JQuery :: Plugin - Function (Prototype) Test Unknown
Jan 8, 2010
I want to write a plugin, say 'myPlugin' which I can use like
Code:
$('#myID').myPlugin() ;
$('#myID').myPlugin.test() ;
The plugin I wrote looks like
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
This works and it doesn't work. It works because test() is called, but this is not the element with id '#myID' it is $.fn.myPlugin. To fix this I tried the following
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.prototype.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
but now the function 'test' is unknown.

According to ECMAScript, the root of the prototype chain is Object.Prototype. Each object has an internal property [[Prototype]] that could be another object or NULL.... However, it also says that every function has the Function prototype object: Function.Prototype, it confused me, because a function is an object, for a function object, what is its function prototype and object prototype..For example:
var x = function (n) {return n+1;};
what is the relationships of x, Object.Prototype and Function.Prototype

I am trying to get to the bottom of javascript object, prototypes etc. I have a fairly good grasp of it, but I get confused the closer I get to the base object.prototype. FIrst of all, I was under the impression that all objects descend directly from Object. But some objects (like Array) seem to inherit properties and methods from the function.prototype. So does this mean that the chain is like this:
object -- function -- array Second, I noticed (on the mozilla javascript reference site that object.prototype inherits properties and methods from function.prototype and vice versa!? How can this be? I must be missing something important about understanding the chain?

I have a slideshow plugin and there is a function in it called stopAutoplay(). This is called when I click on the pre-defined pause button in the slideshow, so it stops.
If I switch between the slideshows(Slideshow 1 2 3) the slideshow is getting messier and messier because it starts many slideshows at the same time and the plugin gets confused what to show.
I figured if I click on the pause button before I switch to another slideshow it works fine. Therefore what I would like to achieve now is to call stopAutoplay() somehow before I switch to the new slides.
How can I call stopAutoplay() from the html file when I click on one of the slideshow 1 2 3 buttons?
I've tried the codes in green below but they don't work.
fadeSlideShow(); plugin pause function part:
stopAutoplay = function(){
clearInterval(intval);
intval = false;
[Code]....
If there is a better solution let's say to kill everything before the new slideshow appears it's even better. Although I've tried die(), empty(), detach(), remove(). I hoped remove() would help cause as I read it's suppsed to remove everything but for some reasons it doesn't...

I need to know how to add an event to a button. The specific issue is that I want to add an event which is a prototype function of a class. Consider the following as an example:
MyTestClass = function() {
this.firstName = "Pete";
this.lastName = "Johnson";

I'm using the standard module pattern and the problem is once you set a private variable, trying to test that object independently becomes a nightmare as the next test is polluted by the actions of the previous.So, the options are to have some reset method (which is horrible), setters on everything (defeats the point) or delete object and re-load script (hideous).

is there a way in jQuery to bind variables to function calls similar as prototype.js does it? See [URL]
E.g. in the slideUp method of jQuery you can specify a callback that is called after the effect has finished. I would like to bind a variable to this call so that it is used inside of this callback as a closure.

I coudn't understand some behavior of RegExp.test function.
Example html code:
----------------
<html><head></head><body><script type="text/javascript">
var r = /^https?:///g;
document.write( [
r.test('http://a'),
r.test('http://b'),
r.test('http://c'),
r.test('http://d')
]);
</script></body></html>
---------------------
The page displays true, false, true, false. (in Opera, Firefox and IE)
This is strange because I expected it would display true, true, true,
true. There must be something I didn't know about the function
RegExp.test.

I am creating a simon says game, the game is based on 4 images (each has an opposite) when the game begins one of the image randomly flashes, the flash is between itself and its opposite (day and night). the user is then to mimic that flash by clicking on that image. If he clicks in that image then i want the move to be correct or 'true' if he clicks on another image i want the move to be incorrect 'false'. if false he will be redirected to an alert box thats says game over, if true then 2 of the images then flash as opposed to only one, again randomly. I am unsure how to test if it is correct or incorrect and then if correct get 2 of the images to flash randomly and so on. Can anyone help? please? here is what i have so far:

why the string comparison test doesn't work in this javascript function? It works if you use just text between the currentItem div tags, but not when you use html for an image. I even tried to use iso characters instead of angle brackets, as in "<img src=expand.png></img>" and still no dice. Why not?
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
<script language="JavaScript">
function toggleValue()
{
if(document.getElementById("currentItem").innerHTML != "<img src=expand.png></img>")

Array.prototype.each = function (fn) {
this.map(fn)
}
This is my each function that works great in every other browser but IE. UGH! What am I doing wrong? the error points to the this in the function. Is it that IE doesn't like map? Has anyone seen this before? I thought my code was correct. Works perfect in FF, chrome and opera. the canvas text doesn't work in opera, but it does render the features so the each function is working.
I'll post the code if needed, but it's huge. here's the script running.[URL]..

I found this code on Internet:
<script type="text/javascript">
Array.prototype.push = function() {
var n = this.length >>> 0;
for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) {
this[n] = arguments[i];
n = n + 1 >>> 0;
}
this.length = n;
return n;
};
</script>
Question 1: How to call this function?
Question 2: When I delete >>> 0, what I lose? ( >>>0 ı sildiğim zaman, ne kaybederim?)

Not sure if this is possible, but I have an external script that creates an object, and I want to overwrite some of its functionality, but keep the scope.
Here is a basic example:
Code:
<script>
Obj = function (userConfig) {
this._init(userConfig);
[Code]....
I want it to log two Objects, but instead I get two window elements. Is this because I am declaring the functions in the global scope, and not from within the object?
Anyway I can keep the scope of the object, whilst still overwriting the function?
