Each Time The Visitor Access The Page Read The Cookie And Display The Corresponding Image / Incrementing / Updating

Jul 12, 2011

My requirement: Each time a visitor arrives at a specific webpage i want the main image on the page to be different, or more specifically, one of 6 images which will be shown in rotation. Solution: Set a cookie. Each time the visitor access the page read the cookie and display the corresponding image. Then increment the value and rewrite the cookie, so that next time they'll see the next image in sequence. NB: if the cookie does not exist (first timer) or is at 6, then the value is set to zero (and then incremented).

Problem: Can't get my coding to work. Specifically it just doesn't do anything - no error message, no cookie written. I'm a very novice scripter, as in I've cobbled the coding together from bits off the net that i think i've managed to grasp some kind of an understanding of. Very suck it and see - so far lots of sucking and no seeing!

Recording The Time A Visitor Leaves A Page

May 2, 2010

I have a .Net website that uses a text file to record when visitors arrive on a page.

However, I really want it to also store the date and time that a visitor leaves a page. I can easily calculate the time spent on pages within a session but currently have no way of knowing how long someone spent on the last page they visited during a session.

What I need is a script that runs when a page is unloaded. The script will update a text file (stored in the htdocs folder of the site) with the current time.

So far, I have come to the conclusion that I may need to use JavaScript and the window.onbeforeunload event but I cannot get any further.

Set A Cookie So A Specific Page Can Access It?

just needed to know this because I'm setting the path of the cookie and the path on my browser isn't matching what I set it as.

var the_cookie="file_address~"+x+";path=gallerylogin.php";

...it still doesn't set it so "gallerylogin.php" can access it.

JQuery :: When Clicks On An Image - Visitor Is Taken To Contact Us Page

Jun 8, 2011

We have been trying to set up a procedure on our website so that the following happens:

When someone clicks on an image, the visitor is taken to our Contact Us page, the title tag is inserted into the Subject and they can complete the rest fo the form and submit.

We have about 40 pages of images, all of which have the ALT and TITLE tags completed. Each image has a description paragraph, and all pages are made using HTML and CSS.

We've seen several websites, although of course now we can't find them, that something similar occurs. Seems there was a jquery script that did this type of thing, but it would only work on the same web page and we want it to go froma category page (about 40 different image category pages right now) to the Contact Us page.

It is important that the name related to the image shows in the email form so we know what image they are referring to.

With our limited knowledge of javascript, we've not been able to insert the TITLE or ALT tag info into the form Subject so that it shows on the emailgoing to us. We've attempted onclick which now moves the visitor to our Contact page. We also can use the <a href as well.

Popup For First Time Visitor Only - Circumvent Blockers

Apr 22, 2010

I have merged two scripts to make a popup that comes up even if blocked, and is for first time visitor only (cookie). The problem is that the way I'm doing it, it might show one or more times to the visitor. I don't want that because it will be irritating and this is a high-priority client. I'm posting the whole script because I think the problem is calling the popup before checking the cookie, but not sure how to rearrange things.

Also, I did search and found some good dhtml stuff but don't want to rewrite. This was supposed to be done last night so if I can fine tune this for now, I'll have time to rewrite something better (or at least play around with another script). Also, the popup refuses to come up in IE - I have IE6, but I detest IE and their site doesn't even load in it so whatever. I tested in FFox3, Opera 10 and Safari and it seems to work but like I say because of the onclick - it will load at any click until the user goes to a different page. I added a refresh in there but it just made things worse - too much going on for the user at that point.

Monitor Time Spent On Site By Visitor?

Mar 16, 2011

I want to make a custom visitor tracking tool and like Google Analytics it must be able to track how long time visitors spend on each page.How do you recommend doing this?I thought of using the Javascript onload event to start counting time serverside and then the onbeforeunload event to do tell the server to end the time count. I'm just skeptic of an infinite visit duration if the visitor's browser for some reason doesn't call the event (ie power outage).

How To Read Cookie Set With PHP

Feb 16, 2010

I'm trying to read a cookie that I've set with php with javascript. The cookie is for storing the username when logging in to a site. If the cookie has been set I want the focus in the inline popup to target the password field so that the user doesn't have to tab down from the username field of the login form.

The php script stores the cookie perfectly:
if (isset($_POST['remember'])){
$expire = time()+60*60*24*30;
setcookie("login_username", $username, $expire);
echo $_COOKIE['login_username'];
} else {
if (isset($_COOKIE['login_username']) || isset($_COOKIE['password'])){
$expire = time()-3600;
setcookie("login_username", "", $expire);
}}

The javascript:
if (targetfocus == 'login_username'){
alert(readCookie('login_username'));
if (readCookie('login_username') == 'username'){
targetfocus = 'password';
}}
$("#"+targetfocus).focus();
...
function readCookie(name) {
var cookieName = name + "=";
var cookieArray = document.cookie.split(';');
for (var i = 0; i < cookieArray.length; i++){
var cookie = cookieArray[i];
while (cookie.charAt(0)==' '){
cookie = cookie.substring(1,cookie.length);
}if (cookie.indexOf(cookieName) == 0){
return cookie.substring(cookieName.length,cookie.length);
}return null;
}}

But when trying to read the cookie in the javascript code I receive null when I put an alert to the code. Why won't the javascript find the cookie? Is it because I'm running the site localhost on my laptop? Does that have an effect on cookies?

Cookie Not Being Read (path=/)

I can't figure out why I am not able to read the cookies sitewide, maybe it is the way I am setting the cookie but the cookie looks to be set correctly in the Firefox browser.

On the page that I set the cookie, it works. I can read the cookies I set on the same page as well.

If I move to another page to view the cookies it gives an undefined value when using the getCookie function.

IF the problem lies in the getCookie function, please explain the code a little to me so I can get an understanding what I missed.

Save Array In Cookie And Read It?

Oct 16, 2010

i have a table of images, with onmouseover,onmouseout and click events. The user can select and deselect an image. When an image is selected, the image scr changes.

Then the user can confirm his selections and redirect to another page for the checkout process. When he returns to the first and initial page, i want his selections to have a different image (lets say confirmed.gif).In other words to save his selections in a cookie and return them by changing the images so that they wont be available for selection.

In order to find which images are selected and store them in an array i can use the following loop:

function getSelected(){
var myArray = [];
var images = document.getElementsByTagName("img");
for (i=0;i<images.length;i++){

[Code]....

How i can save that array with the images tittles in a cookie, so that when the initial page loads i can find which images to change and then change the image.src to confirmed.gif ?

Updating A Text Field And Drop Down At Same Time?

Jul 17, 2009

I have a DB query that returns CustomerID, CustomerName, CustomerContact, CustomerSalesID. This Query populates a dropdown.

I need to have the Customer Contact applied to a text field and the customer Sales ID used to select the SalesRep from a different drop down when you select a customer.

Not too hard I'd think. I don't think I need to go as fancy as AJAX since I've already called the query when the page loads, that data is already there.

1. Image appears on the parent page in a specified ID.

2. A "hidden" field is updated so that when the user submits the db is updated with their selection.

3. Dialog closes automatically.

That's it. Basically it would work similar to "datepicker".I'm using the latest 1.4 and ui and been making great progress as learning basics. I need to do the above and it seems like such a no brainier and or it should already exist but after 2 days of searching and trial and error...

HTML File Takes A Lot Of Time To Read The Script ?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a very large tree data structure and I want to display some of its sections on a HTML page. I wrote the following JavaScript that loads parts of the tree dynamically injecting the desired HTML code.

Code:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/>[code]....

Each show_xxxxxxxx() function displays desired part of the tree on HTML.The problem is each time I load the HTML file it takes a lot of time to read the JavaScript (there are many show_xxxxxxxx() functions with a lot of HTML to insert).Is it possible to cache the loaded JavaScript into browser memory so it won't read the entire script when I reload the page with different content?
