Image Rollover Fails Complete Unless First Function And Loop Are Exited

Apr 11, 2011

Code:

If I use the return keyword to exit the function/loop after they set up the first image rollover, it works perfectly on the first image. However, if I comment out the keyword, theId, which is the variable that contains the id of each respective image (which is the same id of the containing link with "1" added to the end) becomes "undefined" (as my JavaScript console says), and thus none of the images work as they're supposed to work. Not even the first one.

Image Rollover - Capture Event Action Without Passing To Function

Aug 3, 2011

I'm really just playing around, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible, meaning that I didn't want to just do the standard on mouseover/onmouseout event actions inline in my html. My attempt was relatively close, I just need a way to be able to capture the event action without passing it into a function?

Code:
<script>
var getTabs = function(){
var allTabs = document.getElementsByTagName("div");
for (var i=0;i<allTabs.length;i++){
if (allTabs[i].className == "tabs"){
if (allTabs[i].id == this.id){
if (this.onmouseover != null){
//alert("MouseOVer");
document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#465D77";
} else if (this.onmouseout != null) {
//alert("MouseOOut");
document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#1a3757";
}}}}}
onload = function(){
document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseover = getTabs;
document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseout = getTabs;
}
</script>

HTML Code:
<!-- Begin Tabs Container -->
<div id="tabsContainer">
<div id="tabGlobal" class="tabsActive">
Home
</div>
<div id="tabHR" class="tabs">
HR Edit
</div>
<div id="tabReports" class="tabs">
Reporting
</div>
<div id="tabData" class="tabs">
Data
</div>
</div>
<!-- End Tabs Container -->

Disjointed Rollover But Special Case Two Rollover States For Image?

Jun 5, 2010

I have navigation buttons that I'll call primary buttons. I also have secondary navigation buttons that I'll call secondary buttons. If you rollover a primary navigation button, it should make secondary navigation buttons 1,4,and 5 go to rollover state A. However, if you rollover secondary navigation button 1,4 or 5 they should go to rollover state B.So the simplest way I can explain it is that the secondary navigation buttons need two rollover states possible.

Dual Purpose Rollover (rollover Image And Iframe Change)?

May 11, 2010

Before, I had an iframe, and when I moused over a link outside the iframe, it would load a page into the iframe. Background image was part of the page loaded, as well as the text and what not. The problem was, the image took too long to load. I've been learning how to do javascript and I came across some code for preloading an image before the mouseover so there was zero wait time. For the past few days I've been trying to figure out how to have the preload image appear BENEATH the iframe (now with no background image or color) with the allowtransparency attribute set to true.

I've figured out the code to do both individually, i.e. I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the new image will appear; AND I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the page with load into the iframe. Both work, both do what is expected, but they don't do it together.Below is the script. Here's where it's confusing. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." first inside the if statement: the page loads into the iframe, but there is no image. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." after the "document.link..." commands in the if statement: the image appears but the page does not load into the iframe.

HTML Code:

window.onload = rolloverInit;
function rolloverInit() {
for (var i=0; i<document.links.length; i++) {
var linkObj = document.links[i];

Recursive Function With For Loop, For Loop Is Breaking When Calling Itself

Jan 22, 2011

I have been looking at this code for two evenings now, and rewrote it 4 times already. It started out as jQuery code and now it's just concatenating strings together.

What I'm trying to do: Build a menu/outline using unordered lists from a multidimensional array.

What is happening: Inside the buildMenuHTML function, if I call buildMenuHTML, the for loop only happens once (i.e. only for 'i' having a value of '0'.) If I comment out the call to itself, it goes through the for loop all 3 times, but obviously the submenus are not created.

Here is the test object:

test = [
{
"name" : "Menu 1",
"url" : "menu1.html",
"submenu" : [

[Code].....

'Menu 2' and 'Menu 3' don't show up! I'm sure it's something small that I'm overlooking.

Send A Loop Variable (i) To A Function Inside The Loop

Aug 4, 2011

I'm looking to send a loop variable (i) to a function inside the loop, but I can't seem to get it to use the value I want, it keeps making it a reference of i and therefore the function is always called using the last value of i rather than the one it was set with.

So if i have 5 Tabs then Tab 1, when clicked, should call DefaultTabClick(0) and so on rather than always using 4 for any of the tabs.

Change Image On .gif Complete?

Rollover Image Zooming - Display A Larger Image

I can use a rollover to display a larger image next to it, but I'm not sure on how to make the image move like that one does.

Calling Function From External Js Fails?

Aug 19, 2011

On my site I'm using an external (big) javascript file, in this external file there is a function with the following line in it:

function showslide(){
return(currentSlide);
}

In my main html file the external javascript file is loaded within the head section. This external file does a lot of other stuff besides returning a number.Somewhere in my html file I need to call the showslide function. I tried doing that with this:

<script language ="Javascript" src="upload/3weg_slider.js">
document.write(showslide());
</script>

But it doesn't return anything, when I place an alert line within the function it doesn't show up either.

Dynamic Function Creation Fails?

May 7, 2011

I have a small number of functions on an object and for every function I wish to make a different function that calls the original where the this can be passed as a parameter. I am making a library and this is a convenience method for people who don't know about call/apply.

Currently (one of) my function looks like this:

function _find(){
return find.apply(arguments[0],Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments,1));
}

However since my functions are in a object I was wondering if I could make a new array dynamically?

var func = {'find':find}, func_new={}; //this is just an example I don't have this part in my code
for(var attr in func)
func_new[attr] = Function('return '+attr+'.apply(arguments[0],Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments,1));');

Two Calls For The Same Window Function, But One Fails?

Aug 16, 2011

Two calls, one from a form and one from the html body reach the same 'window.open' function but only the former works.

The idea behind the simplified script of my post is to select to open one of two windows (files) by pressing one of two buttons. Each button passes a different parameter to the 'open/focus' window function. This function has an argument(arg) place holder to determine which window(file) to open(or focus) when a button is pushed and a corresponding string(argument) is passed. The window function is simply a double function,repeating the same if-else statements. That is, with the function(arg): "if(if-else) else(if-else)", the argument passed to 'arg' will determine if[to] {open else focus file1(button1)} else[to] {open else focus file2(button2)} in a new window.

Using a PC with either Explorer or Firefox, both the form button and the button coded in the html body opened a new window, but only the form button could bring the window forward(via 'object.focus') if it was already open. Using a Mac with Firefox, the form button worked well either to open or to bring forward an existing window, but the the button coded in the html body did nothing. Two 'alert' are place in the window function to show that the html button's call is reaching the window function. My question is that if this call from the html button passes through the same statements as that of the form button, why does it fail? (The script is in Perl, but it can be viewed as html in the source page.)

PHP Code:

#!/usr/bin/perl  -w
use CGI qw(:standard);use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser);use strict;
my $query = new CGI;
my $JSCRIPT=<<EOF;

Image Complete Property Prematurely True?

Apr 2, 2007

I've been playing around with some means of testing image loading, and noticing that the "complete" property seems to default to true. Trying the following in the squarefree javascript shell:

I = new Image();
I.complete

yields "true".

Seems a bit odd -- obviously there's no src given yet, so is it really complete? Is this behavior defined that way on purpose? If so, what's the justification?

What To Use Instead - Complete Property In FF - Gallery With Image Loader

Apr 27, 2010

I want to make a gallery with image loader. When image placed in JavaScript Image object finishes loading, the script includes it into HTML code and performs jQuery fadeIn effect on it.

The '.complete' property of the Java Script 'Image' object is perfect for this purpose(recognizing when image has finished loading) but the only problem is that Mozilla Firefox doesn't recognize this property and in this browser it's always true(always loaded) even if it's not. The script works perfectly in other browsers.

Does someone of you know what is the other way of recognizing whether the image finished loading or not?

Function Not Complete While Submit Of The Form?

Jul 28, 2011

I am trying to submit a JSP page .

I will describe in short the scenario so that it would be clear.

The Scenario

I have some input elements made up in a html component on JSP page.

The table has many <tr>. These <tr> have been given ids, for e.g. <tr id="1">.

Now I am trying to pass a comma separated list of these tr ids to server side code or Servlet.

The comma separated list is formed with looping some logic on submit of JSP or more specifically a form.

The Problem:

When I submit the form sometimes I do not receive the comma separated values mentioned above at server side code.

This happens occasionally. Now when I put some delay through Java Script like setTimeOut() I do not face the issue.

Is Java Script behavior a bit non-sequential sometimes?

JQuery :: IE9 Does Not Properly Support The Complete Property Of An Image?

Mar 16, 2011

Don't really think this is related to jQuery but I thought I would post it here in case someone else was having a problem. I have a plug-in I made that uses an image preloader involving the jquery .load() function. Once all images are preloaded, a function is fired to initiate the plugin.bIf the image is already loaded in the cache, the script checks the .complete property of the image to see if it is true, then manually fires the callback function for the load script. Here is the code:

It's actually working but when hovering fast over the different elements the hover state's mixes up ending ugly and wrong...

JQuery :: Delay Code Execution Until Image Preloader Is Complete?

Sep 4, 2011

I'm trying to build an image gallery and I want to shrink all the images a bit to allow for enlarging them on mouseover. I have it working fine locally, but when deployed to my server it doesn't work because the image files are still loading as the javascript executes. What I wind up with is the js using the image's alt tag's text size as the image size, which then gets resized to create a squashed image. What I want to do is preload all the thumbnail images before the the function to resize them gets called so the resize function has the proper dimensions of the images to do the transformation on. I'm using the jQuery.Preload plugin for my preloading functionality.

$(document).ready(function(){

[Code]...

My expectation of this code is that the enable_anim_resize() function will not be called until all the images are loaded, but I don't see any difference in this execution than if I just sequentially put in my resize code after the preload line and didn't use the onFinished callback for the preload method (example below:) $(document).ready(function(){ From my understanding of the documentation and examples of the preload plugin, the enable_anim_resize() function shouldn't be called until all images on the page are loaded, at which point the proper dimensions of these images should be available for correct resizing. Can anyone clue me in on what I'm missing here?

JQuery :: Image Gallery Slider Fails When Called From An External Html File?

Jan 18, 2011

I've followed an online tutorial and successfully created a gallery with a horizontal slide bar using [very specifically] JQuery versions 1.2.6.js and jquery-ui-full-1.5.2.min.js (since otherwise, it does not seem to work).After creating the gallery in the index.html, I decided to put all gallery and slider related scripts into a separate html file to be called with a PHP and ajax script. Here's the problem: While the slider [image] components as well as gallery images [in the slider] loads fine, the slider handler does not work anymore! You can see my problem when you select 'Gallery' from my website. Scroll to the bottom where the horizontal slider is and try moving it. 5%-10% of the time it works, for some odd reason.

I'm not sure what code to show here.. but below are the links I've established to the .js files. With the paths, since the index.html is doing all the calling, I wouldn't have to deal with any '../../*.js' type of paths in order to jump up file levels (this also proven since the images in the gallery are done without '../../' paths).NOTE: ALL of these scripts already work if implemented directly into the index.html. This fails when executed from an external html file

<script src="webpage/scripts/js/jquery-1.2.6.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
<script src="webpage/scripts/js/jquery-ui-full-1.5.2.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
