I making a form, nothing special, just for myself... so when user loads my form it askes him for his name ( with prompt 'var name=prompt("Your name please",""); ) then says Welcome 'name' (with alert box). THEN he can start filling in the form. What I want is for a user not to have to type his name two times but to pass the value of var name into the input type="text" name="First Name" ..

I'm trying to access a value from an input form. I know this works without the onkeyup event but with it it says the that document.formname.elementid.value is undefined! Its extremely frustrating. As the user types into the input, I am using AJAX to generate some more options which works but I need to be able to access the input type=text value.
I have a form with texts inputs and a submit button... The page has post parameters from the previous page. Now when I press enter key on one of the text inputs, the posted parameters were gone... Do you know how to disable enter key for this purpose
Firstly, I got this script which gets values and automatically calculates it and shows result. Script: <script type="text/javascript"> function calculate(f){ var prod=Number(f['users'].value); var quan=Number(f['months'].value); var tot=prod*quan; f['total'].value=tot==0?'':tot.toFixed(2); } </script> <ul><li class="bold">Users</li> <li> <select name="users" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="users"> <option value='1'>1</option> <option value='2'>2</option> </select> </li></ul> <ul><li class="bold">Period</li><li> <select name="months" onchange="calculate(this.form)" id="months"> <option value=''>Select Months</option> <option value='1'>1 Month</option> <option value='2'>2 Months</option> </select></li></ul> Total: <input type="text" name="total" readonly="readonly">
What I'm trying to make is, the total, to be in a div and not input type text Something like <div id="total"></div> I don't like because it shows in form, I want it directly. One more thing, is possible to make the default price 0.00 ? and when selecting automatically changes to price..
I got a couple of comboboxes were the user selects a series of numbers. Once a selection is made, the value is appended to an input box. The idea is that the appended values form a telephone number, or at least part of one, that will then be used to search trough a database to look for a matching number.If I select "021" from indicatif, the script will append 021 to the input "blabla". The problem is, if I now select "022", the input will show "021022" instead of replacing the 021 with 022.
What I would like is that, for each combobox, the script replaces the selected value with the new one instead of simply appending it, like instead of say 021022555666 it would show 021555 or 022666 or 021666 depending on what is selected...you get the idea?Is this doable? Needless to say I'm a total noob at javascript.
I'm trying to validate an input type text html tag with JS.There is an array (prefisso[]) with a lot of dial codes.The first 3 characters of the value to check must be one of the elements of "prefisso[]".The value to check must be longer than 9 chars (min 10).
I am trying to setup a password input that fist shows: "Password". When the user selects it (or focuses on it), it clears and becomes a password input. If the person, clears the password and leaves focus (blurs), the word password appears again.I did some research on this first. There is this article that requires creation of two inputs (hide one, show the other). I also read this article.Without confusing everyone, I am trying to do this simple and in a smart way:HTML BODY
I am playing about with javascript arrays.Have recently just sat today looking through w3c and going through pages in a w3c book i bought on javascript and ajex.if im wanting to display stuff to use a drop down box but i need to learn to use arrays as the course im studying in college is on javascript and i feel this would be beneficial for me personally to know.i want to know if its possible to as well as select data from the array but also to Input new data from a button that opens a prompt box for users to enter a new array object.

I have an assignment where one piece of it needs to have the first name, last name, area code, and phone number when prompted by a function, once that info is had, it then needs to use the constructor function that is there to process the data and lastly use the data to output it with a show function. I have it to work with static information, but cant seem to figure what I am missing or how to make the prompt function information to feed to the constructor, I know when using the static variable it uses "new Function" but that seems to be my problem,code below:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head>[codee].........

I want to prompt a user to enter their name, if the user entry includes numbers I would like to prompt them to re-enter their name using only text.
I have tried:
var userName = prompt ("Please enter your name", " "); if (userName == null || !isNaN(userName)) { prompt ("Please enter a valid name, and do not include any numbers in this field"); userNamm.focus(); } else { document.write("Welcome back " +userName); }
It isn't working, I would like to monitor the user entry for only text values
I want to restrict the user from being entering the value in <input type="file">. It works fine in IE but not in Mozilla. I am sending my code also which works in IE and not in Mozilla...
If I have this HTML code, the myForm.elements.length is 5, instead of the expected 6. You can click on the image in this case, and it acts like a submit button... proof that the broser recognizes it as part of the form.
So, if I call myForm.elements[4], I get the button, not the image.
It seems goofy to me, and I cannot find any documentation that explains why this is.
Of course, I can get access to the object in many other ways... I am just curious if the is an IE bug.
Is it possible to change the input type of a form field. example
<input type="password" name="pw" value="test">
i want to have a "view" button next to that field that when you press and hold it it will chnage that input type to "text" so i can see the password. And when i release the button it will change it back.
I know this sounds like a bad idea and insecure... but its not a big deal.. i have all this stored in an "administrator" panel which an admin must login to get to it. Inside of that i have some admin programs, one of which displays information about the clients. I want to be able to see the clients password when ever i need to reference what it is, but i figured rather then just printing it on the screen all the time this would be a better way.
I have an input text box that I want to change the type from text to password and I wrote code that works in Firefox but not in IE any suggestions? Here is the code(cut down a little for easier reading) code...
