck. How to make ajax load a page after the mysql update has been done then display it?! I used to do this all the time before I started using jquery. When readyState was = 4 { load page code here } it would always work.
AJAX :: Updating FORM Action Based On Input
Aug 2, 2011Let me preface this by saying that I have ZERO experience with Ajax, and have simply copied this code from a blog elsewhere. What is shown below ties to a php file that I developed for a search function on our site. As the user enters their search term(s) in the text input field, the div below is populated with potential results through AJAX. I get all that.
However, I'd like to extend this a bit more. I'd like to enable to user to click the Enter key to follow the URL of the top search result automatically, without having to move their mouse and click on it.
Since I'm using PHP to generate the actual URL, I'm sure I can just send this back as a variable via AJAX, but with my lack of understanding, I thought I'd poke around here for some assistance. Can someone show me how to tweak the code below to accomplish what I'm looking for?

I'm less concerned about getting the Enter key to perform the submit than I am about passing the URL variable back to the form via AJAX. I've seen lots of examples of getting the Enter key to behave this way, I just didn't want to muddy up the original code above.

JQuery :: Image/icon Ajax Toggle Updating Database?
May 4, 2009I'm building a site that uses some jQuery but at this point I haven't had to get my hands dirty in the code. I'm hoping to get some pointers on how to best approach this problem, or if a plug-in exists to point me that way. I'm anticipating I'll need to build the code though because of the specific nature of the issue. I have a two very complex MySQL data trees that need to cross reference. To handle the cross referencing I simply have a third table that links the ids of the large tables together. That way I can join data via the linking table. This is all working and established. What I need to do is allow the admin user to navigate through one tree from within the context of a particular element from the other tree and click a toggle icon (tick or cross) to create or delete the cross reference in the linking table. Traditionally I would perform this task using forms but I want the user to be able to make these changes on the fly without needing to reload the page. I also want to stop further toggling until the update or delete has been completed.
