JQuery :: Cannot Make Function Run On "load" Event
May 2, 2009
i use jQuery 1.3 and would like to make the following code run as soon as the elements i am targeting have loaded (or as soon as the page has finished loading). At the moment, I can only get it to fire on an event related to the target (in code below i'm using "hover"). Ihave put this snippet of code inside the document .ready handler, which is where I assume i should put it (?):

I have the following code to load some pages into a div using the load function. When I click one of the links though, nothing happens. I have read a couple of books on JQuery and looking at the examples they give, this looks correct so I am at a loss.

I have a single webpage that contains information on all 50 U.S. states. There are 50 links at the top to jump down to the state you want, and at the bottom of the information for each state a Back to Top link.
I'm making the Back to Top link into something more complex, and it will require three or four lines of code.
So that I don't have to repeat the code 50 times, and create a burden when I need to edit it, I want to place it in a .js file and call it x. Then below the information for each state I'll simply have:
Does calling code from a .js file 50 times slow down the page load? Which method would load faster?

I have a real perplexing issue. In two separate "projects" I had code that displayed checkboxes - when clicked, they would fetch information from a db and display it in the div below. I'm using the Google AJAX APIs, but some reason google.load works when run through normal javascript, but if I call the method from my jquery ready function it doesn't work. Code and output is below
page.html
<script type="text/javascript">
loadGoogleStuff();
function loaded() {
console.debug("in loaded function");
}
[Code]...
window.loadFirebugConsole is not a function If I comment out line 3 in code.js, the console debug runs okay, so the ready function is running okay. Even though there's a reference to Firebug, the same error occurs in Safari too. Nothing on the page loads.

I have some contents on my page that are displayed on click or hover.Therefore, initially they are hidden using the hide() method.
They work fine as intended.
But if it is a slow computer, you can see them on the screen for a second or two before they disappear. Or if the user refreshes the page - you get the same thing happen. How can I prevent this?

I'm trying to make a list of tweets fade in and out progressively down the list. I'm pretty new to javascript and jquery, so I might be missing out on some basics.
1. How do I make the while loop infinite and loop around itself, because I'd like the tweets to loop around when it reaches the last tweet. I tried adding the if statement to make it go back to 0 but it hangs my page when I include it.
2. How do I make the loop not run altogether at once? I've tried queue() and putting in delay(4000) right before the .eq(n) so that it delays 4000ms before selecting the next tweet, but I'm trying to find a more elegant solution to it as the timing might be offset infinitely if there are changes in the timings.
var $j = jQuery.noConflict();
$j(document).ready(function() {
var tweet = $j('#twitter-3 .tweets li').length;
var n = 0;
while (n <= tweet) {
$j('#twitter-3 .tweets li').eq(n).delay(500).fadeIn(1000).delay(2000).fadeOut(500);
n++;
//if (n == tweet) {
// n = 0;
//};
};});

I am using jquery's click on a link to trigger an action. I am curious as to how to get it to work with a non-mouse user.If the user hits the spacebar or enter key while the link is tab selected, the function is not activated.I remember reading about using bind() but I can't find the article.

When a user clicks a button I dynamically load large CSS and JS files. I handle it in this way:
[Code]...
It works great, but the problem is that sometimes the dialog box opens before the CSS has loaded. I would like to add the equivalent of $ ("#example").load(), since using load() does not seem to work.

Code JavaScript:
var listItems = "";
$.each(msg.d, function(index, value) {
listItems += "<li><a href='#' class='" + value.Availability + "' title='" + value.Time + "' >" + value.Time + " - " + value.Availability + "</a></li>"
});
var teeTimeLinks = $(listItems + 'li');
$.each(teeTimeLinks, function() {
var link = $(this).find('a');
link.bind('click', function(event) {
event.preventDefault(); //stop the link from going to href
TeeTimeSelected(this);
});
});
The above code works. BUT, msg.d returns 80 objects. We then loop through it and make our list items. AND then we loop through it again and apply the click event. How can this be optimized into one loop?

i have a basic 2 column page, on the left is the navigation, on the right the content.i'm loading in the content with the load() method - some php generated html code which looks like this e.g.
<div id="container">
<div id="toggle">TOGGLE</div>
<div id="showArticles">
[code]....
so if i click on the toggle div.. nothing happens so i tried to put a <p id="toggle"> in the navigation bar which is static (not being load()-ed in via jQuery) and it worked so it seems to me, that jQuery can't get the click event out of the load()-ed page

I'm loading a list of elements into mydiv with ajax, I want them to be selectable so I call the UI plugin selectable after the list has loaded.
The list building function produces this:
<div id='mydiv'>
<ul id='mylist'>
....
</ul>
[Code].....
The problem is, every time I click the link to reload the list via ajax, I get a duplicate selectable event handler created. Should I be removing the old event handlers before reloading the div ? if so, how?
Everything works, as in selectable still works, and only seems to fire once but I get ever growing memory usage in firefox and an ever growing list of event handlers in the firebug script tab. Eventually firefox starts to crawl and I have to restart the browser.

I'm trying to load dynamically some content and I'd like to fire a function when all the newly added content (including images, iframes and scripts in it) are loaded:
var htmlStr='html string including images, iframes and scripts';
$("#contents").html(htmlStr).load(function(){
alert("all images, scripts and iframes are fully loaded, you can continue");
})
According tohttp:[url]....(at least how I understand it) this should work: Theloadevent is sent to an element when it and all sub-elements have been completely loaded. This event can be sent to any element associated with a URL,images, scripts, frames, iframes, and the windowobject.Unfortunatelly my function is never called. For the meantime I found a workaround:
var html=$('html string including images, iframes and scripts');
var elements=html.find("img,script,iframe,frame");
var loadCounter = elemets.length;[code]....

When I load my page I am using the .load() function to load a section of HTML from another .html file into the current page, as follows:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#login_js').load('_HTMLCodeLibrary.html #loginform');
On the very next line I am attempting to bind a submit event handler to the form:
$('#loginform').submit(function() {
$.post('member.php', $(this).serialize(), function(data, status) {
data = eval('(' + data + ')');
if (data.msg) {
[Code].....
The form is loading fine, but for some reason the submit() is not getting attached to the form. Therefore when I submit it is running member.php from the form "action". Ultimately, I want to be able to run member.php from $.post() so that I can tell member.php that JavaScript is enabled.

I'm trying to load some html content into a page via the ajax .load() method (wrapped within the $(document).ready() function).After I execute this, I'd like to bind all new span elements from the loaded content to a context menu plugin like this:
$("#selector").contextMenu({
menu: ''myMenu''
},
[code]....
Unfortunately since the span elements are coming from the ajax request,I don't think I can bind a normal event handler as per the plugin. [URL] how to use event bubbling in this situation.
