How To Read The Streaming Data From IE Xmlhttprequest Object

Apr 3, 2006

I am going to use the server push

for streaming the data by keeping the connection open. At client side,
i am having the XMhttprequest object (i.e ActiveX object of IE). When
the data comes, onreadystatechange method get callback on state 3 but
it doesn't allow me to read the data from the object. It says 'The data

necessary to complete this operation is not yet available'. Is it
possible to read the streaming data from the XMLHttprequest object in
IE?

I know Mozilla supports to read the data, when the ready state is 3. In

Internet Explorer, how we can use the XMLhttp Active object to read the

streaming data.

XMLHTTPRequest Streaming Data

Jul 23, 2005

I am playing with the XMLHTTPRequest method to perform client/server
transactions. I have it set up right now so that when readyState is 4,
it takes the XML and processes it. This works great until there is alot
of data. In that case, the user will have to wait for the data to come
back which may take a minute or so.

I don't want the user to have to wait. Is it possible for javascript to
periodically (while still receiving more data) stop and display what it
has received thus far? I guess this would be considered a type of
streaming.

In mozilla/firefox, I have read that I can use readyState 3 to run my
callback function every 4096 bytes. I can then take those 4K, parse
them, and then continue on. However I have also read that IE cannot do
this. Since I need this to work in IE, is there a workaround?

Read Some Data From An XML File ?

I have a project that I need to read some data from an XML file.

Something like:

However, since JS is a client side script so it can't read from client side, is there any alternate way to do this? I am thinking to create a "Data" class, and many "Data" objects, is this an elegant way to do it?

Streaming M3u's...

Jul 23, 2005

I have a streaming audio feature set up using a M3u file and a bunch of
MP3's: http://www.motorcityrock.com/mcr_radio/mcr_radio.html. When then
visitor clicks on the link the M3u kicks in and the songs play in the
pre-determined order. That works great, but everytime a visitor clicks the
link the songs start from the beginning. Is there a simple way (using
Javascript or?) to keep the M3u "running" in the background all the time so
that all visitors will hear the same song at the same time...just like a
traditional radio station?

Streaming XML With AJAX

Is it possible to stream XML data from a file using AJAX?
The xml file is constantly being updated by a backend program, I currently have a javascript that has a timer, every second it just runs a loadXML() function to return the XML data however having a few problems with the javascript tripping over itself.

Wondering if AJAX has streaming abilities?

Also, can someone please clarify for me, is the xml dom javascript, or ajax? As I have just read a ajax book that tells you to use xmldom to read xml data but im already doing that, with javascript, what is the difference?

i have a form with a 'name', 'date', 'type', 'style', 'color' and 'result' field.let's say the user inputs "jones" in the name field, "8/1/2011" in the date field, "new" in the type field, and 'modern' in the style field.i want the 'result' field to take a look at the 'name' field, and if the 'name' field has a particular text, let's say (in this case) "jones", the javascript code will then place the contents of 'date', 'type' and 'style' fields, along with hardwired text like "the information you are looking for is 'date', 'type' and 'style'" into the 'result' field.

JQuery :: Using .ajax() To Access Cross-domain Data Using JSONP - Able To Cache The Data

Jun 27, 2011

I am using .ajax() to access cross-domain data using JSONP. Because I need to be able to cache the data I want to use a static name for thejsonpCallback function, so I have set the jsonpCallback option in the .ajax() request. However that appears to requires a global function whereas the auto generated function didn't (well maybe it did but that was all hidden from me).

I definitely need to be able to cache the results. Ideally I wouldn't have a global function handling the data. Is there another way to do this? If not what is the best practice way to go about using a global function these days and how do I provide it with the context of the object/module it was called from - which is where the data is needed?

JQuery :: Form Data Not Displaying In Textarea On Subsequent Return Of Data From A Call?

Oct 5, 2011

Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.

The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:

$("textarea#draftrec").html(data).show();
//------------------------------------------------------
$("form#form1").submit(function(e){
