Creating Basic Data-driven Combo Boxes?
May 27, 2009
Here is the link to a page on my work web: -
[URL]
You will see that I have three combo box objects on this form - one containing dates (Date) and the other two containing times (Time1 & Time2). Each time on each date is an available appointment.
I would like the content of the date combos to be read from a file whenever the page is opened - a text file with one record per row would be fine (by way of an example - but this may be insufficient). On the face of it this would seem fairly rudimentary but I don't code in JavaScript of PHP and, having found this site I can make a start. I used to be a VB coder.
On each date the following appointment times are available: -
10:00
11:00
12:00
14:00
15:00
This assumes that no appointments on a given day are taken.This leads me to conclude that each date should have records for each time - possibly as a CSV text file as follows: -
"29th May 2009","10:00"
"29th May 2009","11:00"
"29th May 2009","12:00"
[code]...
The second time combo should make unavailable the time selected in the first time combo and present only those times available on the chosen date in the CSV file on the server.When I confirm appointments, at present I have to edit the page objects and update the web - which is quite messy and slow whereas uploading a simple text file, whilst an imperfect solution, is much better than what I currently have.
I believe that a PHP or Javascript routine based on events on the three objects would remove the inherent problems and would provide a useful set of building blocks for other routines of a similar nature.The routine would trigger whenever the page is loaded (or refreshed) or the content of any one of the three objects gets or loses the focus or a selection is made in an object.
The Date Combo would need to look up the available dates - keeping the currently selected date selected or, if that date is no longer available defaulting to the first date in the list. The user then makes a selection or makes no change to the selected date.The Time1 Combo then reads the available times for that date, retains the currently selected time (if available) or the first available time (if the selected is not available) and the user makes a selection or accepts the current selection.The Time2 Combo does the same as the Time1 Combo and in addition it eliminates the time selected in the Time1 Combo from the available choices.
The result is that visitors are only offered available times on available dates (insofar as this solution provides).When the form is submitted I would receive the email and confirm the appointment with the client and, in addition, I would modify and upload the modified data file to the web server using Filezilla. The benefit is that there is a slim to none chance of two people wanting to book the same times on the same date at exactly the same time (though it is possible). In addition, I can add new dates and add new times if there is a demand and I can even add previously deleted times if there is sufficient demand to warrant bringing in a second consultant to take the meetings.

Here is a very basic simulated editable combo box for quick and dirty uses.
After any text input on a form you simply add a...
<script>fancycombo("[inputid]combo","[inputid]","[option1]","[option2]","[option3]")</script>
You must give the input an id as well as a name. They don't have to be the same thing, but its recommended.
NS broke when I was cleaning up the code. Searching for the error.

So here is my problem...I've been banging my head against the wall for days with this one.How do you send data through the URL to be handled by a script in page.html, where page.html processes the data and dynamically displays the data in a modal. I can get the script to execute without trying to display in a modal, but as soon as I attempt to display in a modal, all I get is the static HTML without the jquery dynamic html.I know some code should be given, but if anyone could just walk me through the logic of why static html might be shown but not the dynamic, I think i can figure it out.

I have to write a web page wht three combo boxes, all three are to be
populated from a database. - there tables = Bulidings, Floors and Offices
The user will choose a 'Building' from the first combo, once it has been
selected, I need to populate the second combo box with the 'floors' of that
selected building. The user will then select the floor, which in turn will
then populate the office combo box for the user to select.

im need to create s simple CMS/WYSIWYG, but im not a pro on js. I found one on a website, but i dont want to resort to stealing codes.
basically, theres a textarea, where you put in text, and a button for bold, italics and underline, etc. if i highlight something on the textarea and hit the bold button, the text automatically gets surrounded by the <b></b> tags, or or whatevers convinient. when i look at the inline js code from the button, it calls a function, but id rather simplify the code, it should be something like onclick=insertstyle("b","textarea_name");

I will show u my code pages.
addcart.php
<?php
require_once("../Connection/connection.php");
if(!$_POST['img']) die("There is no such product!");
$img=mysql_real_escape_string(end(explode('/',$_POST['img'])));
$q_result=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM tbl_items WHERE item_photo='".$img."'");
$row=mysql_fetch_assoc($q_result);
$period = $_POST['period'];
$count = $_POST['count']; .....
$('a.button').css('display','block');
$('#cart-text').css('display','none');
}else// hide them{
$('#total').html('');
$('a.button').hide();
$('#cart-text').css('display','block');
}}
My problem is I want to update the totalprice div, when I change the value from the combo boxes. I just want to calculate the rate and the quantity and update it to the totalprice div. But now it is not working. I am retrieving the rate from a database using another php file shown in that script.js. All the values are retrieving and working fine. I use ajax drag and drop care script there. [URL]

I am looking to create a set of three combo boxes with around 15 options in each. If an option is selected in one of the three boxes, it is removed as an option from the others.
Dropbox Box 1 Options: 1,2,3,...,15
Dropbox Box 2 Options: 1,2,3,...,15
Dropbox Box 3 Options: 1,2,3,...,15
[Code].....
So if the user changes there mind before submit, it repopulates each box with the proper items.

I am creating a basic page for a client to allow them to update photo captions on their own. The test page is here: [url]
There are only 4 photos right now for testing, but eventually there will be 100's. The issue I'm having is that only the first image caption is being updated. If I edit the caption for photo #4 and click update, it appears to update, but it actually doesn't. Further testing shows if I change the caption for #1 and click submit on ANY other caption, it updates #1. This makes me think that the jQuery code is only referencing the first form.
I know I could use ID's on the forms and in the jQuery to differentiate the forms, however the form HTML code is generated with PHP and there will be 100's of them. Is there any way for jQuery to determine which form was submitted? I need to be able to tell which form was submitted so I can use that form's caption text to update the photo caption via SQL (photo info stored in an SQL database).
Here's the code from the page. The forms are generated via PHP:

As part of my form I have a box for the user to input the number of text boxes needed. I already have the page creating the textboxes but do not know the IDs of each text box. Once the user adds textboxes they can click add again to create more. If the user previously added 3 textboxes and now enters 4 I want the program to just add one more instead of 4 more.

I am keeping all the data of the markers in this XML file, I am dynamically loading the map information using AJAX from the XML file. Now what I want to do is to have a combo box, populate all the names of the combo box and when a specific location is selected the map will pan to the selected marker. Now the place I am stuck is that I cannot get the data names in the XML file to load into the marker. Basically I have tried various methods I searched on the internet that would be the last one I checked [URL]. Another one is that I used this line:
document.getElementById("tourName").options[k] = new Option(tourLocations[k][0]);
And some other methods also.

What I have got is a form that a user has to fill out and submit (when validated all variables are stored in a session and emailed after multiple forms are completed), currently I have radio buttons, text boxes and a combo box/ drop down list (for location). All parts are working fine and validating fine. My problem is to do with the combo box//ddl. I have successfully validated the ddl so the user must select a location onsubmit and it is added to session and passed fine.At the moment the ddl only has cities or towns in it however as I would like to include different states and possibly different countries I need a code that validates the state first and then only gives the cities/towns that are in that state (otherwise my ddl would be to large). I can do this with links however I can't seem to do it in a form.

I have two prompt dialogue boxes that ask the user the enter their name and their employee number.I am experiencing two errors. The first is, if a user enters their name incorrectly, using numbers for example, there is an error message that asks the user to re-enter their name using a string. If the user ignores the error message and enters a number a second time, the program accepts the entry, which it shouldn't.
The second error has to do with the employee number prompt. The prompt asks the user to enter an employee number that is equal to 6 digits, the program however accepts any number, less than or greater than 6 digits, which it shouldn't.I don't want the user to get away with entering anything incorrectly.
<script type="text/javascript">
// prompt the employer the enter the employee name and number
var employName = prompt ("Please enter the employees' name" , " ");[code].....

Im working on a backend panel where i populate a simple table with a few text boxes in there so they can update some values. I also have at the end of every row in the table an Edit, Delete & Save button. When i hit the save button i would like to update that entry in the database.
My Problem is that i need a value from the table before hitting a submit button, and the element names are dynamically created meaning ill likely need a variable sent from php to javascript and once i have the value in javascript ill need to send it back over to the php to manipulate and send to the server.
From wat i can gather using 'document.form.element.value' is the best way to go, hence why i posted this in javascript when most of my code is php.

i'm loading an external web page (i.e. google.com, espn.com) into
an IFRAME on top of a web application we have running in IE running on
a kiosk. the kiosk is only a touch screen and has no hardware
keyboard.
i'm looking to create a software keyboard that can be requested by a
click on our web application (a web page for all intents and
purposes). the windows accessibility keyboard would be ok, but when
opened from the browser you get the 'confirm opening an exe' dialog,
which ain't cool.
so next i was hoping make an html/flash keyboard
which would talk to the forms within the IFRAME via a javascript
layer. however i later found that javascript is not permitted to
access the contents of a document within an IFRAME loaded from an
external web site. so there is no way for javascript to directly
modify the text values of the form elements.
so now i'm stuck....i'm limited to solutions above the IFRAME
level...is there a way to programmatically mimic a keypress and send
it to the browser from within the browser? any other ideas?

I have an associative array that I need to loop through, allbills,
however, each element in this array requires processing by the user and
I need to capture the users actions on the element and then return to
the next element in the list but suspend looping until I have the users
desired action...
For example,
for(mybill in allbills)
{
GetWhatToDo(mybill); // gets the information about what user wants to
do with the currentBill
}
The problem is that the function "GetWhatToDo" doesn't "block" so the
loop completes without waiting for the users input from GetWhatToDo...
So, my thought was I need to design things more 'event-driven' and
handle things like so:
function handleABill() {
mybill=GetNextBill();
GetWhatToDo(mybill);
}
A "Next" button inside the popup generated by GetWhatToDo will have an
onclick event that calls handleABill again...
The problem is that I can't figure out how to write GetNextBill so that
it maintains the state of the loop through 'allbills', especially since
'allbills' is an associative array and I can't keep track of the array
index. The only thing I can think of is to initialize a regular array
from the associative array and keep track of the index number.

What I'm trying to do is create a document which allows you to select a size of box from a drop down menu, and then select a size of product to go into the box on a second drop down. The products on the second drop down menu will be allocated based on the box size that you've selected to make sure that you can only choose products which will fit in the box you've selected.
In order to do this I've set up a 2D array, which lists each product and which boxes they will fit in using 0 for no and 1 for yes. When you select a box size from the drop down a value appears in a text box next to it (1, 2, 3, or 4) and what I need to do is use the number which appears in this text box to pull data from the array to populate the next drop down list. i.e. If option 2 appears from the first drop down selection then the second drop down should be populated with data from column 2 of array (In this example 1212, 1515, and 2020 would be shown in the second drop down)
Im having trouble with the Java script to pull the values from the html text box in order to manipulate the array. If you look at the function 'top_biochill_addOption_list()' you will see that the second drop is populated here from row [itop2][3] of the array, which means the second drop down is permenantly populated as if option 3 had been selected from the first drop down. I need to get the value selected from the first drop down as a variable and replace the '3' in the above statement with that variable to get this to work but I have no idea how to go about that.
Hopefully all will become clear when you see the code. As I say, I am very new to Javascript so I'm sure this code is probably messy and inefficient, but with that in mind I'd appreciate replies being in simplified terms so I can understand what you're getting at, or if anything gets re-written then a brief explaination of whats going on would be handy so I can understand what the code is actually doing!
