Prototype Focus Function Not Working Without Alert
Apr 19, 2010
This JS code is on RoR+ImgMap site.I've tweak several portion of ImgMap, specifically around line 2205 of the file imgmap.js by adding code.so that when the user draws a shape, the focus will be set to the respective href field, instead of the default behavior - adding new row(imgmap form).

In the below code, the alert message returns in one instance: 'someAnimal is [Mammal "Mr. Biggles"]' I don't understand how this is possible. We pass as an argument 'Mr. Biggles' to the Mammal constructor. Then assign it to the object name property. But then it ends there. There is a function called toString which will return the alert. But the toString function is not being called like this: alert('someAnimal is '+someAnimal.toString()); If it was like how it is above, it would make sense to me but now it makes no sense to me because I don't see where that toString() is being called - I only see that it is prototyped to the Mammal object.
Code:
function Mammal(name){
this.name=name;
this.offspring=[];
}
Mammal.prototype.haveABaby=function(){
var newBaby=new Mammal("Baby "+this.name);
this.offspring.push(newBaby);
[Code]....

retransform my XML with it, resulting in a neatly filtered table. It
works great, but as soon as I take out the alert, it doesn't do
anything anymore, seemingly. This is the function: Code:

According to ECMAScript, the root of the prototype chain is Object.Prototype. Each object has an internal property [[Prototype]] that could be another object or NULL.... However, it also says that every function has the Function prototype object: Function.Prototype, it confused me, because a function is an object, for a function object, what is its function prototype and object prototype..For example:
var x = function (n) {return n+1;};
what is the relationships of x, Object.Prototype and Function.Prototype

I am trying to get to the bottom of javascript object, prototypes etc. I have a fairly good grasp of it, but I get confused the closer I get to the base object.prototype. FIrst of all, I was under the impression that all objects descend directly from Object. But some objects (like Array) seem to inherit properties and methods from the function.prototype. So does this mean that the chain is like this:
object -- function -- array Second, I noticed (on the mozilla javascript reference site that object.prototype inherits properties and methods from function.prototype and vice versa!? How can this be? I must be missing something important about understanding the chain?

I have a simple form here with a function to validate it, but I have no idea where I'm going wrong. I'm very familiar with ActionScript and C++, so I get the coding aspect of it, but one thing I'm not familiar with is how exactly JavaScript and HTML communicate. The problem is that this form always submits, even if my function returns false...but I can't even see if it returns false anyway, because alert() doesn't seem to be working either.
Here's what I have for my HTML:

I have this code in a function.
[Code]...
Alert 1 is to check if the program enters the function. And it does in all browsers. But when it comes to alert 2, Firefox does not execute the alert. So I assume there is something wrong with firefox executing the onreadystatechange. By the way this is the code for initAjaxObject()

I have a web site where multiple html pages are opened at a time & messages are received or those pages are refreshed automatically using meta-tag.
what I want is whenever that page is refreshed, the particular html window should notify user (as user may have opened other html window), now notification could be by setting focus to that html window which is refreshed, but then this will distract & frustate the user as he was referring other html window. What I would like to do is make that window blink or some notification like yahoo or msn mail received. But I want this kind of feature in HTML/Javascript.

I found the precursor of this script online, I modified a few small things, I ran the results through jslint, I fixed the apparent errors, and then I formatted it. This is what I came up with:

if (thefield.defaultValue == thefield.value){
thefield.value = "";
}
}
function echeck(str){

I've got a strange problem in IE that I wonder if anyone has seen
before. Basically, I've got a two window scenario. The parent window
opens the child via window.open(). The child contains a form and
submissions are processed in the child window. When the child window
form is submitted and the results are returned, an alert box is thrown
up via setTimeout("alert(....)", 2000). For some odd reason, when
this alert is displayed, focus is transferred back to the parent
window with the alert box on top. When you press the OK button on the
alert, focus is transferred back to where it should be; on the child
window. This doesn't happen all the time. But it happens. Is there
something I can do to solve this mystery?

I have developed a widget. I am using the jquery core api. Im having a problem when the widget is used in a weebly site. I know weebly uses prototype and I am using the workaround:
var $j = jQuery.noConflict(); however there is still a clash of some sort. I think every prototype.js function is being called or something because the page is taking a long long time to load as there are many requests being made which look like this:

Array.prototype.each = function (fn) {
this.map(fn)
}
This is my each function that works great in every other browser but IE. UGH! What am I doing wrong? the error points to the this in the function. Is it that IE doesn't like map? Has anyone seen this before? I thought my code was correct. Works perfect in FF, chrome and opera. the canvas text doesn't work in opera, but it does render the features so the each function is working.
I'll post the code if needed, but it's huge. here's the script running.[URL]..

I found this code on Internet:
<script type="text/javascript">
Array.prototype.push = function() {
var n = this.length >>> 0;
for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) {
this[n] = arguments[i];
n = n + 1 >>> 0;
}
this.length = n;
return n;
};
</script>
Question 1: How to call this function?
Question 2: When I delete >>> 0, what I lose? ( >>>0 ı sildiğim zaman, ne kaybederim?)

Not sure if this is possible, but I have an external script that creates an object, and I want to overwrite some of its functionality, but keep the scope.
Here is a basic example:
Code:
<script>
Obj = function (userConfig) {
this._init(userConfig);
[Code]....
I want it to log two Objects, but instead I get two window elements. Is this because I am declaring the functions in the global scope, and not from within the object?
Anyway I can keep the scope of the object, whilst still overwriting the function?

I have a date validation function that I want to stay at the object I am
validating if there is a Validation error, but it always goes to the next
object.
The javascript:
function ValidateForm(me){
var dt=me
if (isDate(dt.value)==false){
dt.focus()
return false
}
return true
}
The html:
<input name="AbsentFrom1" type="text" size="10" id="AbsentFrom1"
onBlur="return ValidateForm(this)" />
I do get the error box in my other function (isDate) and it is doing the
dt.focus().
Why doesn't it stay there?

I have a form for inputting data to a database. One of the fields in the form takes a unique identifier which forms the primary key in the db table. I am using Ajax to check that the data entered into this field by the user doesn't already exist in the db - this is working perfectly!
When the user entered-data matches a record in the database table, they are warned of this in an alert window, and the data they entered is deleted, and the focus then automatically goes to the next field. What I want to do is return the focus to the same field. I'm using the focus() method but it doesn't work for me. Code:
