Build A Redirect Url Dynamically Based On 2 Select Field Combinations Chosen?
Oct 8, 2009
I am having trouble writing this javascript for my work, normally I would do this in ASP or PHP, but the environment I am working with will only allow javascript for dynamic function.
The form has two different select boxes and based on your options selected for select box #1 and select box #2, the hidden input field "redirect" (which is currently empty) would then populate dynamically with the URL associated with that combination mentioned below. The hidden redirect input field (now containing dyanmically generated data) would then pass the new value via HTTP_POST to .net script that will handle the redirect processing step fed to it. code...

I'm trying to dynamically build a table based on a checkbox being checked in the first td of every tr:
var tableID;
var isChecked;
var tableImportBuild;
function importData(id) {
[Code].....
I should note that isChecked points to a checkbox inside a table cell. I'm trying to clone the entire row the checked checkbox is in. If I alert $(tableImportBuild).html() from within the each loop I do get the result I was expecting but for some reason I don't have access to that variable once outside the loop.

I need a script that when an option is selected in a drop-down box (select tag) an input tag appears and I am still pretty basic at javascript.
I was using a script that worked fine but because the variable of the option that makes the script go required the "|" character, it interfered with a PHP script in my document and screwed everything up.

I am looking to build as basic as possible, a form that has 3 select dropdowns that have predetermined options. The user will select the first option and based on that option the second will populate and based on that, the third one will give the last option. Now, when the last one is selected, i need a div or a paragraph displaying information to be displayed.So here's the framework.
Option 1 = fruit or vegitables of which fruit is selected is selected by the user
Option 2 = Apples, Grapes, and pears of which apples is then selected
Option 3 = Red, Green and Yellow of which Green is selected.
Once green is selected, I need a description about the green aple to be displayed.

I'm trying to do something that is slightly complex and I can't find any relevant examples in the usual places,I'm pulling a list of projects (and their IDs) into a select:
Code:
<select name="proj_id" id="proj_id" onchange='setValuz()'>
<option value="1" >1st Project</option>
<option value="2" >2nd Project</option>
</select>
Each project has two associated values, in addition to the unique ID:
[Code]...
Can anyone shed some light on how I could do this? Maybe a link to a "how-to" (if there is one out there)?

HTML Code:
I want to know how I could direct the user to a html document based upon which option I have chosen in the list (see above). So for example...
If I have chosen '1' in the list (see above), then when I submit the form, I will be directed to a page detailing information related to option '1'. If I have chosen '2' in the list (see above), then when I submit the form, I will be directed to a page detailing information related to option '2' etc.

I have two arrays (States, Cities) I am trying to allow the user to chose one from a select form (Choice) and then have the values of the chosen array displayed in a alert(). Obviously I could just write an if statement and display the required content depending on whether the value selected == States or Cities. But this project is just a placeholder project for me to figure out one aspect of a much larger project I am working on. And it is important for the result to be chosen dynamically as in the final project I won't know the values that the select field is being filled with.What I need to do is take the value returned from the select field (Choice) and turn that into the name of the array and display that. If I use this code
PHP Code:
alert(States);
then it returns the values of that array. But like I said I need to be able to dynamically select what array to display based on users input
PHP Code:
alert(document.getElementById("Choice").value);
returns the value chosen. How can I take the value chosen and actually display the value of the array with that same name. In other words let JS know that I don't literally want it to display the value chosen but rather the value chosen is the name of the array I want it to display?
PHP Code:
1.
Pseudo code
2.
x = document.getElementById("Choice").value;
[code]....

I am building a form with ColdFusion, HTML, and will be using some Javascript, and I wnt the javascript to tell one form object to display itself when a certain option is chosen from a <select> tag.
<cfquery name="getCategories" datasource="#mydatasource#" username="#myusername#" password="#mypassword#">
SELECT * FROM categories WHERE type = 'cat' ORDER BY id
</cfquery>
<cfform action="engine.cfm" method="post" format="html">
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr><th colspan="2">New Category</th>
</tr><tr>
<td>Category Type:</td>
<td><select name="type">
<option value=" "></option>
<option value="cat">Main Category</option>
<option value="sub">Sub Category</option>
</select></td></tr>
<tr><td>Name:</td>
<td><cfinput type="text" name="title" size="20" maxlength="100" required="yes" message="A name for the category is required.">
</td></tr>
<tr><td>Parent Category:</td><td>
<cfselect enabled="Yes" name="parentcat" multiple="no" query="getCategories" value="id" display="title" queryPosition="below">
<option value=" "></option></cfselect>
</td></tr><tr>
<td colspan="2"><cfinput type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" validate="submitonce" validateat="onserver,onsubmit"></td>
</tr></table></cfform>
I want the <cfselect> tag to display on if Sub Category is selected on the first <select> tag. I expect that it will use the onchange attribute but other than that I have no idea.

I'm trying to build a string based on three drop downs. As each drop down choice is made, I want to append the string and redisplay it. When finished the string will be a complete (but not hyperlinked) URL.
My drop downs look like this:
HTML Code:
PHP Code:
Here's how it supposed to work...
When an admin has used the first drop down to pick the value of the "first" variable, the string is updated and redisplayed like so:
Next, when an admin has used the second drop down to pick the value of the "second" variable, the string is updated and redisplayed like so:
Finally, when an admin has used the third drop down to pick the value of the "third" variable, the string is updated and redisplayed like so:
That's all I have. I'm stuck. I'm guessing I need an "onChange" event with each drop down? Also, I need to refresh the "makeTheLink" div when an onChange event fires? How do you tie all of this together? Is self rolled JavaScript the best solution or would jQuery be better?

I am just starting to use the DOM to do some more advanced
javascripting so please be patient with my question if it is an
ignorant question.
I would like to use the DOM to dynamically create an html table via
javascript. While that table is being dynamically created in a
javascript function I would like to dynamically insert text and a
hyperlink with an image into each cell.
I got pretty far on my own. I was able to dynamically create a table
and insert a string into each cell. However, I was not able to use
the DOM to insert a hyperlink into each cell. I tried adding it as a
new text node and got the text of a link rather then a link. I then
tried adding and setting an anchor element but I got nothing. Code:

I've got this XML file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Menu>
<Section>
<Title>Product Information</Title>
<Topic url="howto.html">How to use This Product</Topic>
<Topic url="product.html">Product Overview</Topic>
<Topic url="sysreq.html">System Requirements</Topic>
</Section>
.....
</Menu>
There's more data than that but for brevity that's the way it's constructed and repeats with several Titles and Topics. Here's the JS I'm using to build a dynamic menu. The goal is to pick up the data and build an Accordion menu out of it:
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); //create ajax var
} else {
xhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); //IE
} xhttp.open("GET","menu.xml",false);
xhttp.send("");
xmlDoc=xhttp.responseXML;
document.write("<div class='acc'>");
var x=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Section");
for (i=0;i<x.length;i++) {
document.write("<dt>");
document.write("<a href='#'>" + x[i].getElementsByTagName("Title")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</a></dt>");
document.write("<dd><ul>");
var y=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Topic")[0].childNodes[0];
for (foo=0;foo<x.length;foo++){
document.write("<li class='acc_item'><a href='#'>" + x[i].getElementsByTagName("Topic")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</a></li>");
} document.write("</ul></dd>");
} document.write("</div>");
It creates the menu correctly... to a point. It has the correct styling, the accordion works perfectly, it has the correct Titles in the correct places, but when I "expand" one of the Titles it lists the first topic only, and lists it 5 times (the same amount of Titles I have). It then repeats this for every section. Example:
Product Information
How to Use This Product
How to Use This Product
How to Use This Product
How to Use This Product
How to Use This Product
I'm not very confident in the syntax, or what it is exactly doing.

So basically, the flow is like this..
page loads
callback to 3rd party.
--> is third party connected = yes --> build iframe (in parent page)
---> is third party connected = no --> do nothing

Im using a jQuery script to show/hide a div based based on the selection made via a dropdown.
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
The problem im having is that the value used in the dropdown lists are price values eg 10.00
Consequently jQuery seems to interprit these as css notations, meaning the code doesnt work.
