JQuery :: Using A Selector With .load() Doesn't Execute Script?
Sep 30, 2009
I'm trying to load one page into another using the .load() method. This loaded page contains a script that I want to execute when it has finished loading. I've put together a simple example to demonstrate:
Index.html:
<html>
<head>
<title>Jquery Test</title>
[Code]....
When the link is clicked, the content should load and the second paragraph should fade away. However it doesn't execute. It is not just a matter of the DOM not being available, a simple alert("") won't execute either. However, if I do away with the #toLoad selector in the .load() call, it works fine. I am not sure why this is, as the <script> block is clearly in the scope of the #toLoad div? If the script from content.html was in the .load() callback, it works fine. I have worked around the problem by having the callback use .getScript () to load "content.js" afterwards and have the JS logic in there. This is arguably a more elegant solution anyway, but I'm keen to know *why* the above doesn't work, is it a bug?

I have a problem with a jQuery selector that works in both Firefox and Chrome but refuses to in Internet Explorer.
The jQuery line looks like
$('a[id*="show_ingredients_link"]').click(function(){
var id = this.id.replace("show_ingredients_link", "");
(".ingredient_row" + id).toggle(); return false;
});
Which is trying to select a click on the following bit of HTML (this is a Django template)
<a href="#" id="show_ingredients_link{{ i.id }}">
(Customise)
</a>
The intent is to toggle the visibility of some table rows that exist just below the (Customise) link.
I can tell this is a selector problem by adding an alert(); in the click function which isn't fired in IE.

<div class="c"></div>
I do $(".c:not(:last)").css({borderColor:"#0f0"}) This is OK in Firefox, but in IE all columns get this color. The :not selector doesn't work in IE. Why not?

I'm using jQuery with Google jsapi and some strange problem occurs:
google.load("jquery", "1.4.2");
google.setOnLoadCallback(function() {
test();
});
[Code]...
When I run this code, alert returns null, not array. The same with any element, f.e. "#element". Why it doesn't work?

I have a problem hiding elements after ajax respons.
I have a JQuery script:
$(function() {
$(".tab_content").hide();
$("ul.tabs li:first").addClass("active").show();
$(".tab_content:first").show();
[Code]....
onClick event binded on <li> tag with live() works fine. But I need to hide some tags immediately after ajax call. The jquery script is included together with some HTML code in returned HTTPrespons content data. Is it possible to do this without setting css display:none property?

FF, Safari, Opera all execute this javascript code to refresh the page properly, but in IE version 8.0.6001.18904 the page doesn't seem to refresh on click of orange_refresh button. I have checked out a different version of IE8, don't recall exact version, but it did seem to work fine in that one, whatever version it was probably the latest now that I think of it. Check out code below any sug.'s could be helpful, though its probably a bug..
<a href="javascript:document.location.reload();"
onmouseover="window.status='Refresh'; return true"
onmouseout="window.status='Page Refreshed'"><img src="image/orange_refresh.png"
width="30" height="30" border="0" /></a>

I have a function defined in my document's <head> section which adds a <script> tag to a specified <div> tag. The added <script> has a src="" attribute pointing to a PHP file, which dynamically returns JavaScript. In Safari, the src file isn't downloaded. Neither is any code contained within the new script tag [such as alert()]. In IE(6) and Firefox, this works as expected. Here's my code:

What to return from my functions. Initially I was returning true or false to indicate success. But really, true only indicates that the function completed, not that it successfully did what it was supposed to do.
Try/catch is pretty useless as the browser tends to ignore most errors and so doesn't execute the catch clause in a consistent manner.
I notice libraries tend to return an object reference, which would be undefined on failure.

I try to load specific text from a page into a string. When I'm on the specific page I can do this as follows: var wantedText = $("td > span[style='color: #00AA00; font-weight: bold;']").text();But I want to get this text from another webpage using AJAX, I tried using .load() as follows:
$('#somediv').load(Url+" td > span"); //this loads 3 spans into #somediv (including the one I need)
$('#somediv').load(Url+" td > span[style='color: #00AA00; font-weight: bold;']"); //this does nothing
I also tried loading the entire page into a string using .ajax() like this:

I have been trying to work my way around this issue for some time now. I am trying to stop a marquee from scrolling as soon as the page start to load not after. I have been using this to pause the marquee with JavaScript but the command does not execute but after the page loads; after all the html loads.
This is the JavaScript:
Code:
<script language="JavaScript">
window.onload=function(){
myMarquee.stop();
}
[Code].....
With this code the marquee does stop but after the page loads completely so as the page loads the marquee start to scroll and then stops as soon as the page finishes loading but with the first image of the marquee have way out. I need to be able to load the marquee 100% stopped as the page loads so then I can use the buttons I placed to control the marquee.
My question is:
Is there ANY way to completely stop the marquee from scrolling as soon as the page loads??
how to scroll the marquee by click; meaning by every click of the mouse the marquee moves either left or right, would be even better. p.s: Noted that this code does NOT work in FF for some reason. The stop does not work and the buttons don't respond. why in FF they don't work but in GC and IE they do?

I'm trying to load some html content into a page via the ajax .load() method (wrapped within the $(document).ready() function).After I execute this, I'd like to bind all new span elements from the loaded content to a context menu plugin like this:
$("#selector").contextMenu({
menu: ''myMenu''
},
[code]....
Unfortunately since the span elements are coming from the ajax request,I don't think I can bind a normal event handler as per the plugin. [URL] how to use event bubbling in this situation.

I am loading a list of answers give by a specific user into a tab panel. To do this I'm using the following code: $('#questionBody').load('dashboard/questions'); All the html elements not from a loop such as a header image show up fine but the list of answers looks like it's displayed similar to when you use print_r() on an array. Is load() the proper function to use here?
here's an example of the output:
{"status":200,"data":{"questions":[],"params":{"page":false},"user_answers":{"13":{"flagged":"0","regdate":"1282869034","id":"13","qid":"9","body":"an answer of course...","payed":"1","question":{"id":"9","title":"test","body":"test","uid":"1586","permalink":"/question/view/9"},"status":"complete"},"11":

Here is what I have for an ajax call
If you are not familiar w/ CF - the double octothorpe is simply to escape istself
Ok - if incNotes.cfm simply contains some text - the text is output in notesDiv as expected.
If the incNotes file simply says to dump a query - it does so as expected
If I say to dump the url variables - then the url variable ID is blank. It simply does not populate.
Here is the incNotes.cfm file....

It works fine in all browsers except ie(6,7,8) Internet Explorer can not open website. Operation Aborted. I understand it is caused by the jquery autocomplete function loading before the page / DOM has fully loaded. I tried adding Defer="true" to the script however this doesn't seem to work. what i must add to the script so that it loads after the dom has fully loaded?

I have got the following problem:[code]I create a new image and want to fire a function, when the image is loaded. This works the first time I load the Image in IE. To my mind the image seems to be in the cache now. When I want to want to open the image the next time in the browser, the load function does not fire again. In all the other Browsers this works, but not in IE9.Is there a way out of this misery?
