I would like to know how to make an element Loses the Focus and How to check if it is focused or not?
cause after someone clicks in the search button I want it to lose the focus in the Text Input
and I want to check if its focused.
At the moment, I have datepicker working on my page, and I really like it. When I tab through my form, and the date field receives the focus, the calendar opens. I pick a date and it closes. but some times I'm tabbing backwards through a form, or tabbing over a date field that already has a date in it, and just want to "tab on by". Datepicker open when the date field receives the focus, but does not close when the date field loses the focus.

I have everything working except the page.blur... I can't seem to find an event that will work for this.
I have to execute some code on the onchangeevent of a SELECT / RADIO. On IE9, it works fine. But on IE7, IE8 and Chrome, the event fires only after I lose focus from the SELECT / RADIO concerned. I tried addEventListener(), $("#some_control").attr("change", some_function), $("#some_control").change()but all in vain.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf we have a popup window open and it is not in focus how can we check it? If the popup is not in focus and the user is looking at something else I want to play a "beep" sound using <embed>. However if they are focused on the popup I do not wan to play this "beep" sound.
To explain in further detail I have a Instant Messenger running and if the user does not have the IM focused and they get a new message there is no way in letting them know. So I thought a "beep" sound would be nice. I found a way to simply focus() the window, however don't think many will like that.
I would like to disable a feature on my site if someone is in a textarea or input text field. Yet I can't seem to figure out how to check for this... Could someone give me an example of how I can determine if a user does not have a text input or textarea selected? Can't seem to get anything I found via google working.

I click on a link...(say facebook) from the current window. It opens up in a new browser tab. Until here i got it working. Now when i get back to my previous window and click on the same link, then the tab already displaying the facebook site should either get focused or at least blink, so as to alert the user.
I'm trying to make the cursor focus on a certain input element when someone hits a certain key combo (such as Shift+S). Does anyone know how you attach a listener like that and bind it to a key combo?
View 1 Replies View RelatedvBulletin uses a template system so I can't create a separate element for everything -- we have had several people ask for a "skip to the next post" feature and I'd like to implement that for them My first thought was to use anchor tags such as:

for each post and then to create a link for "Jump to Next Post" which would advance the user to the next instance of <a name="$post[postid]"> in which the postid obviously would've changed. With that I didn't know if there was a way that I could have javascript look for the next instance of this, or to pull the postid number and add 1 to it to find the next post on the page. I'm also not sure if it would need to be as complicated as reading where it was at and then adding one and directing person to that anchor point, which is why I thought maybe it could just look for the next instance of <a name="$post[postid]"> and refocus the screen on that.
It doesn't have to be an anchor, it can be a hidden input, whatever makes the JS be able to seek it as a point to move the page to. We do have some members that select a different number of posts per page than the default, so I'm guessing that the plus one might not be a great idea if they used a smaller number per page and then clicked the last one, whereas people with more per post wouldn't need to stop at the same point before it no longer let them. If there's a solution for that, that'd be great as well (such as once it hits the last element on the page, it no longer receives instruction, goes to the top of the page, or something).
I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. How can I change it to cycle focus to the actual first and last elements? Here is a live link to my form: [URL]. Here is my script:

I just started using the grate validate plugin today and I can't really find an example of what I'm trying to customize...
Basically, I think it's confusing for a select element to change on focus instead of on change, meaning: the user forgets to select an option, the drop down is highlighted with some CSS, so use selects an option, but CSS error styling doesn't go away until the user clicks somewhere else on the page... A minor gripe, but I'm a big believer of the Steve Krug "don't make me think" school ;)
I'm still not quite clearly on how to implement own customizations of this plugin even after going through the docs...

I have an input box with an id. I also have a jquery hotkey plugin which fires when I press F8 in this case.

The hotkey works just fine. (ive tested with alert boxes). What I am trying to do is find the cursor location (and then the elements id) when the f8 key is pressed. or...

Is it possible to extend jquery to include a function that will select elements with focus. In the same way :input selects all inputs :selected selects all selected etc but instead :focus or focused: which would select the focused element. I have a table which includes an input field on each row (like a simple datagrid). Id like to be able to hit an access key and delete the row (input textbox) which has focus ie the row which the cursor has been placed in.
I found this but it selects the first input textbox only for some reason?... and not the one with focus.

I recently wrote some code, which involves a list. Elements can be picked by up/down arrow keys.To highlight the elements, I'm using a similar call to objects[focus]stop (true,true).animate({'opacity': 1}, 200);(As you can see, all DOM elements are cached)the same call goes to the element which lost the focus, with an opacity value of 0.2.Whatsoever, I noticed on testing that the performance is just fine on firefox 2/3, IE 7/8, even Safari has good results.Only exception so far is Chrome, it's terribly slow on those calls with a CPU load of 40-50%.I didn't further investigate that behavior since it still works "OK" on Chrome, but SIGNIFICANT slower.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've googled the heck out of this, and although I'm finding plenty of solutions, I'm having trouble understanding them. I'm very new to jquery, and brand new to ajax. My problem is, I have a php application using several jquery effects. I've just started learning ajax and it is going really well, this stuff is incredible! But all the ajax loaded data loses the jquery effects. I get that it is a DOM issue, and I've seen that others have used "live" (i think?) to fix this, but I honestly just have no understanding of how toimplementanything that I'm seeing.

I am working on a script to allow the user to click on an image to turn table header locking on and off. Everything appears to work fine, with the exception of one quirk that is occurring when I run the test page in Internet Explorer (7, in this case). If you click on the icon once to turn on header locking, it works. If you then click the icon again, it turns off header locking, as it is supposed to. But after that, you can no longer click on the icon. It is as if it loses the event binding. I am not removing or in anyway creating a new instance of the icon (although I did try using live() instead of click() just to be safe). Also, if I run this same page in Firefox, I do not have this problem. You can see the example page and view the complete source at [URL]

I have a website I am working on that the customer wants nice text displayed in both the user/pass boxes prior to entering data. So I figured it would be nice to just use background images (as passwords cant have text) and it looked very nice. The issue is when the user selects a username from a dropdown list of previously entered usernames and selects via the mouse it doesn't fire any events that I can see. The largest issue is they want the username focused, otherwise this would be easy with just onFocus/blur.
I feel after the hours I have put into it that I am missing something very simple. I just want the bg to change when data is in the field but not delayed. FF is giving me the most fits.
