i have found a possible bug in 1.4 but it's only in Internet Explorer 7 & 8.The following code does not work and completely ruins every peice of jquery on the page (that means everything inside $(document).ready and anyting else...
$("<div/>",{
id: 'tooltip-'+rand,
class: 'dock-tooltip',
[code]....
I cant see any syntax errors - i pulled the example from the 1.4 site. There is no trailing commas in the object notation and i really cant see any reason it would work in firefox and not IEx and more to the point not only not work in IEx but break any other jquery in the entire page....
I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:
[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:
[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].
In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.
I'm learning jQuery with XML. I'm familiar with other query languages such as XPath. I'm having a little bit of difficulty wrapping my brain around how jQuery works but I think I can make the leap if I see a solution to a problem I know how to solve with other methods Given the following XML, please share a jQuery solution to finding the value of attribute B in elements named bar where attribute A has the value 30:

I'll trying to tell the difference between the following three cases:
<img alt="text string" />
<img alt="" />
<img />
I can do this in Firefox with the following code, where elem is the
HTMLElement representing each image, but IE doesn't seem to
differentiate between empty string and undefined.
var alt = elem.getAttribute('alt');
alt = (alt) ? alt : ((alt===null) ? 'really_null' : "");
The desired output from running this code on the 3 tags above is:
text string
really_null
It seems like this should be really easy...but I'm having a really
difficult time trying to figure out what's going on...
If I try to append a PARAM tag twice I'm having problems:
var.medDiv = document.getElementById("myDiv");
var medObj = document.createElement("object");
var p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("FileName",this.URL);
medObj.appendChild(p);
p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("AutoStart","false");
medObj.appendChild(p); // <-- this one
medDiv.appendChild(medObj);
The line with the "this one" comment triggers IE to tell me that it has
an invalid argument. If I change the order of the PARAMs then the new
second PARAM will give me the error. If I move the setAttribute to after
the appendChild I still get the error.
This is a JQuery gallery, the first code is in an external js file, the following code is in the head part.
Why set var $ j = jQuery.noConflict (); is invalid?
I have put many jquery plungin in my page, so I try $$ and jQuery to instead of $, but they still did not work.
HTML Code:
Is there anything 'wrong' with setting the value of a drop down menu
using the following?
document.frmStep1.drpInvaddress.value = 'A1020761603!>>R2'
This string is a key in our database that I have no control over and I
want to set the value of the menu according to this value because it
is unique. I suspect that the '' or the '>' or the '!' is making
Javascript think that this is a different type of data than string.
Is there a way to 'force' Javascript to interpret this as string?
I am writing a web site that uses JavaScript to validate certain forms
and I seem to be having some trouble. The site uses PHP and for one of
the forms, depending on the situation, one of of the text inputs does
not exist - the PHP doesn't generate the HTML for it. I wanted to have
the validation script check the length of the input if it exists but I
knew that I might have trouble if I tried to check the value of the
input without first checking that the input exists so I tried using
code similar to this:
if(document.getElementById("someId")!=null &&
document.getElementById("someId").value.length<8)
{
alert("String must be at least 8 characters.");
}
However, when I try that in Firefox (that's the only browser I've tried
so far), the validation script exits, the form is submitted with
errors, and I get a message in the JavaScript console saying that the
ID that I gave was invalid. I know it's invalid! That's why I checked
for null!
I thought that getElementById() would return null if the ID was
invalid. Is there any way to check if the input exists before
validating its value?
I amreceivingthe following error on IE8:Invalid argument. jquery-1.4.2.js, line 5899 character 5 Now I have used the debugger, and this seems to be the only error it catches. And I realize that I could go through each line of what I wrote and figure out what line triggered this portion of jQuery. However in the interest of making jQuery better, I want to understand this error and fix it in the jQuery file.

I'm making a small web app and I want to upload files on the server. Everything works fine, but what I want to achieve is to remove any special chars in the value name.My value name is 'NewFile'. I want to remove any special chars from the name before the upload process, ex.: remove things likeAll I want to keep in the string is small caps english letters (no etc.) and numbers. no spaces. I want to keep underscores and dashes too ( - and _ ).I can't seem to get it.That it what I used;
Code:
NewFile = NewFile.replace(/[^a-zA-Z 0-9]+/g,'');
I'm not very good in javascript, I took this code on the web.
I wrote a form and a JavaScript to valid the form. I cannot figure out however how to stop the form from submitting if the form is invalid.

function validateForm()
{
if(""==document.test.custName.value)

I am currently writing code to populate a select tag with all the hours of the day. I recently rewrote a function that will populate a temporary select tag based off a time passed in as an argument and then return the temporary select at the end. When I attempt to assign the product to a variable, Javascript gives the error "Invalid Assignment on left-hand side." Have I stumbled onto one of the cases where you can't directly assign variables to each other, or is this a syntax error?
This the line that is giving me an error
eval(select1) = newHours('000');
Where select1 is a variable that contains the name of the day and a number, both of which change depending on input, hence the eval statement. The function newHours returns a temporary select.
I'm trying to duplicate some PHP code in JS, but keep running into "invalid quantifier" errors for regular expressions.Here's an example of what I'm working with:
Code JavaScript:
var elementId = 'ipaddress';
var regexsplice_IP_ADDRESS = '(?:[0-9]{1,3}.[0-9]{1,3}+.[0-9]{1,3}+.[0-9]{1,3}+)';
if(!RegExp(regexsplice_IP_ADDRESS).test(elementId.value))){

1) do I need to double up on the backslashes within a string using single quotes on characters that are seen as escape characters in regex, but not javascript?
2) do I need to start and end the string with a special character, like I would with preg_match in PHP?
3) To use the RegExp() function to prepare a regular express created from a string...can I use it like in the example above? Or do I have to use a separate delcaration like: var theregex = new RexExp(regexsplice_IP_ADDRESS);
I need to validate my username field so that is only contains letters and numbers, it is crucial that it doesnt contain any invalid characters, especially whitespaces. I'm using a yaromat.com java pluging to validate the form, i currently have it so that it checks that username field is not empty, but could someone please please show me how to add a check for invalid characters. Here is the function for my validation. Thankyou a million, truly, i only know how to do this in php, but it really should be along with the other validation on Submit. Code:

I do my development on a local PC before putting the code onto a website.
Something I need to do is set the document.domain to the top level domain for a page. The top level domain will be supplied via config item.
The small issue is that my top level domain when developing is "mypc" and attempting to set document.domain to "mypc" kills the javascript.
I tried this as a work around:
Code:
But this still triggers a complete failure of javascript on the page. I also tried using eval to do it, but it still kills things.
It there another trick to try setting the domain without dieing that doesn't involve validating the domain string before attempting to set it?
[Edit] I am aware that it's dieing because "mypc" is clearly not a FQDN as it expects.
I'm testing my webpage in IE8. In firefox it looks and runs greag, but in IE 8, one issue I'm having is this: I have a button that opens a popup window. Works fine in Firefox, but I get 'invalid argument' error in IE8 and the window does not open. I've enabled at a whim some scripting things in the Internet Options.
Here's the code. The "invalid argument" occurs on the window.open call.
In addition, is there any way to have that tile I've given it, "my Site..." appear in the window header? Right now it's not appearing at all in either browser.
I am wanting all the inputs of the table cells turn red when invalid data (in this case anything other than a number) is entered. Object:
1. To add a className to those inputs
2. With the new className 'invalid" the CSS gives a red background to the input The appending of the className is not showing up in the generated source code and both Firefox and Chrome is not showing any errors in the code. I can't not figure out what is preventing the execution.

I would like to use one or more RegExps to validate country names as having
the first and last words beginning with an uppercase letter, intermediate
words beginning with either uppercase or lowercase, and all other characters
being lowercase characters. For example:
Turks and Caicos
The difficult part is that I want to obtain save the string positions of the
invalid characters in an array, rather than just obtain a true or false
value.
Can anybody with more experience with Regular Expressions than me suggest
some code, sites, or approaches.
Is there a way to check the page for invalid usage (e.g. text boxes using .text which doesnt exist)? I originally thought I could use the .data("events") but then realize that .text and .val isn't an event which is pretty obvious but I'm stuck now. I already know my selector is $('input[type="text"]') but is there any way to see if anywhere on the page is improperly calling .text()?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded one of our development sites to 1.3.2 and ui 1.7. I have also updated all of the plugins (forms,validate,thickbox,calculation,blockUI,autogrow) to the latest versions which should all be compatible with 1.3.2 and the site is working perfectly in Firefox 3 on OS X and XP. However on IE8rc1 and in IE7 compat mode I am getting an Invalid Argument error reported at line 12 of jquery-1.3.2.min.js. That is the usual really helpful IE error message and I have been unable to track down the source of the problem. I have noticed that some people have seen this problem with the ui.accordion and 1.7 was supposed to have fixed the issue. Does anyone know of a fix (apart from banning the use of IE - if only)? If I could get the error in FF I could at least use Firebug to debug it. I think I might need to comment out each plugin and see if I can trace the source of the error.
