Mar 31, 2011i am thinking of using a xml file as a data base for example , the xml file stores a list of reference numbers which is allocated to a url or a name such as 0123456789 and i have a text box on a webpage and the user types in a reference number and the javascripts reads the xml file to check if its a valid reference number i.e a registered number i am new to working with xml etc.

Jul 25, 2011I am doing a few tests with javascript and oop. but one failed so i falled back to the way i usually do this but it still isnt working properly. i am using $.post() but instead of returning whatever is echoed in the php file like it does with all my other scripts it returns the content of the file:
Isnt returned in var data but the whole file is returned as a string.

May 4, 2010I think I have a varialbe scope problem here, but I can't figure it out. What I'm trying to do is extract a piece of data from a JSON file using a variable established earlier in the script as one of the keys.
When I run this script I get the alert that lets me know that the variable "theMappableItem" has been established correctly. I click "OK" in the alert box. Then in my console (in firebug) I see a line showing that the .json file has been gotten successfully. Next in the console is an error that says:

JQuery :: Saving A Data Structure To A File?
Mar 1, 2011I have a JSON data structure that I'm pulling in VIA an AJAX call. What I want to be able to do is click a button/link and be able to save this data structure to disk, but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I've been experimenting with the following:The link has the following format "<a href='data:application/json, " + data_structure + "'>Click here!</a>" I've been able to replace data_structure with text and /json to /rtf, which gives me a pop-up 'SaveAs' dialog box, and when I open the file, it has my text in there. However, if I do data_structure, I just get [Objectobject], which is telling me that I'm passing in the object, but that's basically it, I need to expand it out? I'm not really sure how to do that...Which leads me to calling a perl script. So I make an ajax call like so:

I just don't know how to get the data of an xml file, does the $.get method not work with xml? When I try it with an .html file it works.

Nov 3, 2011I'm loading a (HTML) list from mySql via PHP into a main page using load. The main page is linked to a css file and a js file (jquery). The loaded data assigns the css file BUT does not seem to be able to find the js file as the click handlers in that file do not work. I'm new at this and this is probably a BASIC issue.

Jun 29, 2011I have got my ajax file calling the php file properly and executing some code in it, but nothing will get returned with json_encode().
Right now I am skipping form validation and just trying to get a response back of any sort:
Currently my site just shows the 'processing...' string but will change my css class to indicate a sucess.
Here is my ajax calling the php file:
When I change .html(data.msg) to something like html("<p>hello world</p>") I get the string back. So this line is working, but just not recieving 'data.msg' from my php file.

Sep 13, 2010I am attempting to do two things and I'm missing a vital element: ajax call to an XML file to be inserted onto a page, FOLLOWED by selecting these newly created elements to apply event handlers on them. I am near certain that the problem is that the selectors are not 'seeing' these elments and it's an issue of running the event handler only AFTER these elements have been loaded.
How do you do this? I already have a $(document).ready(function() { in order which I naively thought would take care of this exact issue...

I am going to use it either way, but from a cutting edge stand point, is JSON looked at a more cutting edge since it loads faster. 2. And for that matter is anyone using css3 and E4X? All these seem to require the latest versions of all browsers. Since my goal is to be cutting edge I was thinking to do some stuff in the above listed that require only the latest browser if it is detected, if not use what works in most all browsers? What are cutting edge web app developers really doing at this time?

Oct 1, 2010I am doing a JSON request to get data back from a PHP file. On the return of that data, I am using a for loop to go through the data and post it up using JS. Here is my code:

Now, what is happening, because there is 10 entries being posted, my JS is looking at the class that is being put together (main-armory button) and making it so that class appends every run through. So, I want one entry for main-armory button and I am getting this:

And then, when it goes down to the next entry, it has 9 spans, and then the next entry has 8 spans, and it continues all the way down. What is going on here that I am missing? I know that I am not clearing a variable properly or something is wrong within my loop.

I have that working, with each item formatted the same way on the page What I'd like to do now is alter it a bit to make the most recent (the item listed on the top of the page) formatted differently and the rest of them as it is now.
