i am working on a custom drop down list that has hidden #options DIV which is shown when the user clicks on a button. the problem i am having is that the click event does not seem to be attached to the LI elements since they are hidden when the page first loads. if i show the #options DIV when the page loads everything is working as expected.i've tried to attach the click event after i show the hidden UL but that didn't work either.what can i do to make sure the LI click event fires? i tried to put A tag inside of LI and attach click to that but to no avail.

I'm looking to send a loop variable (i) to a function inside the loop, but I can't seem to get it to use the value I want, it keeps making it a reference of i and therefore the function is always called using the last value of i rather than the one it was set with.
So if i have 5 Tabs then Tab 1, when clicked, should call DefaultTabClick(0) and so on rather than always using 4 for any of the tabs.

i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.
Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

I'm currently trying to produce an HTML table from an XML feed, using jQuery. And this works great! With an "each" loop, there now is a nice table on my screen, displaying the right information from the feed.
I would like for each new row of this table to have a separate color. For example:
row 1 - blue
row 2 - green
row 3 - blue again
row 4 - green again
...
and so on...
What I've tried, is putting something like this inside the loop:
var
x=0
(this line should probably be outside of the loop, but that doesn't seem to work)
if
(x=0)
code 1...
x=x+1
else
code 2...
x=x-1
But this doesn't work.

I've got a select box that, when you choose any option besides #5, it changes the value of a related input box from 0 to 1. This works great except when I hide() the div that wraps this input box. My overall goal is to have the input (and surrounding div) hidden via hide(), and then update this input box when a select is changed.
Here is my code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("div#edit-qty-56-wrapper").hide();
function enterQty() {
var attrValue = $( "select#edit-attributes-56-1" ).val();
if (attrValue !== '5') {
$("input#edit-qty-56").val('1');
} else {
$("input#edit-qty-56").val('0');
}}
$("select#edit-attributes-56-1" ).change(enterQty);
enterQty();
});

I am calling a program using $.getJSON() inside of a for loop. The problem is that the second callback doesn't wait for the first program to finish before it executes. Is it possible to ensure that the second iteration of the loop doesn't happen until the first one is finished?

buttons: {
"Import": function() {
var ids = $("#itemsGrid").jqGrid('getGridParam','selarrrow');

Trying to add a new property to a non-jQuery object from inside each loop doesn't appear to work:
var arguments=new Object();
arguments['ticket']=ticket;
arguments['email']=email;
arguments['module']=module;
arguments['epoch']=new Date().getTime();
var total=0;
$('select.category').each(function(){
var name=$(this).attr('id');
var option=$(this).find('option:selected').val();
total+=parseInt(option);
arguments[name]=option;
});
The 'total' variable works as expected. The the 'arguments' variable doesn't. Almost like
a variable scope issue or something. If I put some extra debug code to print out all the
property/value pairs, outside each loop I only see original four, and inside each loop only
the new one just set and none of the original four.?

I'm having some problem with return value for a function. I'm trying to access google blogger's API to display blog entries on my site. I'm doing this through JQuery and requesting a JSON response. Everything seems to work ok, but I want to access the link for the blog entry. This is a subset of the "entry" object.
It's structured like this:
Entry:
title,
content,
link:
rel,
type,
href,
rel,
type,
href,
I want to get the link where the "link.rel == "self". To do this I have to loop through the link object (5 times). The loop and conditional statement works correctly, but I can't get the variable inside this loop back to my original function.
I have this code:
$.each(data.feed.entry, function(i, entry){
$.each(entry.link, function(j, link){
if(link.rel == "self"){
var postlink = link.href;
alert("link : " + postlink);
return postlink;
}});
alert(postlink);
});

I have a problem with selecting certain elements with jquery.I have a "newsfeed" where I have a lot of these tables:
Code:
<table class=newsfeed_table>
<tr>
<td class="newsfeed_table_icon"><img src="/CodeIgniter/verkstad/icons/nf-msg-cr.png" alt=""/></td>[code]....
It's basically just a table containing a message, who wrote it and when.I'm trying to build a function that filters what types of posts are visible in the newsfeed. So by clicking a button I want to be able to filter out the "message"-post or the "sale-alert"-post.Only way I can see which type of post it is, is by looking at the image source in the table. So depending on what that is, I want to set the table to display:none.
But I've been looking into the jquery selector a bit but I can't make it work. I've tried with .each(function and child selector...

I'm trying to add some js automation to a blogging application I've developed for a wysiwig site builder program. This program doesn't allow php or any kind of server scripting, so everything has to be done with js. The basic set up is that a user enters a blog post in the application and the code below appends a comments div (which are already on the page but hidden by css) to the post:
Code:
Instead of using this code for every post instance, I'd like to create a simple loop that will assign an incremental number to the post and comments id's when a new post appears in the page's html, and then append a comments div to the post. I tried a for routine that would add 1 to every post, but couldn't get it to work right.

I had to restructure my XML data on my project and now my code does not work. Before the xml was structured like this:
<project><copy></copy><image></image></project>
Now it is:
<company><project><copy></copy><image></image></project><project><copy></copy><image></image></project><project><copy></copy><image></image></project></company>
This used to work to grab the image and copy, (this) being the 'project' element:
text = $(this).find("copy").text();
photo = "imgs/work/" + $(this).find("image").text();
Now, since there can be multiple 'project' elements inside a company element I have a counter that tracks which index I should be on, but I don't know the syntax for getting project(2) image and copy within a company. I tried the following code using eq, but it's not working.
var currCompanyProj = 1;
text = $((this).project.eq("+currCompanyProj+")).find("copy").text();

when I try to get the height or any other graphic property of an element which is hidden (in my case, hidden in one jQuery UI tab), I can't manage to get the height of the element. If I do: $("#my_element").outerHeight() I get zero. Whereas If I do the same when the element is visible, I get its height. I work with jQuery 1.3.2 and FF 3.5.

I am using Flot its a graphing tool.I insert my flot graphing code into my main page which i do not want to show unless the user clicks a show graph button.The code is inserted into my hidden div like so:
Code:
<div class="widgetDIV" id="mydiv1">
<div id="placeholder" style="width:600px;height:300px;"></div>
<?[code]....
When the user clicks the "show graphs" link it changes the property of "mydiv1" to display='Block'.This is where the problems start.
Everything in the <Div> now appears except the chart. If i load the chart on its own it works fine and if i load the chart into a <div> that has its display properties starting off as 'Block' its also fine. The problem only occurs when i change the display property after the page is loaded.
