Invoking A Directory Browse For File(s) Download
Jul 23, 2005
I have a number of image files that have been pre-selected by the user
for downloading. I'd like to be able to have the user click a button
and have a directory browser pop-up window available for the user to
select the directory into which the image files will be downloaded.
I thought that this would be simple to find but...
If this is possible I further need to know:
1) how to access the directory path string (which will be used to
download the files)
2) how to set any available default values for the directory bvrowser.

I have had some experience with JavaScript. I have therefore developed a very simple slideshow. The source code for this can be seen below:
Code:
I feel this works as it should as I can move from image to image and also have it to run automatically. However, I now want the user to be able to browse an image and the image to be saved to the default directory where the other images are stored.
I currently have a script after searching online which browse's and opens the file, although this is in a new window, whereas with the slideshow the image is to be opened within the table. The browse code is shown below also:
Code:
The save function i have found only through research works in IE via the execommand. Any ideas how i could get this to work on other browsers or anthoer method of saving the image into the array?

I need to have a submit input button automatically start a download when clicked, but also redirect to an additional "information" page. Since I'm not sure if this can simply be solved with HTML or must use some Javascript.

I'm looking for one of those scripts with you can add another browse for file box to upload files. Eg: as u see in attachments on webmail sites.
Do any of u have a simple script like this or can link me to one?
What i need in the script is to be able to:
-Set the maximum number of browse for files boxes that appear
-Check if the same file is added more than once
-have a link next to each file to remove a selected file
Kind of like this:
Add a file -> Click on this to get
File name - <selectbox> - <browse button> - <remove file>
<remove file> removes the file next to it so another can be added upto the limit set.

Websites like gmail.com use a file attachment system where the sender selects the file from his/her computer to be included within the message. The thing about this is that when the file is browsed upon there is NO browse input element to be shown.
I believe this somewhat prevents the user from messing around with the embedded filepath within the browse box (if they can mess it up). It also doesn't display such an ugly looking browsing box and it's file path.

I've written the code as in jsp :
<html:file property="browsefile" value="" />
and in the script i wrote as:
function keyp() {
alert("Please select the file through the browse button ! ");
alert(document.AddDeSelNumForm.browsefile.value);
document.AddDeSelNumForm.browsefile.value=''
document.AddDeSelNumForm.browsefile.focus();
}
what i want is , not allowing the user to input the file manually. he must have browse the file through the browse button and shouldn't write it manually. Here in this i've to use the struts one html file option because i'm using this function for other.
Here what is happening is, when i press any key it is popping up the message but after click on OK, the value which i entered is remains there only eventhough i'm using :document.AddDeSelNumForm.browsefile.value=''
but the strange think is that when i'm alerting that particular value it is showing the the value of the browse text which u have entered the text. I'm really confused why it not clearing the field.

I have File Upload control in my form. When I click Enter key, it
triggers "Submit" button event. So I wrote onkeydown function as
follows:
if (window.event.keycode == 13)
{
return false;
}.
hence "Submit" button didn't fire.
But I want to assign Spacebar keycode as follows (so that it will open
file upload window)
if (window.event.keycode == 13) window.event.keycode=32. But this is
not working.

I need a way to scroll to the end of the fileupload filename once that file has been selected with the browse button. So instead of seeing c:FolderNamefoldername, the user will see foldernamefilename.fileextension in that box.

I'm looking for a way to select a directory from a local drive through a
form (like input type="file" except I want to get a directory name not just
a file). I've searched every way I could think of (refer to my brain comment
above) and come up with absolutly nothing.

I have almost 300 photos that I want to have in a gallery that is easy to use. I would like to avoid making 300 list items (as is necessary with all of the auto rotators and other jquery plug ins that I've found) but to have the images load straight from the folder after the rest of the website has loaded.
It wold be nice if maybe there was a pretty horizontal scroll bar or something and the image in the middle of the page was biggest if possible, but I'm really not picky. I don't know what the best way is to display so many photos! They don't need captions or anything.

I implemented Malsups jquery form and use it for ajax file uploads. Works fine in FF, but in IE as soon as the ajax has completed the upload IE gives me a File Download box - Security warning. If I click on save it save thereturnedJson object (I do JS call onsuccessto get a file list and display it). If I click cancel or save on the popup has same effect the file still gets uploaded but just looks ugly.
How can I get rid of this? All coming form the same domain, calling from the same domain. This is on a python django project and I am testing it on the dev server.
Its pretty basic jquery nothing to exciting, don't get why IE would cause.

I'm using ASP.NET and setting window.location.href in my web page to output an audio file that the user is prompted to download. I would like to provide a link so that the user can download the audio file and an XML file one after the other. I've been experimenting with opening a new
window, but there must be a cleaner way of doing this.

I need to download - randon size - parts of a file, not the whole file.
Says: I have the zip file test.zip, it is 10 mega bytes long. But I
don't want the 10 mega today. Today I want 5 mega bytes. Tomorrow I
could want more 3 mega bytes of the file, but it is not sure, could be
4 mega bytes. I need to part the zip file in chunks at request. No CGI,
no asp, no php. Only client side scripts.

i noticed today that if i type in my js file name in the url i get a download box, i have an htaccess on my site so this should not be happening, thats another issue.. my question is, is there a trick to creating a js file that cant be accessed in this manner, i was thinking about adding a php define statement as it comes from one source only, but i wanted to ask first to see if there was something on the js side i could do or is that strictly a htaccess or server side issue..

I'm wanting a message box to appear when a user clicks on a link that pops up a message. Once they click "OK' on the message box, a file download box pops up letting them open/save the file.
Basically a person clicks on a link for a class. A message box pops up saying "Please print and bring the following papers to class." When they click "OK", the *.pdf file pops up ready to be downloaded.

I know there got 1 function is fileUpload, the code is like this:
<input type="file" name="filename" size="35">
After that will prompt out 1 dialog box to let user to select file to upload.
*User must select 1 file to upload.
How about If I just want to browse the path? and I do not want to select a file but create a filename by myself?
Actually I just want to specify the path and filename so that later I can create 1 file by using the filename and create the file in that path.
