is there a way in jQuery to bind variables to function calls similar as prototype.js does it? See [URL]
E.g. in the slideUp method of jQuery you can specify a callback that is called after the effect has finished. I would like to bind a variable to this call so that it is used inside of this callback as a closure.
Is there an equivalent in Konqueror's KJS engine to Gecko's
__defineGetter__() and __defineSetter__() methods? Our web application
uses a ton of Javascript, written based on Internet Explorer's object
model as that's the primary platform that we're supporting. For
Netscape support we uses __defineGetter__() and __defineSetter__() to
emulate the many IE-only properties. I've tested our site using
Safari, and to my surprise, it renders perfectly. Alas, it's
completely non-functional. If it's somehow possible, I'd love to write
a similar emulation library for KJS so that our non-Windows users
would have an alternative to crummy Netscape/Mozilla.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two protoype
methods? They are extensions of Javascript's Function class.
Is bindAsEventListener just used to be compatible with IE's Event
model? I'm thinking the only difference between the 2 methods is that
bindAsEventListener passes the event into the function.
I want to know how I can practically apply these.
METHODS FROM prototype-1.5.0_rc1.js
Function.prototype.bind = function() {
var __method = this, args = $A(arguments), object = args.shift();
return function() {
return __method.apply(object, args.concat($A(arguments)));
}
}
Function.prototype.bindAsEventListener = function(object) {
var __method = this, args = $A(arguments), object = args.shift();
return function(event) {
return __method.apply(object, [( event ||
window.event)].concat(args).concat($A(arguments)));
}
}
According to ECMAScript, the root of the prototype chain is Object.Prototype. Each object has an internal property [[Prototype]] that could be another object or NULL.... However, it also says that every function has the Function prototype object: Function.Prototype, it confused me, because a function is an object, for a function object, what is its function prototype and object prototype..For example:
var x = function (n) {return n+1;};
what is the relationships of x, Object.Prototype and Function.Prototype
I am trying to get to the bottom of javascript object, prototypes etc. I have a fairly good grasp of it, but I get confused the closer I get to the base object.prototype. FIrst of all, I was under the impression that all objects descend directly from Object. But some objects (like Array) seem to inherit properties and methods from the function.prototype. So does this mean that the chain is like this:
object -- function -- array Second, I noticed (on the mozilla javascript reference site that object.prototype inherits properties and methods from function.prototype and vice versa!? How can this be? I must be missing something important about understanding the chain?
Using jQuery, how do I make a function to execute when users press Ctrl+Q? Or other combinations of Ctrl and a key.

When the window loads, I want a function to check all text fields with a certain class if there is a value. If there is no value in the text field the value 0 will be set to the field. So far this is my code, but it does not work:
$(window).load(function() {
$(".classx,.classy").(function() {if ($(this).val() == "") {(this).val("0")}});
});
I have created a drop-down menu using jQuery, here: [URL]. It works just fine, but as you can imagine, I want each drop-down menu to work independently of the others. I understand what's happening and why it happens, but am unsure of the best course of action. I need it to be dynamic, meaning we really never know how many drop-down menus will be on the screen; could be 2 could be 22? So how do we bind the function to each drop-down so they can work independently? Probably some different ways to skin this cat, but what is the best way? Here's my javascript: [URL].
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a function, function test [code]...
I want to bind this function for click event using $('#btnsave').bind("click",function(){}) in jquery
How can i do this?
I have some jQuery.ajax() calls. It'is all the same but success function and I'd like get less code by taking all ajax calls in the same function.But I need one additional parameter I am using later in the success function, for instance.My actual code is like this:
jQuery.ajax(myParam){
...
success: function(responseData){[code]....
But I can't manage to archieve that.
Lets assume I have the outer div ( class= outer) which has inside of it 5 inner divs (class = inner) and one button (id = buttonID).
I want to bind a click on the button. (DONE)
The button will call a function to fadeOut(5000) the divs. and then fadeIn(5000) (DONE)
If I press the button while the fading is happening then another fade "queue" will add to the one happening.
I want to unbind the click while the effect starts. (DONE)
I want to queue the binding to the button after the effect have ended. (NOT DONE!!!)
.queue() refers to an element while I have different elements.
.setTimeout is not an option because the time is not standard.
Can I do something like:
$('body').queue( function() {
function to select the divs and fade them
})
.queue( function () {
function to select the button and bind the click
});
I have multiple inputs with names like "price1","price2" etc. and they added in the document dynamically after a user event.
I want to bind a function to them so everytime a change event occur to each one, i can calculate the new price. I try to use $("input[name*='price']").each(function(index){}); but I can't to this with live method and combine the change event too.
How do I replicate this click action within abind('hashchange') function?
$("#menu > li > a").click(function() {
$("#menu > li > a.expanded")
.not(this)
.toggleClass("expanded")
.toggleClass("collapsed")

What is an equivalent TimeSerial() function of VBscript in the Java
Script??
I have two variables hour and minutes.
Timeserial(hour,minutes) returns the time hour : minutes.
But I want to do similar thing using the javascript .
I need to know how to add an event to a button. The specific issue is that I want to add an event which is a prototype function of a class. Consider the following as an example:
MyTestClass = function() {
this.firstName = "Pete";
this.lastName = "Johnson";
[code]....
I want to write a plugin, say 'myPlugin' which I can use like
Code:
$('#myID').myPlugin() ;
$('#myID').myPlugin.test() ;
The plugin I wrote looks like
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
This works and it doesn't work. It works because test() is called, but this is not the element with id '#myID' it is $.fn.myPlugin. To fix this I tried the following
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.prototype.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
but now the function 'test' is unknown.

I am trying to use the sortBy function in the prototype.js
library. Nevertheless, I can't work out what to include in the iterator
function. Can someone shed some light on this?
Array.prototype.each = function (fn) {
this.map(fn)
}
This is my each function that works great in every other browser but IE. UGH! What am I doing wrong? the error points to the this in the function. Is it that IE doesn't like map? Has anyone seen this before? I thought my code was correct. Works perfect in FF, chrome and opera. the canvas text doesn't work in opera, but it does render the features so the each function is working.
I'll post the code if needed, but it's huge. here's the script running.[URL]..
I found this code on Internet:
<script type="text/javascript">
Array.prototype.push = function() {
var n = this.length >>> 0;
for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) {
this[n] = arguments[i];
n = n + 1 >>> 0;
}
this.length = n;
return n;
};
</script>
Question 1: How to call this function?
Question 2: When I delete >>> 0, what I lose? ( >>>0 ı sildiğim zaman, ne kaybederim?)

View 8 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is possible, but I have an external script that creates an object, and I want to overwrite some of its functionality, but keep the scope.
Here is a basic example:

I want it to log two Objects, but instead I get two window elements. Is this because I am declaring the functions in the global scope, and not from within the object?
Anyway I can keep the scope of the object, whilst still overwriting the function?
This JS code is on RoR+ImgMap site.I've tweak several portion of ImgMap, specifically around line 2205 of the file imgmap.js by adding code.so that when the user draws a shape, the focus will be set to the respective href field, instead of the default behavior - adding new row(imgmap form).
