I have a disabled submit button sitting in the fieldset of a form. What I'd like to do is attach a click event to this button, but from what I understand this can't be done since you can't attach events to disabled elements.
Is it possible to attach it to the fieldset? I'm not completely familiar with event bubbling but maybe it's possible to capture the element clicked?
I need to cancel the link and execute a function onclick of all the
links within the span tag which has a class of "container" assigned.
There will be only one span tag with this class applied.
I know you can get a specific tag using:
document.getElementsByTagName('span')[0], but I am unsure how to get
the one with the class="container". I know there is a getAttribute
method, just need a pointer or two to put it all together. Once I know
how to access the specific links I want do the equivelant of <a

I am making this button in a JSP file. I am trying to make the button do two things: save changes to a profile and, when clicked, display the text "saved" below it. I have an list <li> of uploaded files. Next to each file is a remove button In my js file I have code like the following

Now if the user uploads a new file via ajax, the <li> list adds a new rown with a remove button
But this button doesnt bind to the click event oulined above. How can I enforce this without a page refresh. A page refresh binds the click event to the new row

It keeps indicating me that there is an error when calling the method on button click.
the code i have works in ff, chrome, opera, safari. but not ie7.in the callback function i append to the dom and after it exists in the dom i attach an event to it. this works in other browsers but does nothing in ie.. what could be causing this?

I have an object that has a click event I'm trying to trigger. However in the click event I have the following if statement:
if(event.button != 0){return true;}
This if statement allows right clicks to go through and activate but it also prevents me from triggering the event. Any ideas on how to prevent this? what happens when you have an onclick event and an error occurs in it:
In an <a> element:
onclick="zoomFullExtent(); return false;"
I know that there is an error happening in zoomFullExtent. I didn't
define my own error handler, so the default one is used.(My browser is
Firefox 1.0).
I notice that when this error happens, the browser makes a request to
the server.
I thought that if an error happened in zoomFullExtent, the default
error handler would catch it, and then zoomFullExtent would return
normally. But that doesn't seem to happen. Instead the whole onclick
script returns or is aborted? And it seems to return true so that the
request is made. Is there a page where this program flow is explained?
I have PHP file called file1.php with an empty <div></div> in the middle. I've added a 'load' event listener so that on page load, it calls an AJAX function that calls file2.php. file2.php creates a table and loads it into the <div></div> in file1.php.
file2.php has <a> tags in it's <th> columns and I wish to trap when a user clicks on the column heading. The old way was to use the onclick() method but I'd rather use event listeners.
Here's my problem. I am getting "obj has no properties" when trying to add those listeners. I *think* it is because the code in file2.php isn't part of the original DOM tree for file1.php. So how can I use event listeners instead of onlclick()? I know I can add top the DOM by creating elements and appending them but that adds to the HTML code and my code is already in place via the AJAX call. What to do...? DO I just use the old passe onclick() method?

I'm trying to "progressively enhance" one of my surveys using javascript. Basically, I have rating scales that make use of radio buttons as each point on the scale. Each radio button occupies its own cell in a table. I wrote some functions that will highlight cells on mouseover in a color corresponding to its position on the scale (e.g. the lowest point is red, the midpoint is yellow, the highest point is green). When a radio button is clicked, the background of the button's cell and preceding cells in the same row will be colored accordingly. The functions are working well in FireFox and Chrome (I just have to add a few lines using the addEvent function to make it compatible with IE).
The effect looks a lot nicer when I add a function that makes the visibility of the radio buttons hidden.
However, I want to make sure that there is a fallback option in case the functions that color the cells don't work for whatever reason. I would not want the radio buttons hidden in this case.
Is there a method whereby I can call the "hideRadiobuttons" function only if the other functions are successfully executed?
