Searching A Specific File In A Directory
Aug 21, 2006
I have a webserver setup in my home, with an index file that is an access
comtrol page, that, if the authentication is sucessfull, takes the user to a
specific directory. In this directory I only have image files in .jpg format.
I need to create a page were the user can either browse the entiry
directory, or specify a filename to search for, wildcards enabled, and
beiing able to see a reduced size image in the result page when hovering the
image/file result link. Any Ideas?

I have a form, and i am trying to add the values of 5 fields into one javascript variable. Then i need an ajax function to search a directory for a php file made from these variables and return a "file exists" or "file doesnt exist" message to the form.
For example, assume the following values have been inputted into the fields;
Field1 (Manufacturer) - Kawasaki
Field2 (Model_Name) - GPZ500
Field3 (Nickname) - None
Field4 (Market) - UK
Field5 (Year) - 2000
Then javascript needs to add the values of Field1 - Field5 (and add a few bits)to create (for example):
Kawasaki_GPZ500_None_UK_2000.php
Then i need ajax to search a web directory for the file above, and if it exists return a link, or if it doesnt exist tell the user it doesnt exist.
im hoping that i can use ajax to do this search without clicking any buttons etc. unfortunately i have very little knowlegde of javascript and ajax and dont have a clue how i can go about implementing this.
i know how to do it by posting the variables to the next page and doing the check using php - but i would like instant validation as soon as the form fields have been entered.

I'm using the following Javascript code to show a div layer depending on the URL
<script type="text/javascript">
if (location.href.match(/folder/)) {
document.getElementById("div-layer").style.display="block";
}
</script>
This works perfectly when I visit [URL] but I do not want it to match any subfolders beneath /folder, for example: [URL] etc. How I can modify the code to only match /folder or /folder/ and no subfolders beneath it?

I've tried every combination I can think of, and I can't figure this out. According to me, if you type a name that matches one of the xml items' names into the box using the following code:
[Code]....
it should show the gmarker with that name... but nothing. If I leave it blank and hit the search button at least I get the alert, so something is working.

I'm looking for a way to select a directory from a local drive through a
form (like input type="file" except I want to get a directory name not just
a file). I've searched every way I could think of (refer to my brain comment
above) and come up with absolutly nothing.

I have almost 300 photos that I want to have in a gallery that is easy to use. I would like to avoid making 300 list items (as is necessary with all of the auto rotators and other jquery plug ins that I've found) but to have the images load straight from the folder after the rest of the website has loaded.
It wold be nice if maybe there was a pretty horizontal scroll bar or something and the image in the middle of the page was biggest if possible, but I'm really not picky. I don't know what the best way is to display so many photos! They don't need captions or anything.

I have a number of image files that have been pre-selected by the user
for downloading. I'd like to be able to have the user click a button
and have a directory browser pop-up window available for the user to
select the directory into which the image files will be downloaded.
I thought that this would be simple to find but...
If this is possible I further need to know:
1) how to access the directory path string (which will be used to
download the files)
2) how to set any available default values for the directory bvrowser.

I have the code below ***within <head> section. It's for making fancy
buttons, and it works great. What I was wondering was this.
I also have in <head> the following line: <SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript"
src=/js/javas.js></SCRIPT> which essentially has a bunch of unrelated
javascript functions.
What I would like to do is move the code below into my javas.js file, but am
unsure what is the proper format since it doesn't seem to me a function by
name. Code:

On my site i use a lot of features that are unsupported by older browsers, and right now it looks pretty stupid when the features are only partially shown. So i was wondering if there's a way of making the browser look to different css files depending on which browser and version it is. For example, css3 gradient backgrounds are supported in firefox 3.6 or something, but not in 3.0. All the hacks out there is to 3.*, so it changes for the allready working 3.6 too if i hack it. I want to controll it so that i have a specific css file for the none-supporting version and lower and one for the supporting and above. I looked at a bad browser plugin (because it has some of the basic features im looking for)

<div class="box top"></div>
<div class="box main">
<div class="box header">
<div class="badge"><ul><li class="active"><span>60</span></li></ul></div>
[Code]....
What is happening is $(this) is no longer based on .expand being the (this) that is clicked.
like if i have a button SOMEWHERE randomly on the page with this
<div onclick="Minimize('_alerts');">Click Here</div> this will minimize alerts but because the (this) in minimize function doesn't actually point to the right button that I want to add a class to.
Is there a way to modify the minimize function so that it finds the <div id="mytoggle"><ul> <li class="expand boxminimize" rel="_alerts"> using the rel toggle, and then changes the class of the li from expand boxminimize to boxexpanded??
just like the .expand click function I posted on the top of the post that works?

Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me.
I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them.
Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers?

I know this code works just fine:
function result(){
var result = document.getElementById('resss').innerHTML;
}
But what I actually want is to import data from a table of an external website. E.g. I want to get the innerHTML of a specific cell in column 3 and row 2 of a specific site.

I have been looking for a way to open a PDF file and automatically
locate and go to a certain phrase within the file. The phrase should
only appear once within the file, if not, the first occurrance is all
that is needed.
The file is needed to be opened from a website, into a new window. As
it is opened, it needs to be sent the key phrase that it is looking
for. I have no trouble choosing what phrase on the html side or
opening the pdf file on its own. Note that the opening and finding of
phrases would be done with Javascript on the html side.
Essentially what I am looking for is for the user to be able to click a
link on the website. The site would open up the new pdf window
containing the file and is automatically at the spot where the first
phrase appears in the pdf.
However, I do not wish to attach any Javascript to the pdf file itself.
The file may be changing over time by other users who may not have the
expertise to deal with the javascript adding. At the moment, the
original file is created in word and then transfered to PDF. So the
PDF file name stays the same, as well as its location which would be in
the same directory as the html file that links to it. But the contents
of the PDF may change over time so I cannot add a Javascript to the pdf
file.
Note that it may be possible if neccessary to add Javascript to the
PDF. I may be able to get the users to edit the file in PDF mode but
that is not a given.
I do not want a pop up window such as in the find option for the user
to press before coming to the right location unless any other possible
solution is not available.

- Asks the User to select a date (year, month, day) via drop-down boxes- Converts whatever the user inputs to a formal that will match a string value found in an imported array in a .js file... And what I'm having trouble with:- Searching through the imported array for a matching value- Printing whatever block of the array matches the value, as well as any others that also match the value.
For starters, because the array I'm working with is enormous, I'll just make one up here that is still in the same format. In working with the main code, assume that this is the cdr.js file:
var cdr = [
{
"callid": "Guest User1",
"start": "2009-05-11 15:08:40",
[code]....
I've essentially left the section where the search code needs to be blank as I'm not even sure where to begin.

<script type='text/javascript'>
function highlight()
{
var find = document.BODY.term.value;
var text = document.BODY.body.createTextRange();
var mark = text.getBookmark();
if(!find)
{
alert('You must enter a search term');
return false;}
text.findText(find);
alert(text.moveToBookmark(mark));}
</script>
<form name='BODY'>
<input type='text' name='term' /><input type='button' value='Find' onclick='highlight();' />
<br />
<textarea name='body'>hello there, hello!</textarea>
</form>
Basically, what I would like this to do is simply search for a string within the textarea and highlight it. So far all it does is return true or false on success ( concerning findText AND moveToBookmark ).
