Does anyone know if there is an event that gets fired off when I select text in a cell of a table in HTML????
I know theres a onselect event but that does not work. I need this so I can run a JavaScript function.
I have a table that is populated row and column headers, and data of course, I need to convert one of the row headers to a href that will reference a more detailed report. I have already gotten the parent/child relationship needed to pinpoint the data in that one cell but I can't figure out how to change it to a href using javaScript.

The first cell in every row is defined as: echo("<td class='tdclick'><a href='#'>$fnum</a>"); When the td is clicked I need the function to be called. It worked before I created the table via ajax. The table does display properly and the column is underlined as a href. I believe that the first line of the function is the culprit but I can't seem to get it to work.

display the data in an alert box (this is just to see if I can access the

I also have a javascript code which is supposed to compare the value entered in a web form to that hard coded in the script and change the color to green if its below, amber if its equal and red if its greater than.

As you can see from my javascript, i am getting the elements by id (getElementById("color")). Currently, only the first <td> with id='color' is changing when the value is entered. How do I make the text in other table cells with id='color' change color when the comparison value is entered?
I'm using a text field to insert images into a table cell. I have 360 images. the text field uses the onkeyup to change the image. when I type the number 1, the appropriate image appears. But when I type another number, giving me say 17 nothing happens.
The function uses parseInt to access the value int the text field. I'm fairly sure the onkeyup function is not retricted the the first character typed. Why would the onkeyup not execute after the second character is typed?

The first onclick function (named colorChange) works, but the later does not.
I don't know why is that. I used this configuration before and it worked.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a project which requires a small portion from a large table of information to be displayed on a webpage (sort of like a magnifying glass). The display will be a table of fixed size (m by n cells). Some of the cells will be merged. When the table updates, different sets of cells may be merged.
It needs to be coded in HTML5, which I assume includes the use of JavaScript and CSS (The specs of this is rather unclear at the moment, so I'm going to cover all bases).
Anyhow, looking through the HTML5 and JavaScript tutorials, I found two ways to solve this problem. One way would be to have a script to parse out the relevant information, and have it output into a table (dynamically generating the HTML required).
The second way would be to have the script draw the table on its own in a canvas.
User events (such as arrow keys on the keyboard) will change the position of the focus (move the magnifying glass in a cardinal direction).
I hit a small snag with the first solution - Is it possible to update the table on the page (including changing the structure of it) without having to refresh?
I have an issue where I am trying to allow the user to click on a table and automatically copy a table into the clipboard. I do this with text using IE:

The Trouble with Tables is the HTML itself gets copied as opposed to the rendered table. I am probably looking at some other way of getting the code to the clipboard, but I am stymied. I can do it with images, but not with rendered HTML.

FireFox works fine with this code.
suppose i have a html page with text, links and what ever else a page contains. On selection of Text on the html page i want to raise some event that will do something. But what that event is known as? By text selection i mean placing mouse pointer to some text and left clicking and moving the mouse either to left or right. Now when user selects some portion of text and releases the mouse's left click button a event should be raised. Obviously that event should know what was the selected text. So is it possible ?

The user isn't clicking on the cell or the row or the table or anything like that. The table is dynamically built from the server side and I can't assign an id to either the row(s) or the cell(s), but I do have a table id and a table body id. How do you retrieve text given a specific row and column index?
