JQuery :: Empty Doesn't Check Values After Loading

May 7, 2009

I'm trying to select my textarea only if it is not empty. I have used :empty for this purpose. This works find when you load the page, however if you start typing in it still considers the value as it was when the page loads.

Example. If my textarea is empty when I load the page, it will consider it empty. If I starting typing in, and check if it is empty it still say it is empty.

The same vice versa. If my textarea has text when the page loads, then i clear that data, it still consider it filled not empty.

So how to make the check of :empty in real time?

JQuery :: Check If An Element Matches A Selector?

Jul 9, 2010

is there any way one can test if an element matches a jQuery selector? I'm not trying to locate elements, just test for match.

More specifically, when using event delegation and a common callback function for multiple events, is there a way to check the event's currentTarget against a selector?

In the following example, how can I check if the currentTarget is the LI node with class "item2"?

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js"></script>

Check For JS Cookie Before Loading Rest Of Page?

Aug 2, 2010

Is it possible to have an window.onload function that checks for a cookie, and only loads the rest of the page if that cookie is current?

I know that there's the window.stop() function, but that appears to only stop the drawing of the page in the browser; if you view the page source, the whole thing is still there for all the world to see.

I'm working on a multi-page site. The login page does its username and password checking on the server side in Perl. Then a client-side cookie is set in JS. In the <head> section of each page, there is a window.onload JS function which checks to see if the cookie has expired yet. But the question is, what do we do if it is expired??

The best I've been able to come up with so far is to have it instantly do a location.replace, taking the user back to the login page. But that seems kludgy. In some browsers, you actually see the intended page for a split second, before the location.replace happens. In testing it, it only took me a few tries to hit the stop button at just the right time to prevent the location.replace from even happening. So it's not only kludgy, it's also only marginally effective.

It would be great if I could prevent the rest of the page from ever loading if the cookie has expired.

JQuery :: Obvious Jumping Of Element From Original Position To New Positon After Loading Of New Page?

Jun 16, 2010

If you go on my test site: [URL]... You will see a navigation menu at the top, with an animated ball. Every time you click on one of the links in the navigation menu, you will notice that after a new page is loaded there is a sudden jump from the balls original position to it's new position. (Not that obvious in Firefox but very obvious in IE and Safari) My question is how can I resolve this.

I assumed that wrapping the code in the $(document).ready function would elimate this issue as everything inside it will load before the page contents are loaded.

Check The Current Element Set Style.display?

Feb 18, 2010

I am using AJAX + JSON to construct a HTML code, which physicaly does not appear on my page, but after is created and put in a variable I display it with innerHTML. Then with another on e function, I tell some of the <tr> to get style.display = 'none', which is working properly! Then I want to check which of them are currently invisible an d for that purpose I use:

Code:
for (p = 0; p < rows.length; p++) {
if(document.getElementById(rows[p].id).style.display == 'none') {
alert(rows[p].id);
}
}

where rows is a define array with getElementsbyTag with all the <tr> - s. Then what happens is really strange - I am getting alerted ALL the <tr> ids, including the currently visible, and, then they dissappear, (as if I have told them to make them style.display = none, which I haven't)!! I have tried also with currentStyle instead of style, but the effect is the same.

JQuery :: Basic Page Loading DIV - Full Window DIV That Sits Above All The Content With A Loading Icon

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.

The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.

After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.

The current code is:

CSS for the loading DIV is:
