ain question:can I work with variables in jQuery selectors?I have 5 links with different HTML-IDs on my page. and there are about 75 pictures with HTML titles from one of the 5 link groups. the name of the link IDs match the 5 possible title attributes for images.if I click on a link, I want to make fancy jQuery stuff with all the images that have a title with the same name as the IDs. the code template:my noob-ask-query would be as follows:
var matchingname = $("a").attr("title");
$(matchingname).click(function () {
$(".matchingname").eq.hide();

I need a random JS script which stores a hyperlink around a designated image.
Let's say I've got a company website which offers various products, and on the front page I want a random image to appear of one of the products. When they click on that image, they are transfered to the page for that product. This means that the link and image has to correspond.
I'm trying to get a simple script to run where it cycles thru a few images with corresponding links and displays them on a page. I get the script to run 2 times then it breaks on the third with a runtime error saying "object expected Line 0". Code:

I am trying to put an image on the front page of my website that changes to one of two random images on mouseover. This part was easy, and has been done (I got the code from [URL] But what I am finding difficult is to make each image link to a different page. For example, if the user mouseovers the main image and sees the 'thumbs up' image, then clicks on it, they should be taken to the 'thumbs up' page. And if the user mouseovers the main image and sees the 'thumbs down' image, then clicks on it, they should be taken to the 'thumbs down' page. The site is here: [URL] I think using 2 arrays is the way to go, but am not sure.

I'm trying to append the title attribute to the text of my link. I've got it working, except for the fact that all three links are showing the first link's attribute. Check out the demo at http://outdoor/fuelmultimedia.ca Hover over the Products menu item, and you'll see the drop-down with the attributes.This is the code I'm currently using:
var $titleText = $("#top nav ul ul li a").attr("title");

I'm trying to use Javascript to have an array of images that load randomly AND work in a slideshow manner so change every 3 seconds (in a logical order). The code I have below presents a random image but how do I get them to continue from the random image and change to the next every 3 seconds?
<script language="JavaScript">
images = new Array(3);
images[0] = "<a href = 'photo1.html'><img src='images/photo1.jpg' alt='Photo 1'></a>";
images[1] = "<a href = 'photo2.html'><img src='images/photo2.jpg' alt='Photo 2'></a>";

I would like to know if it is possible to create a script to use in a webpage for output the title <a href="[url].....types.html">TITLE</a> BUT not the link itself = [url].... or http:

Hi I'm new to the development world and have bumped into a tough problem for myself. I'm attempting to display external RSS feeds on my site using AJAX. The 'title' and 'link' tags from the XML file appear on my page without any problem. However, unlike the 'title' and 'link' tags, some of the 'description' tags contain HTML.[URl].. This seems to be an issue when I'm trying to display the content within the description tags.
Code:
function getXMLHTTPRequest() {
try {
req = new XMLHttpRequest(); /* e.g. Firefox */
} catch(e) {

As you can see, I embarrassingly tried enclosing the variable newtext2 in CDATA tags to no avail. Since I do not directly have access to this RSS file (other than asking my friend if I can edit it), is there a way for me to display the HTML content within the 'description' tags strictly via JavaScript?
I am trying to get the title attribute of a link to be the same as the visible text of the link. That is, I want the little pop up that occurs when you hover your mouse over the link to read the same as what users would see in the menu.
The menu is written by Javascript, so there is no way to just put a title attribute on each link. Here is the code:
I am having a problem with my wysiwyg editor for my site, users dont like the fact that you have to select text before you create a link and I was wondering if it was possible to prompt the user to add title text before you use the execCommand('createlink') and use that has the select text that they made from the prompt. Instead of the old way where you must select text first to use execCommand('createlink') to create a link. kind of like Sitepoint's insert link function but instead prompts the user for the title and doesn't insert bbcode but a anchor tag?

im1music.net has a download page which is a javascript. Basically when you click on the song title it redirects you to a page which gives you a preview player and a download link. I was just wondering what Javascript this is, as I wish to have it on my site.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for a resolution to this issue for hours trying to customize my page located at [url]
Specifically, I'm trying to figure out why this line of code is not making my images display in the background:
Original plugin script provided here: [url]
<script>
I made adjustments with my image references that are all located in this directory: [url]
Problem: No images load, and I believe I don't fully understand the .appendTo tage.. I don't know if #body is correct. The author of the plugin assumed I understood the relation. Also #homePage may be incorrect as well.
Additionally, I found another plugin that worked for placing an image in the background (not random), and the background image would scale to size, according the users window. I loved that and it worked, just wanted to add random images to the same script.... first things first... I can't even get an image to display at all with the above code.
In case you wanted to know the script I was using to scale the background image, here it is below (although, as you will see in the code for my site - this image feature is disabled as I am trying to make adjustments).
code for image solutions used:
HTML
CSS
If I can get this second code to work with the random image plugin.
How would I go about this? I found this piece of code, but this only allows
two links. Does anyone know how to expand on this to add 10 or more?

var r=Math.random()

In the following code - Sometimes I get the correct image width and sometimes I get an image width that is ZERO. How do I make sure the loaded image attributes are there before I access them. Odd thing is if I click the same thumbnail twice I always get the width. If I click a thumbnail once I may get the width this time BUT when I refresh I may get a ZERO width.
Here is the code...
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#gallery a').click(function(evt) {
evt.preventDefault();
var oldImage = $('#photoBox img'); // Selects the current image
var newImage = new Image(); // Create a new image
var imagePath = $(this).attr('href'); // get the path to the image file to load that was clicked - via its href attr name
newImage.src = imagePath;// Set the newIamge.src to file name or Path
if (newImage.width < 600) // If the width is less than 600 calculate a new margin to center the new image {
var newMargin = (620 - newImage.width) / 2;
var newHtml = $('<img src="' + imagePath + '">');
$('#photoBox').css('margin-left',newMargin);
$('#photoBox').css('width',newImage.width);
} else
// assume width is 600 {
var newHtml = $('<img src="' + imagePath + '">');
$('#photoBox').css('width',newImage.width);
$('#photoBox').css('margin',5);
} newHtml.hide(); // hide the newHtml before prepending will fade it in
oldImage.hide(); // hide the old image
$('#photoBox').prepend(newHtml); // prepend the newHtml
newHtml.fadeIn(1000,function() { }); // now fade it in

I have a problem with a random link generator within a DIV. When I try it on my desktop it works fine, but does nothing once I upload it to the website.how to explain what happens, but here is it, more or less:The website is this: http:[url]....
Via an Ajax script, http:[url]..... is loaded into DIV "menu". Here's the script:
<script type="text/javascript">
ajaxpage('menu.html', 'menu') //load "menu.html" into "menu" DIV
</script>
Well, there's another load of stuff inside the <head> tag. You may see it from the main page source code.Anyway, if you go to the menu.html, the link generator will work there as it is intended; however, if you try it from the main page, it won't do anything. But people are not suppossed to go to menu.html. They are suppossed to load it from the index.html (I mean, plain http:url....)So, here's the link generator code:
---------------------------------
<script type="text/javascript">
function randomlinks(){[code].....
I believe this could be solved if I could target the generator to the whole window, 'cause maybe it's trying to open the new page inside the DIV. Well, I don't know...
I recently used a random link generator found at http://javascriptkit.com in my webpage: http://random-casino.com

But, now I want to be able to set a default picture to be shown first and have the random pics appear next. I also don't want the default pic to show up again in the random array. So basically, every time the page was first visited, or refreshed it would show the default picture then move into the random pics.
Firstly I've used jquery for about an hour now so that's how little I know, that's why this should be simple as :)Ok So I've been reading the docs on ids and ".attr"'s and have achieve half of what I need to do. I've used this:
$(".main_view").text($(".test2").attr("title"));
to get the title of an image and then display it. This works fine except it gets rid of the image. I want to be able to use display the image and use the title as a caption. After I'veachievedthis I'd also like to be able to put that title in a div so I can use css to muddle with it.
