JQuery :: Validate - Check <select> On Change Instead Of On Focus?

I just started using the grate validate plugin today and I can't really find an example of what I'm trying to customize...
Basically, I think it's confusing for a select element to change on focus instead of on change, meaning: the user forgets to select an option, the drop down is highlighted with some CSS, so use selects an option, but CSS error styling doesn't go away until the user clicks somewhere else on the page... A minor gripe, but I'm a big believer of the Steve Krug "don't make me think" school ;)
I'm still not quite clearly on how to implement own customizations of this plugin even after going through the docs...

I have an application where users select a number from 10 dropdown boxes in table rows. The problem is if they choose the last value the cursor drops down to several rows below. What I really want to do is to focus the row and move the cursor back to the row the user just selected. I tried stuff like:
$.scrollTo('table tr.debit');
$('table tr.debit').focus();
$('table tr.debit').select();
But the cursor doesn't jump back to the row and the row doesnt highlight (debit and credit classes highlight the row on hover).

I'm working under certain constraints wherein,at a certain point outside my direct control,validate is called with no arguments, but after that I want to set a custom validation function on a form field. I figure there's got to be a way to manipulate validate's internal data structure to add the function, but I don't have a clue as to how.

I've been building up my validation using the jquery validation plugin but I can't work out how to get a failed validation to default the focus to the first invalid input rather than to the last selected input. If there is no input field selected, when I submit then a failed validation will focus the cursor on the first field but if the cursor was left in a field and submitted then the focus stays there (if it's invalid) rather than jump to the first invalid input. From what I've read and seen, this is the expected behaviour but not what I want. Is there a way I can get the first invalid field and set the focus to that?

I have an AJAX application for a form that has 4 columns and 170 rows. It uses an onblur call to update a database each time you move out of a cell. This works fine.
Client wanted to validate for a number so I added a function to check for this and an alert call if the numer check failed. This works fine.
However, dismissing the alert results in the focus moving to the next cell rather than returning to the invalid cell. Big problem. I have been successful in coding focus to go to any other cell in the table except the one with the errror. Code:

I use the Validation plugin [URL] and do like this:

remote: zip.php,
},
I have two fields; zip and city, I validate zip with remote and it checks against a list if the zip is valid, but i want it too:
Check if the zip is valid
Return true if it is valid and return the city of the zip and paste it in the city-input...
Of course I have a database/array/list with all zip and city's.

I'm running validation on a form that has two components, a payments segment and an address segment. Both of these need to be within the same form. By default, the address segment is hidden. Upon validation, I would like to display the payment segment, but only if there are validation errors within that segment. Using invalidHandler, I've been able to successfully fire a function when errors are returned, but I haven't found a way to check if there are errors within that container. My plan was to check for the invalid class within that container... something like this:

$('.billingAddress').addClass('showForm');

The problem is that the invalid class (.client_validation) isn't applied when the invalidHandler function is executed.

I have a form with a series of fields. Only certain fields need to be validated when certain buttons are pressed. The reason for this is mainly because I had to build my own wizard style setup with jquery so, even though it's one big form, only certain bits need to be checked as they progress. I tried to tweak the accordion example given by the creators but it can't really apply to my scenario.
I've simplified the code down a bit and it is behaving exactly the same way as the big form...which is to say it's not behaving at all.
In this code, I want it to only validate field txt1 if button 1 is pressed and text2 if field 2 is pressed. One odd thing to note, when I set it up exactly as the site recommended with one big mass validation and such, it would only acknowledge the existence of the first field even though they both had class="required" on them.

Is it possible to extend jquery to include a function that will select elements with focus. In the same way :input selects all inputs :selected selects all selected etc but instead :focus or focused: which would select the focused element. I have a table which includes an input field on each row (like a simple datagrid). Id like to be able to hit an access key and delete the row (input textbox) which has focus ie the row which the cursor has been placed in.
I found this but it selects the first input textbox only for some reason?... and not the one with focus.

I have this code that unhides a select box when the user clicks in the parent li containing it. Now I just want the .focus to seem more natural to the user as if they had just clicked in a normal select. As it stands, you have to click on it again to make it active (view the selections..)

I am trying to refactor some forms I wrote a while back to use jQuery validate instead of custom validation. I want the forms to be validated from the start, but when a user clicks into any input the error should be cleared until the user leaves the input. It seems like focusCleanup is exactly what I am looking for, but in my opinion it doesn't work properly for select boxes.
When you click into the text input it works exactly as I had hoped, but when you click into the select box it clears the errors for a second and then immediately reevaluates it.

I know that I could get this functionality by hacking it in, but I am hoping to find a clean way, using the plugin, to get my desired output. Anyone else think that the focusCleanup is broken for selects?

i am trying to pass text from one select box to another select box. The logic is if 10 are added, no more passing must happen. Also if an item is already added, it mustn't be added again.I am using the for loop to check the existence of an item but it is not working: what am i doing wrong?

disable select until user puts mark in check box. Then enable select.I have two select box's on a page. The first asks what product, the second is based on the first and presents a list of pdf's according to which product the user selected. I have a php function that list all of the countries from my database as a select option, then based on what the user selects for their country im using jquery to make an ajax call and get all of the states/regions for that country. This part works fine. I'm running into an issues, as when a user login's in to edit their profile, how would I make the select change based on what is in the databse.

I need to validate checkoxes to make sure the user selects no more than 2 of the checkboxes. The problem I'm having is in the naming of the checkboxes. The PHP form processor portion of the page requires the checkboxes to be named "dogs[beagle]". This is causing problems with the javascript validation. This is what I have so far...since I've used just the first part of the checkbox name "dogs" the script is not working..I'm kind of new to javascript...Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work. I'm relatively new to jQ and would like to determine if a named window is already open. If it is then I want to change focus to that window/tab. The scenario is this. I have a link in App1 that opens a new window to an already existing linked (related) web form in App2. If the user forgets they have that window open in App2 and clicks the same link in App1 as before (to open the related form in App2,) it opens a window that is not the same window as the original window. I need App1 to detect if a window already exists in the browser of the same name and if so, change the browser focus to it.
