AJAX :: IE8 Not Rendering - Unhide A Div With An Animated Loading Icon - Then Hide It Again When Loading Is Complete

Aug 26, 2010

Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.

Stopping Animated Gifs

Feb 16, 2007

I'd like to write Javascript that stops animated gifs from animating.

On Firefox, at least, window.stop(); does the trick, although it stops
everything on the page and is kind of unpredictable. If I connect it
to the onload event, sometimes only half the page will be displayed.
Does the onload even fire before rendering?

Does anyone know a reasonable way to accomplish my original goal of
stopping animating gifs from animating?

Javascript And Animated Gifs

Jul 15, 2002

I used a javascript function to pass a php variable to a pop up window. The problem is that when the new widow opens the old main page's animated gifs stop cycling. I have to re-load the page to get them working again once the pop up is closed. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Animated Gifs Not Animating In Non-IE Browsers / Why Is So?

Nov 25, 2010

Does anyone have an explanation for why animated .gifs might not animate in FF, Chrome, etc.? Only IE does it right for me.

I suspect it might have something to do with tables squeezing the graphic (if the .gif is inside a table with a 100% width cell... but even giving the cell with the .gif a width doesn't seem to help.)

Is it true?

I realise tables are not best used for this purpose, but did this also happen in the good old tables days?

Ensure At Least One Checkbox Or Input Element Is Checked Or Not Empty

Sep 28, 2006

I'm currently developing an online work brief, where the user has to
enter details regarding the project into a form. I've come to a section
in the form where the user has the option of selecting between two
checkboxes and an input element. I have to ensure that at least one of
the checkboxes have been checked or that the input element is not
empty. I've come up with this function:

function validateMedia(){
var count = 0;
if(document.workBrief.mediaOnline.checked){
count++;
}
if(document.workBrief.mediaPrint.checked){
count++;
}
if(document.workBrief.mediaOther.value != ""){
count++;
}
if(count 0){
return true;
}else{
alert('Please choose at least one media option');
return false;
}}

I'm sure there is a more effiecient way of writing this.

IE - Ensure Required Fields Populated Before Screen Prints

Apr 14, 2011

I have a basic html form with some text input fields and a couple drop down selection lists. Our employees print the form and include it with items they need our shipping department to ship for them. The form uses the following verification script to ensure the required fields have been populated before the screen prints. It works exactly as desired in Safari and Firefox. In Internet Explorer, however, the selections made in the drop down lists are reset to the default values on the printed form.

Before you respond with, "don't use Internet Explorer," you have to understand that Internet Explorer is our only corporate approved web browser because it is the only browser supported by some of our other "mission critical" third party web apps and because it can be more rigorously controlled using Group Policies than Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, et al, can. How to make the form print without resetting the drop down list selections? :confused:

<script language="javascript">
function verify() {
var themessage = "You must provide the following information";
if (document.shipment.SenderName.value == "") {
themessage = themessage + ", Sender Name";
} .....

Animated Gifs Not Displaying Correctly When Using SetTimeout Only In Firefox?

Dec 29, 2010

I am trying to make a simple image change involving an animated gif using javascript. After 5 seconds, the original image (which is simply a transparent pixel gif) changes to an animated gif.

in the body:

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

[Code]...

I know this isn't a problem with the gif itself, because displaying the gif in firefox does not produce any issues. Does anyone know why these problems are occurring in firefox? I'd like not to have to use a broken src link to make it work, and it's weird that that's a way to solve the animation issues.

Long JavaScript Processes Prevent Animated GIFs Animation

Oct 26, 2007

I am working on some JavaScript, that amongst other things does
searches in an index. The search can take a couple of seconds, and I
would like to disable the form button that the user clicked to trigger
the search. In addition I would like an animated GIF to appear,
visualizing that a search process is ongoing.

My problem is: While the procedure that implements the search is
executed, the browser window is not refreshed. The button stays in
"down" mode, the gif freezes.

Is there some command I could insert in between my code statements
that lets the browser refresh it's window's contents?

Date Comparison In Months - 2 User Input To Ensure That Date2 Is At Least 2 Months After Date1

Jul 20, 2009

how to compare 2 user input dates (say Date1 and Date2) in dd/mm/yyyy format, to ensure that Date2 is at least 2 months after Date1. Comparing them in days is simple but I'm not sure where to start on months, taking into account differing number of days per month and leap years. e.g 01/01/2009 - 28/02/2009 would equal 2 months.

JQuery :: Ensure Links In A Page(a Page From Any Possible Website) To Open In A New Tab?

Jan 8, 2012

I want to develop a multi-tab browser plugin, which requires all links in a page could open in new tabs within this multi-tab browser plugin. It's very similar to Multi-Tab functions of Firefox/IE, when opening a page in one tab, then any links in that Tab will open in another new tab(after setup from pref), i want to know this principle(how to implement this). I am thinking try this:$('a').click(...), while i am not sure whether it's good/enough.

JQuery :: Basic Page Loading DIV - Full Window DIV That Sits Above All The Content With A Loading Icon

Oct 21, 2009

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.

The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.

After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.

The current code is:

CSS for the loading DIV is:

Iframe :: Each Browser Shows The Loading Icon, As If A Page Was Loading?

Mar 19, 2010

I have a lot of javascript functions that request information from an iframe hidden on the page. I see other sites do this, but their browser does not do the loading action (like the processing circle in Firefox). When I do it on my site, each browser shows the loading icon, as if a page was loading. Is it possible to not have this?

That is a sample link. Go down right side of page where you see three buttons: Trailers Featurettes Clips.Those return iframe information to work.

Auto Complete

Jul 20, 2005

In IE when autocomplete is working and the user picks the drop down in a Input text box, the password will appear giving the user quick access to the next step. But the cursor should occur to the right of the inserted "*"'s in the pasword box. But for me my cursor is just sitting at the end of the Input box I mentioned. I would like the cursor to sit at the end of the "*"'s in the password box.

I tried disabling the Input box and all that did is crash Internet Explorer plus it didn't put the cursor at the end of the "*"'s in the password box anyway. Any suggestions how I can get what is normal in this case?
