JQuery :: Css Style Previously Changed Reverts Back To Original Property?
Oct 4, 2011
So I have a table. With jquery I change border properties of several td. If later on in the code those same td have their background color changed by jquery, their borders return back.
Even if nothing is changed, nevertheless after some time some of the borders would seemingly randomly suddenly show up. I am working on a maze so this really spoils the game.
Code:
if($("crush",xml).text()=='1'){
border1=$("border1",xml).text();
border2=$("border2",xml).text();
[Code].....

My understanding had been that $.css("width") would return the original user selected style, eg "100%" or "10em", and $.width() returned the computed width, always in "px". Not so, following the code through for .css(), it calls something called getComputedStyle and the only difference between the two functions turns out to be a post-fix of "px" on the .css() result - not very useful. I need to know whether my user has called me with a proportional dimension, or a fixed one. How to tell with jQuery?

I'm having some problem with return value for a function. I'm trying to access google blogger's API to display blog entries on my site. I'm doing this through JQuery and requesting a JSON response. Everything seems to work ok, but I want to access the link for the blog entry. This is a subset of the "entry" object.
It's structured like this:
Entry:
title,
content,
link:
rel,
type,
href,
rel,
type,
href,
I want to get the link where the "link.rel == "self". To do this I have to loop through the link object (5 times). The loop and conditional statement works correctly, but I can't get the variable inside this loop back to my original function.
I have this code:
$.each(data.feed.entry, function(i, entry){
$.each(entry.link, function(j, link){
if(link.rel == "self"){
var postlink = link.href;
alert("link : " + postlink);
return postlink;
}});
alert(postlink);
});

I recently updated from jQuery 1.4 (I think 1.4.4) to 1.5.1. Before the upgrade, when users pressed the browser's Back button, they would usually be taken back to a page with all their changes intact. If they had modified input values or clicked objects that caused other parts of the page to change, they would still see those changes. Back literally took them back to the exact thing they were looking at before. Under 1.5.1, Back takes them to the prior page as it was when it first loaded. What changed? Can I get the old behavior back?

I had read from books that the constructor property of object is inherited from its prototype. And the prototype can be changed dynamically. New property can be added to or deleted from object even it was created before the prototype change.
But I got confused on below codes.
But the actual result (both IE and firefox) is

There is a live search on my web page but the box of available options which falls below the 'input' field has a transparent background color. How can it be changed to non-transparent?This line below makes the background white, but all the text on the page shines through, since the default is transparent.
[CODE]
document.getElementById("linksearch").style.backgroundColor="#FFFFFF";

This instruction line does not help much 'cos I can't figure out the correct way to make it work:

I have a large form. The submit button doesn't work if the data to be posted back is too long.
1. How to send only MODIFIED fields back?
2. What's the max len of the data I can sent back using post method? Does it depend on browser?

I have say 12 pics on a page, in 3 rows of 4. The rows of pics are there so that a choice can be made from each row and I'm using a function <script>
var highlight_color = '#FF0033'; function toggle_highlight(id) { var images = document.getElementsByTagName('img'); for (var i = 0; i < images.length; i++) { var image = images[i]; image.style.borderColor = image.id == id ? highlight_color : 'white'; } } </script>
to toggle a border colour change so that you can see what was chosen from each row. The function I have used is fine in that it works, but I can only choose one picture and have the border changed, then if I click on another row the first border that changed obviously changes back and the new selection is highlighted. I don't really know where to go from here.

'When my form is submitted, I have onsubmit pointed to the following
code snippet. But, the button is not actually set to disabled and the
style.visibility changes are not made for several seconds. It appears
that it goes into validateForm and doing the rest of this snippet
before the browser makes the changes.
How can I get the browser to immediately make the UI change?
function submitForm(servleturl) {
var submitbuttonelem = document.getElementById("submit");
submitbuttonelem.disabled = true;
document.getElementById("modgradeform").style.visibility="hidden";
var mydiv = document.getElementById("contentarea");
mydiv.innerHTML = "Validating the form.";
mydiv.style.visibility="visible";
var ret = validateForm();

I ended up having to preset style with JavaScript.
Here is what I did.
CSS Code:
JavaScript Code:
HTML4Strict Code:
The first time I hit toggle, nothing happens. The second time I hit toggle, the hidden list appears, but only because I used JavaScript to set the display property.
My workaround is to do this in the HTML after the element to be toggled.
JavaScript Code:
Putting this code in the elements onload event property didn't work either, which I found odd, but I read that it was not the recommended way of doing this.
I can't figure out why the CSS declaration didn't load into the JavaScript HTML DOM. I suspect it's some sort of order of execution thing, like the difference between the two following function declarations.
JavaScript Code:

I have two radio buttons with two options,YES and NO. When the user click on YES, I use some JavaScript to display some text, as below:
obj.style.visibility='visible'
Or if they click No I collapse it again with a style change:
obj.style.visibility='hidden'
So, there has two scenarios:
1.) By default value is YES so the text is 'Visible', when user click on NO (the text will be hided) and submit by proceed to another page and When they then click the browser Back Button to return to the first page, the text is "visible'.
2.) By default, the text is "hide" and it will be reflected when user click on "YES", but when user proceed to another page and When they then click the browser Back Button to return to the first page, the text is "hide".

I have a CMS that was built for our company website that relies on some JS to upload media through a regular browser directly to be displayed on our site. There is a button one clicks to upload video. When clicked the file browser on your computer is supposed to pop-up so you can choose the media you would like to upload.This button no longer is responsive on any of my 12 mac desktops in any common browser nor my mac laptop which is on a different OS X version.
Here is the script from the page:
