I am working on a simple tool for my office.We have a very huge database with 5000 tables. All the tables, Columns and their attributes are stored in to excel sheet.
Tool I am designing is for mapping between front end and back end values. Now I will use an image (front end screen of our application) , when user clicks it, I need the HTML to access the excel sheet and display the back end field,the name of tables it can be found in and other data related to that field
Simply,I want to pull data from excel and display them differently for each different click. I want to pass the parameter on click and filter a column in excel with it and display the entire set of sheet with this criteria. Is this possible? or am I expecting too much

I have a project that I need to read some data from an XML file.
Something like:
However, since JS is a client side script so it can't read from client side, is there any alternate way to do this? I am thinking to create a "Data" class, and many "Data" objects, is this an elegant way to do it?

Basically, I registered for a free board at one of the various sites because my server doesn't support .cgi scripts. I want to know if there is a way to have the data from a form on my site post to the board site -A user would fill in my form, click submit, and a new post would appear on the board site -as if they had entered it there.
If you can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Here is my thinking.
A) I can't locate the script that they use to perform a "submit"; so I thought I might enter their <head> data (as far as xmlns, href, etc) in my <head>; that my website might call up their script files, css sheets, etc.
B)I could code my own Javascript function to send my form data to their site. If I knew how to simulate a mouseclick on someone else's site, I could have the script "click" there, paste the data, and hit the submit button. But I don't.
C) I could size their site down to the form itself and put it in a frame on my page
Option C is clearly easier, but I would prefer option A or B. I have time and will happily do the research myself; provided that I know if approach A or B is even feasible.

I am going to use the server push
for streaming the data by keeping the connection open. At client side,
i am having the XMhttprequest object (i.e ActiveX object of IE). When
the data comes, onreadystatechange method get callback on state 3 but
it doesn't allow me to read the data from the object. It says 'The data
necessary to complete this operation is not yet available'. Is it
possible to read the streaming data from the XMLHttprequest object in
IE?
I know Mozilla supports to read the data, when the ready state is 3. In
Internet Explorer, how we can use the XMLhttp Active object to read the
streaming data.

I have a webpage for insurance agents that the agent will login and then enter some insured information.
There is a field named "agentnumber" that is on the form, but is hidden by a display:none. The field is set from the username of the person who logs in whenever the form loads the first time. The form will save automatically when the user leaves the page.
I am experiencing a weird issue that every now and then, the agentnumber field is getting saved with incorrect data. After discussing it with the agent, it is being saved with the agentnumber of the agent from other companies, not from the my website. what may be happening as I thought browser security would prevent cross site javascript. The users are using IE 7 & IE 8.

I'd like to read and modify a cell (e.g. 'Text 1') in the following HTML table with a javascript:
==============================================
<html>
<body>
<table id = "MyTable">
<tr id = "Row1">
<td width = "40%">
Text 1
</td>
<td width = "60%">
Text 2
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
==============================================
With
var table = document.getElementById("MyTable");
I can access the table and with
... table.rows[var_tabelle.rows.length - 1].firstChild
I can somehow access the row. But I can't read and also not change the
content.

<HTML>
<TITLE>New member application form</TITLE>
<script language="JavaScript" src="javaScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<!--<HEAD><H2><P align = "center">Welcome...</P></H2>-->
<H2><P align = "center"> Member Registration Form </p></H2>

<HR>
<BODY> .....
The error I experience is that nothing happens when I click submit button. I have installed Tomcat 6.0 and do not seem to have issues with that.

I have a very large tree data structure and I want to display some of its sections on a HTML page. I wrote the following JavaScript that loads parts of the tree dynamically injecting the desired HTML code.
Code:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/>[code]....
Each show_xxxxxxxx() function displays desired part of the tree on HTML.The problem is each time I load the HTML file it takes a lot of time to read the JavaScript (there are many show_xxxxxxxx() functions with a lot of HTML to insert).Is it possible to cache the loaded JavaScript into browser memory so it won't read the entire script when I reload the page with different content?

There are times that I am using another person's computer who has no
knowledge of updating HTML and does not even know if he has the
necessary programs to do the FTP.
I may see a minor problem with my site and would like to change it on
the fly. What I would like to know are the answers to the following
questions.
1. Is there any way to display unformated HTML within a web page
without using the browsers source facility?
2. Is there a way to modify it? Maybe showing it in a form textarea.
3. Is there a way for javascript or a form to do an FTP back to the web
site? This would obviously require id and password.
