JQuery :: Stop Function - How To Make Dynamic Menu Using Library
Apr 1, 2010
I'm having trouble using the stop() function. I'm trying to make a dynamic menu using jquery library. This menu is now working pretty correctly but I can't manage the problem of multiple queued animations. My menu is made in two parts. The first one contains buttons. When they're hovered over, the second level of the menu appears just underneath. But when several buttons of the first menu are hovered over, I can't stop the second level to appear and disappear anarchically. Here is an example of code of the second menu :
<div class ="menu_deroulant">
<!-- ######## Menu Déroulant niveau 1
|| Accueil ####### !-->
<div id ="menu_deroulant_accueil">
<div class
="nom_speedbarre"
>Accueil</div>
<ul>
<li ><a href="***.php" .....

My first question is about whether I should use a library like jQuery for my events and other stuff in javascript. I guess I sort of feel guilty because it makes things easier, and I should be learning the hard way without jQuery. When coding websites professionally, do designers use jQuery and other libraries? Do they make the page run slower? I feel like I'm taking the easy way out...
My second question is more of a re-assurance issue. I see all the glorified ads about how you can easily make your webpages with these wonderful programs. They're not going to but HTML jockies out of business, right? I just don't want to learn a language that won't be useful and have a demand in the job market. I'm probably just worrying too much and I'm sure the programs aren't as great as they say they are.

I'm trying to build a menu with an animation color and my problem is that the funtion is apply to all the links in the menu but ideally I would like to apply to all elements less the one with the id current.
at the moment I just created two functions but still apply both of them to the current link.
Here is the code:
<script type="text/javascript">
// font color animation
$(".second a").hover(function() {
$(this).animate({ color: "#00aadd" }, 400);

I am using GreaseMonkey to load jQuery 1.3.2 (there is a bug with the latest version of jquery and GM) and jQuery UI 1.8.0.I am using jQuery via GM to manipulate the GUI of a content management system. This CMS uses its own JS library to dynamically add stuff to the dom.
Question:How can I target a dom element that was added to the dom via this other JS lib?In other words, the CMS will add a div to the dom, and I am not sure how to tell jquery to wait for these elements to "be there" before applying the jquery goodness. Specifically, I would like to do this:
$(function() {
$('#zen1227').resizable();
});
But "#zen1227" does not "appear" until later via this other JS library.

My table columns are sorted by the Tablekit library [URL]. The user can click the columns to toggle the sort order either ascendingly or descendingly. I can save the current sort order (preference) in the server. After the page is refreshed, the web page is sorted by the original sort order. How to make the Tablekit library to sort with the current sort order after page refresh? My web page column is:
<th class="sortfirstdesc" id="urgency" onClick="reverseOrder($sortdesc)">ID</th>

I have a background that is a shelf full of books, I wanted to figure out what I would need to do in order to make a random number of books pop out on mouse over (individually), and upon click have the book pulled out and be flipped through and read like a book. Would I have to recreate the library picture completely to make the random books moveable? And would I have to create the books that I want to move from the bookshelf?
how to pull the book out from the book shelf so that it looks like it's coming towards me and then to make it look like it has been pulled out. Would I need to use animation for this? What would be the parts to the animation required?
A little background on my knowledge of javascript: I understand the concepts of it and can understand it when I read it or its explained to me. I am looking to create something as simple as I can, I thought having a background and something basic like a few books be able to pop out. When I realized css couldn't do this and css3 wasn't supported by most browsers I turned to javascript and have been trying to figure out the steps I would need to do to do this specifically.

I've installed the jQuery autoscroll [URL], for my web page. I'm using it in a div tag for a news feed. The problem is that it is looping. Is there any way to make it stop at the bottom? And if its possible, is there any way to make it being able to scroll upwards again?

I have a rotating banner that cycles through all the images I load in. But I want the banner to stop on the last slide instead of going back to the first slide again.
At the moment the code I'm using to scroll through is:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#slider').cycle();
});

I'm not having this issue with Mozilla Firefox, but it seems that the results of the code below are being cached in EI 8. When the browser makes another asynchronous call to the server with different results from the database, those results are not being displaying on the wepage. How do I fix this problem. As I mentioned above the code works fine in Mozilla Firefox. The page displays data in EI 8 with no errors five seconds after the page has loaded, but as the information in the database changes, I'm not seeing those changes reflected on the page in 5 second intervals.

I'm writing a flickr API driven match game like program right now and I'm running into a lot of issues where one button needs to fire off 5 actions but Js starts executing action 4 while 3 is still going and then I get some nasty bugs. The first example is this piece of code:
this.cardFlippedImg.src = 'http://farm' + this.farm + '.static.flickr.com/' + this.server + '/' + this.id + '_' + this.secret +'_m.jpg';
//handle image centering

I'm trying to create a dynamic menu where a user selects one item and another select list is shown, then another and another (and so on). Here is my JS, it *should* be taking the ID of the div, comparing it to the selected value and then showing another div by settings it's class property to visible:

I actually want to make a horizontal drop down menu with a sub menu.As far as I have researched, I think that it can be done by JavaScript. I have searched for some java scripts but they are very long and complex.
That made me wonder that for a funcitonality like a Drop down is so complex?
So here is my question : Is there any JavaScript that can be applied for drop down menu exclusively? Which just presents logic of drop down solely?

Is there a function to tell jquery to only do something on the first instance that matches then to stop. For example I add a class to a LI to an UL with the below but it adds the LI to all ULs under it.
$("div#container ul").prepend("<li>Home</li>");
Original code:
<ul><li>
<ul><li>item</li>
</ul></li>
</ul>
Code needed:
<ul>
<li>Home</li>
<li><ul>
<li>item</li>
</ul></li></ul>
Currently Output code:
<ul>
<li>Home</li>
<li><ul>
<li>Home</li>
<li>item</li>
</ul></li></ul>

I'm new to JQuery and would usually do more research before posting, but I have a demanding client that wants results, I have a dynamic CSS/JQuery menu that is part of a WordPress theme, and I would like to be able to set the menu to automatically size itself to the longest menu item or sub-menu item. The menu in question is at: [URL].. under Solutions.
[Code]...
Lets say for simplicity's sake that I will make the first menu option the longest, and the rest of the menu width will be based on that width. How would I do that? Would this even work on the fly? I already have an easy CSS solution but it involves changing the width property every time the longest item changes.

I'm trying to make this menu go up and down when the arrows are clicked. Right now, it shows all of them and I can't figure out how to make it so that it only shows the first 9 and will show the rest in the menu when it's clicked. I really don't know where to start. I found some scripts but they turned out really funky. Even if it's something super simple is cool, just where to begin??
