Can't Pass Value Of Text Box To Hidden Field On Event
Mar 31, 2010
I'm trying to pass the data a user types in the multisearch text box over to the listheader hidden field before the form is submitted. I need it to work in all browsers. The below code only works in IE (not FireFox) and it doesn't work if I hit the "Enter" button on my keyboard, only works when I actually click the "Submit" button:

function submitPartsForm(str) {
var count=document.getElementsByName("partId");
for(var i=0;i<count.length;i++)
{
document.mylist.myNum[i].value= document.getElementsByName("partNum")
(i).value;}
document.forms["mylist"].submit();
}
myNum[] is a hidden variable and partNum is the name of a text field
that has many instances i mean there are many textfields with the same
name so it forms a column in a data table.

Ok, so I am working a project where one of the last parts is to have a hidden field in the form to pass the product id with everything else in the url parameters. As of right now I have it setup to grab product info for an external file and display on order_form.html(function addprod on line 29), in the h4 tag(line 250) is where the 'prodid' is displayed, I am needing to see if there is a way to get that value put into the hidden field(line 260) to be passes along.

I have an HTML contact form on many different pages of a web site. I need to know which page the user was on when they submit the form. I need to pass the URL of the current page as a hidden field through the form when it's submitted. Do I need to add javascript to the header to call a function pulling the URL and then a secondary function to place it in the hidden field's "value" attribute?

I have created a html purchase request form that people will fill out and submit to make purchase requests within my company. In this html form, I have a text field that is automatically populated when the page is pulled up. The text field is populated with the name of the person who is logged in and it is read only so they cannot be deceitful or anything.To get to this HTML Request form, you must log in through a webclient thus the server knows to populate your name because you are the one logged in. The text field populates because of its <input NAME = "OBProperty_CurrentUserRealName", which is a keyword the program identifies and knows to populate with the logged in users name into that particular text field.
That works all fine and dandy, so here is where the problem lies. When submitting the overall form request, the populated name isnt being saved/ carried over to the admin page so we do not know who it was submitted by.To make the persons name carry over and save, another field name keyword must be used.
Which is OBKey__163_1. Which it was suggested to me to make that the input name of a hidden field. I need "text field A" to continue to populate the form with the persons name using OBKey_CurrentUserRealName, then pass the persons name off to a hidden field containing the input name=OBKey__164_1, which will thus save/pass the persons name on with the rest of the filled out request form when its submitted.
Here is what I have:
<input name="OBProperty_CurrentUserRealName" type="text" id="buyer" style="width:100%" readonly="readonly">
<input name="OBKey__163_1" type="hidden" id="OBKey__163_1">

I'm using jquery autocomplete to fill a textbox with some text but I need to get the ID of the item too. For this purpose I thought to use the on select event to fill an hidden field the problem is that the on select event is never fired.
This is my code
$(function() {
$('input#<%= tblNewInsert.FindControl("nazioni").ClientID %>').autocomplete({
source: function(request, response) {
$.ajax({
url: "offerte.aspx/fillJson",
data: "{ 'descrizione': '" + request.term + "', 'tabella': 'nazioni', 'campo': 'paese' }",
dataType: "json",
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
select: function(event, ui) { alert("never fired"},
success: function(data) {
response($.map(data.d, function(item) {
return {
value: item.descrizione
}}))},
error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert(textStatus);
}});},
minLength: 1
});});

I am currently working on a small Ajax image upload script using some clever iframes, php and a lytebox to create a seamless application. a small link on a page starts my lytebox that essentially opens a new page inside this. this page takes a file upload and using an iframe posts to a php script that will validate the file and upload to the server, the location of this file is then posted back to the iframe for viewing. Once this completes I have a cropping tool available for users to make final adjustments to their image before saving this and sending the new cropped image location to a value of a hidden text box. Once the user is happy with this they can click close to return to the parent page, upon doing this the value of the hidden filed is passed back to parent page and saved into another hidden filed to use. ( To clarify, i use hidden values as the parent page is the actual upload script.
My lytebox version was created to allow usability for users to re-size and crop their image before upload, all this happens in the lytebox to appear like its just a cropping tool.) Its at this point I am having some difficulty. I want to alert the user that the upload has been successful and all that is required is the user to hit save. This was ultimately save the finished image with all the users date in the database. I thought I could use an onchange event to trigger a function that would insert text into a div but this wont work. My code for the parent page and the hidden field is:-

A need has come up, where I have to pass a text box entry to a Javascript Variable on the same page. Once I have that variable, I will need to utilize it on various places in the page. Here are the segmants of code I am working with:
*** DECLARING THE VARIABLE "firstname" (this would appear near the top of the body) ***
<script type="text/javascript">
var firstname;
firstname="This is Where I would like the text box to place it's value";
</script>
[Code]....
I know that I can set the text value of a DIV or SPAN very easily, but that is not what I want. I really would like it in a Js Variable that I can utilize freely in the code, wherever I need it.
1: Is this at all possible
2: What code am I missing to make this work. Again - I am very, very limited with Js knowledge.

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I have a requirement in which, I need to capture a loan amount and the amount of down payment for that loan. According to the requirement, the user is going to enter enter the loan amount and then will enter the down payment in either percentage of the loan amount or an actual amount. I have designed a form to capture this information with three text fields, one each for loan amount, down payment in % and down payment in $.
So the user has the option of entering downpayment in $ or in %. If the user enter the down payment in $ then my code has to calculate the equivalent % value and populate the corresponding text field and vice versa. My question here is, what would be the best way to handle this
situation.
Shall i just use the OnChange event of the text field to handle this scenario? If I do that wont I be running into a loop?

when the user types a FIRST NAME into the first name textbox this should update the paxname with the value and a space.when the user types a LAST NAME into the last name textbox this should update the paxname with the value therefore at the end of the process the paxname will have the full name of the person in order with spaces in between. also i would like the first name and last name values to be changed to proper case ie John Smith once placed into paxname the update process does not have to be instantaneous, it can perhaps update the paxname textbox when the focus is gone from the field in question, dont mind how it works as long as it updates.

I have a text field on my page, whose value I am setting through the jQuery cal
$('#Expandable').val("fefefe");
However, when I normally type into the text field, certain events occur as the text field value changes. These events do not occur when I set the value like above. So my question is, after I set the value, how do I invoke any onChange handlers?

I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right
<script language="javascript">
fields = 1;
function addMore() {
if (fields = 1) {
document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>";

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.
Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

Say I have a form so long that i want to group sections by category and have them expandable, using css to display:none or display:block these groups. If a user selects an option or two in one of these divs, then fills in some fields, then hides the div... is it going to cause problems when they submit the form if the div is hidden?
edit: what if we add validation into the mix. What happens if a field in a hidden div does not pass validation?

Let me preface this with the usual disclaimer: I am new to this and have only been programming with Javascript, PHP for about 2 weeks now and have been lucky enough to have resolved the issues I have encountered. This one however is puzzling to me.
I have a HTML form created that collects member information. It calls, on submit, a confirmation page that lists all the data fields entered. This all works great. However, when I then post the variables from the first html form page from my second confirmation html page to my PHP script, using document.write with input type=hidden and inserting the address variable into the value field, the Javascript only passes this variable up to the first space. It is the only variable I pass that has a space in it.
I have verified that the variable does indeed contain the whole address and I have also verified when I execute the following: document.write ('<input type="hidden" name="address1" value='+address_1+'>');
the address_1 parameter passed to the php script only passes the string up to the first space.
I even tried to put fixed text in there instead of a variable (e.g.)
document.write ('<input type="hidden" name="address1" value="555 Drury Lane" >');
and it still only passes the string up to the first space (555).
I show the variable address_1 on my confirmation page and it shows the entire string.
I checked what was being passed and it seems that the Javascript is the culprit (or more likely the Javascript creator - me)
All my other variables (which don't have spaces) pass to the php script with no problems.
