I've got a form with a textarea box, currently you can just type a message in the box and submit it, then it is added to a mysql database and shows up on a page I made for people to view staff memos.
I've been asked to add formatting options like bold, italic, underline etc. Unfortunately me and javascript have never really met so I'm quite stumped. I can handle the form processing with PHP converting [b] to <strong> etc myself but I need help with the actual user interface.
I am currently adding BBCode to my website, and I posted a while ago in this forum for a script that would add tags to my textarea when clicking an BBcode image. But my next problem now is that I need those tags to appear around selected text and at the mouse cursor if no text is selected. Currently all it does is just add the tags at the end of your sentence if you've written something in the textarea. Here is the code I use: function lolwut(txt)

I want to select the line of text ("Text I want to remove" - with no HTML tags around it) and hide it using CSS (or remove it all together, if I can). I have tried using insertAfter to put a start <span> tag at the start of the line, and insertBefore to close the </span> tag at the end of the line (so I can apply CSS display:none; to it), but clearly JQuery doesn't work like that.
Is there another way to get rid of this line of text?

I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed.
The trouble I am having is that I'd like to create an additional button that will insert some text (certain html tags to make their life easier, etc) - I got it to work, actually. The script executes and the text is inserted - but once the script runs and the page refreshes (or whatever it does), the text then disappears. The only way I can seem to get it to stay put is when I use "onmouseup" instead of "onclick" - which means that every time the user accidentally mouses over the thing, it inserts the text.
I want to start javascript for fun, so I gave myself an assignment to use a for loop that will display "Hello world!" 6 times in the 6 different heading tags. The problem I'm having is that I don't know how to display it in the remaining 5 tags. I have it in the first one.

i'm after some script to display some html depending on what is selected in a list box the html i want to display are checkboxes so it's more stuff for a form i'm using lotus notes, so i have to use javascript.
i can get it to display a checkbox if a particular item is selected but it won't show up in place, it loads a new page with the check box the only thing on that new page.

I need to have an alert message that has an exponent in it. The only problem is, the built in "sup" function javascript has merely surrounds the text with HTML <sup> tags, and sadly, they do not work in alert messages. I am using wordpress for my site and I would like to display images of my jewelry based on tags.I have 160 images total. Different kind of material, color, shape and type. . I want to have a default image load first when you arrive on the page, then that image will get updated based on what tag you select. Like with color, there is black, white, red and green. I am putting the finishing touches to a custom written (pHp) article editor to allow users to publish content on a website.I have basically finished the project, and I am putting the finishing touches in with jquery widgets, such as a word counter. I would also like people to be able to highlight a section of text, then have some custom tags wrap the text (much like on this forum when you highlight a word in the message box and hit the wrap button).I would like my own custom tags to be used, such as <span class='someclass'>some entered text</span> rather than predefined ones.
Is there a way to change html tags without touching the inner html? For example, changing all h4 elements to an h2. Maybe something like this? jQuery('h4').replaceWith('<h2>' + (this).html + '</h2>');
like for example i have text areas named upload1 and upload2when I click or add input on upload1 a drop down list below upload2 will not change, but when I add input on upload2 the dropdown will select "parts"
I have a system receiving an html document as an array of lines, an am inserting this into a div using .append().
If an html tag is opened in 1 line (array element) of the string, and not closed within the same line, .append() automatically closes the tag on the same line, though there is already a corresponding close tag later in the html string.
Minimal test code:

I've been programming in jQuery for some time now, and for the first time, I came across an issue where I am writing out the location of a TD with an ID="step" to get the innerHTML with html(). I receive a null value, but when I use td:first within the chain of elements, it works.Has anyone experienced this issue or have any idea why this is not working? I've tried other TDs with diffirent IDs within the same row, and the same null result happens.Is there a possible limitation to the numbe of IDs used within the chaining of the $() call?
