I am using javascript code to change the background colour and font colour of some elements called 'filled') dynamically. For example:
if(timeInputValue >= startcode && timeInputValue < endcode && stateInput.value == "playing") {
filled.style.backgroundColor = '#ffffff';
filled.style.color = '#000000';
}
I also want to put a border around these 'filled' elements too - how can I do this is javascript? I can't find an equivelent to style.border = "1px"

My requirement: Each time a visitor arrives at a specific webpage i want the main image on the page to be different, or more specifically, one of 6 images which will be shown in rotation. Solution: Set a cookie. Each time the visitor access the page read the cookie and display the corresponding image. Then increment the value and rewrite the cookie, so that next time they'll see the next image in sequence. NB: if the cookie does not exist (first timer) or is at 6, then the value is set to zero (and then incremented).
Problem: Can't get my coding to work. Specifically it just doesn't do anything - no error message, no cookie written. I'm a very novice scripter, as in I've cobbled the coding together from bits off the net that i think i've managed to grasp some kind of an understanding of. Very suck it and see - so far lots of sucking and no seeing!

so I'm interested in knowing if there's a way through javascript, php whatever to be able to read the pages current URL. For example when the page loads and knows the difference between www.mySite.com/ and www.mySite.com/#aboutI'm trying to find if there's a way to use the '#about' as a variable for a particular script instead of just it being dummy text on the end of the URL.

I'm not really a Java writer, so I don't know how to do this myself, though I imagine it would be pretty simple. I am looking to add a script to a webpage that allows users to input a time manually, and have it converted to GMT/Zulu time and display the converted time. I have seen a lot of time zone conversion scripts online, but they all just convert whatever the current system time is to another time zone. I am looking for a script that allows users to convert a time and show the zulu time, for times other than the current time. The time zone the inputed local time would be in is +4:30 (Kabul). I don't really care about style or aestehtics, just a simple script I can insert into a web page to have a time input field. The converted output time can appear in another field, a popup bubble, etc, again style isn't really an issue. It's really just to help people in my job who need to know what the GMT/Zulu time was for certain local times after the fact. One would think it shouldn't be that hard to just subtract 4:30 in your head, but apparently it is.

Is there a way to obtain the DIV you are currently hovering over using Jscript?
Basically I have ten thumbnails that I'd like to change the borderColor for using onmouseover. Instead of having to specifically create a DIV for each thumbnail (#tmb1, #tmb2, etc.) and then having to attach a separate function to each one (document.getElementById("tmb1").style.borderColor = "#660000") I'd like to be able to detect the DIV the mouse is currently over and change the borderColor of that.
I have over thirty pages, each with 10-15 thumbnails, which is why I'm trying to come up with something more generic.

I'm creating a webpage that will display the status of various IT systems on a large screen. The users will be helpdesk staff who will need to change the statuses of the various systems. Maybe I am approaching this in the wrong way but I thought I could use a drop down menu to enable the helpdesk to select the system status which would be either: Green, Amber or Red. I have managed to hack the following code by using something I found on the web. It almost does what I want but on selecting the colour from the drop down menu it tries to load another page. Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? The webpage should be static and I am aware that reloading it would lose any selections that the user has made.[code]

I have this script which, on mouseover, shows a nested element of a class.
I want to add a snippet which, on click, changes the color of the class... maybe with a fast fade.
Does it require creating a second class with the new color? Something like:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.class').hover(function(){
$(this).find('.bit').show();
}); //existing script

I am trying to add some styling to the first word of all of my H2 headings.
Now obviously this would be very easy to do using a span, but let me clarify my situation.
I am working on a Joomla! site, so a lot of my code is read from php and sql files. I thus can't go and wrap my text in a span by hard coding it since it is dynamic and read from a database.
I thus decided that manipulating it using javascript will be the simplest. The only other chice is to write a php script that does pretty much the same thing, but I prefer javascript.
So here is what I am thinking of doing:
I want to select all of the H2 elements from my document, get access to their text content, single out the first word, and then wrap it in a span. The span will have a class, which will then simply be styled using CSS.
I though I was on a roll, but is seems that I have hit a snag. I am able to select and edit a single element with an id, but not all of the H2 elements in my document.
I was using 'getElementById' and assumed I could simply change it to 'selectElementByTagName' at some point.
I then used 'innerHTML' to retrieve and manipulate the contents.
Here is my code so far, and it work to some extent:
Code:
It seems though that 'innerHTML' does not work with 'selectElementByTagName', and I can't seem to find a similar command that does.
I also can't use ID's since I can't manipulate the HTML (at least not without scratching through a whole mess of php). Even then I need to manipulate various elements on one page, so ID's are no good anyway.
So my question finally is this: Is there a similar command I could use, or am I busy going in the wrong direction?

I want a set up some type of array/ IF statement within a textarea.
This is what i want it to do...
If textarea text = "[example]" then change colour of font #383838
I need it as a basic validation method to ensure the user has typed in the correct text. for example if the member uses { in stead of [ it will not turn a different colour and the user ill no they have not typed it in correct.
I presumed there would be some JQuery code out there that would enable this but I can't find it. ( or even know what search term to use )
