JQuery :: Calling A Program Using $.getJSON() Inside Of A For Loop
Dec 28, 2010
I am calling a program using $.getJSON() inside of a for loop. The problem is that the second callback doesn't wait for the first program to finish before it executes. Is it possible to ensure that the second iteration of the loop doesn't happen until the first one is finished?
$('#dialog-form').dialog({
buttons: {
"Import": function() {
var ids = $("#itemsGrid").jqGrid('getGridParam','selarrrow');
[Code].....

I have been looking at this code for two evenings now, and rewrote it 4 times already. It started out as jQuery code and now it's just concatenating strings together.
What I'm trying to do: Build a menu/outline using unordered lists from a multidimensional array.
What is happening: Inside the buildMenuHTML function, if I call buildMenuHTML, the for loop only happens once (i.e. only for 'i' having a value of '0'.) If I comment out the call to itself, it goes through the for loop all 3 times, but obviously the submenus are not created.
Here is the test object:
test = [
{
"name" : "Menu 1",
"url" : "menu1.html",
"submenu" : [
[Code].....
'Menu 2' and 'Menu 3' don't show up! I'm sure it's something small that I'm overlooking.

I ve got a bit of a problem adding new options to select. It works fine out of the getJSON routine (see commented line) PHP data supplier returns proper values and alert displays them fine, but can not add them to select
Using Multiselect widget from - http://www.erichynds.com/jquery/jquery-ui-multiselect-widget/
and jQuery 1.6 + UI 1.82
[URL]
$("#1").bind("multiselectclose", function(event, ui){
var checked1 = $("#1").multiselect("getChecked").map(function(){return this.value;}).get();
if (checked1<1){

I have a drop down menu with a change event that makes a JQuery JSON AJAX request, which I've simplified for this post:
Code JavaScript:
$('#id_template').change( function() {
var data = {
action: 'change_template'
[Code]....
When I do change the drop menu's value, the request seems to be successfully sent with a successful reply received (inspected it in Firebug), as the content in the "status == success" is accessed. However, the problem is the response is null.
I don't have this problem when I'm testing on my local WAMP setup, and so have no idea why everything appears to be working fine here except the retrieval of the response array.

I am trying to build a config object for a program using a loop. Here's what I've done so far (note: "bbtags" is an array built like this):
The RESULT that I am after would look like this:
Notice the items I marked in red. Instead of these items having the VALUE of the variable "name", they instead have value of "name".
That is, every part in red is "name".

I'm looking to send a loop variable (i) to a function inside the loop, but I can't seem to get it to use the value I want, it keeps making it a reference of i and therefore the function is always called using the last value of i rather than the one it was set with.
So if i have 5 Tabs then Tab 1, when clicked, should call DefaultTabClick(0) and so on rather than always using 4 for any of the tabs.

i guess this isn't really jQuery specific rather than it is a global JS-thing, but I tried general solutions for this and they all did not work so I figured this might be because I'm trying to do this with the $ function.
What I wanna do is this: I have a document with an iFrame. From inside that iFrame I wanna call the $-function of the original (parent) document. I tried so many things like
parent.$
top.$
window.parent / top.$
the stuff above with .document.$
and other stuff but none of that works. So, how do you call $ of the real document from inside an iFrame?

I have a huge form with a lot of data.
There is a table that data in it I need to display on a print screen (of course this data isn't being displayed in the regular table).
So, I put the display text in a span tag.
So, this is how each item will look:
I need a way to grab all spans on the page that have the attributte of "printData" and grab that text inside that attribute and print it out.

This is probably more of a basic javascript question than a specificjquery function.I have this jQuery function named validateSubmit()which calls two other regular javascript functions. When using IE,both createCharts() and getDirectorIDs get called but when usingFireFox, only createCharts() gets called and never makes it togetDirectorIDs() and I'm not sure why this occurs.
<script type="text/javascript">
// make sure at least one checkbox is checked
function validateSubmit() {

i am designing a function that will generate a menu to be used across several websites. the code i have developed goes through all of the motion i want it to, except for one quirk: while in the loop, instead of going through the loop and inserting choice1, choice2, et cetera i want it to insert, in this example, news, profile, et cetera.
this is the call to the function: Code:

I'm currently trying to produce an HTML table from an XML feed, using jQuery. And this works great! With an "each" loop, there now is a nice table on my screen, displaying the right information from the feed.
I would like for each new row of this table to have a separate color. For example:
row 1 - blue
row 2 - green
row 3 - blue again
row 4 - green again
...
and so on...
What I've tried, is putting something like this inside the loop:
var
x=0
(this line should probably be outside of the loop, but that doesn't seem to work)
if
(x=0)
code 1...
x=x+1
else
code 2...
x=x-1
But this doesn't work.

why the function "changeDiv(the_div,the_change)" is not called from the for loop in the function displayUsers(keeper)that I generated. The displayUsers is written to get rid of excess code in the function display(keeper).

{
var the_style = getStyleObject(the_div);
if (the_style != false)

Trying to add a new property to a non-jQuery object from inside each loop doesn't appear to work:
var arguments=new Object();
arguments['ticket']=ticket;
arguments['email']=email;
arguments['module']=module;
arguments['epoch']=new Date().getTime();
var total=0;
$('select.category').each(function(){
var name=$(this).attr('id');
var option=$(this).find('option:selected').val();
total+=parseInt(option);
arguments[name]=option;
});
The 'total' variable works as expected. The the 'arguments' variable doesn't. Almost like
a variable scope issue or something. If I put some extra debug code to print out all the
property/value pairs, outside each loop I only see original four, and inside each loop only
the new one just set and none of the original four.?

I'm having some problem with return value for a function. I'm trying to access google blogger's API to display blog entries on my site. I'm doing this through JQuery and requesting a JSON response. Everything seems to work ok, but I want to access the link for the blog entry. This is a subset of the "entry" object.
It's structured like this:
Entry:
title,
content,
link:
rel,
type,
href,
rel,
type,
href,
I want to get the link where the "link.rel == "self". To do this I have to loop through the link object (5 times). The loop and conditional statement works correctly, but I can't get the variable inside this loop back to my original function.
I have this code:
$.each(data.feed.entry, function(i, entry){
$.each(entry.link, function(j, link){
if(link.rel == "self"){
var postlink = link.href;
alert("link : " + postlink);
return postlink;
}});
alert(postlink);
});

I have an embarrassingly similar problem to the last time I was here. I have a google map that generates links and checkboxes from an xml file and puts them in a sidebar. The links open infowindows and the checkboxes show or hide lines on the map.
Which all works ok. But (like last time) I have another function that puts arrowheads along those lines to indicate directionality.
The code which turns the lines off and on looks like this:
function togglePoly(poly_num) {
if (document.getElementById('poly'+poly_num)) {
if (document.getElementById('poly'+poly_num).checked) {
gpolys[poly_num].show();

im not sure now to word it, or how to do it, im a php coder not a javascript -.-but here it is, basicly i have one ajax file and wish to use it for everypage,i tryed to do it so i can just call one function for all ajax uses, but forms seem to be thowing me off when i call it, i stat if its a form or a element,
function ajax(str, b, c) {
a = b;
type = c;
if (type === 'form') {
[code].....
in this, the variable a is set as the id of the elemnt/form, it works fine for elemnts, but not for forms,i think this is because its thinking a is the id, not the variable,

I have this loop:
for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) {
gmarkers[j].hide();
elabels[j].hide();
map.closeInfoWindow();
[Code]....
which was useful for passing the p variable when it was just one number.
but now I need to get that number every time j gets set (I understand that the j gets overwritten each time the loop goes through).
What would be ideal is if p could become an array, the contents of which match the values that j has passed though during the loop cycle.
I thought var p = new Array (j); minght do the trick, but obviously not...
