ain question:can I work with variables in jQuery selectors?I have 5 links with different HTML-IDs on my page. and there are about 75 pictures with HTML titles from one of the 5 link groups. the name of the link IDs match the 5 possible title attributes for images.if I click on a link, I want to make fancy jQuery stuff with all the images that have a title with the same name as the IDs. the code template:my noob-ask-query would be as follows:

At my day job, we use a cms that generates really terrible <title></title> tags that are killing our SE rankings.
Instead of taking the title of the piece of content and putting it in the title tags, it uses the name of the page template.
I first attempted this with jquery, but i'm looking for something that will basically just take <title>template name</title> and replace it with something friendlier.
i tried something as basic as:

I have a URL (var spUrl) and I am trying to get the <title> of the page at that location. I am using $.ajax() to pull the page and process the <title> tag from the response $(data). For some reason, Opera is able pull the title from the <title> tag, but no other browsers are able to do so. When I modify the code to pull the <h2> tag instead of the <title> tag, it works in all browsers.

I'm trying to read the <title> value from a page head. All browsers I've tried are happy with $ 'title'.text apart from ie8 which returns nothing. Am I doing something wrong, or is it IE8 that's wrong? Is there a workaround?

I'm having problems with getting the Page title to show: It sort of flashes up but is quickly replaced by the browser name. I've discovered that if I remove the few lines containing the NoConflict commands (below) <script type='text/javascript'> var $jq = jQuery.noConflict(); </script> ...then the Page Title is fine. But: Of course I lose my second JQuery effect (in this case it's the tooltip). Frustrating. This seems to be a conflict with the NoConflict... right?

Right now as I have it coded, this isn't working properly. I need to replace all the input tag of a page with a <p> tag with inside the input value. I tried in this way

The problem is that the <p> tag is appended inside the <input> and when I remove it I remove also the <p> just added.

One my website its one index page, putting in content depending on the link (ie ?page=xxxxx) and from that it generats the page name, (Page name - MySite). I also have an AJAX search form working on keyup (kinda like google autosearch). I want it so when i start typing there it changes the title to Search - MySite. Then when its empty revert to what ever it was before. I already have the AJAX coding for the search bar.
Also i need to check if its on the homepage or not, and if not load the homepage (currently done by php include), does javascript have an equivelant of php's include?
I have been trying to find a simple way to capture the page title for a form that will be used throughout my site.Basically, creating a javascript function to allow a user to email a page to a colleague. I think I may be way off here, and or trying to do something bizarre, but what I am trying to do is change only part of the the url for all of the links on a page. So say I want to change:
href="/something/something/all"
to
href="/something/something/specific"
I think I need to use each() in combination with attr but I am not exactly sure how. This is what I have so far (with no luck):

$(this).attr('href').replace('all','specific');

I've successfully changed part of a single link based of it's enclosing div id, but if there is more than one link in the div, it replaces the entire href of all the other links in that div to be the same as the first one. So that's why I think I need to use each(). But again, I'm not sure how to do this properly in this case.
I'm working on my personal website [URL] and I'm trying to use Javascript to edit some of the height and size attributes of elements on the page, based on the user's window size. I've got the code that gets the window size working, and calculates what I want to set as the "boxSize" but the part that goes into the external CSS to change the values is not working. "boxSize" is a variable that holds just a number. I'm not sure if it's really stored as a number or a string, but I don't think that's supposed to affect anything.
I'm just putting in the relevant part of the code right where it's failing. I figured out (using alert() statements) that the script is definitely working right up until before the two lines given, and failing to get through them.
