Four Flyer Images Aren't Being Positioned Correctly Upon Uploading Of Page
Feb 1, 2010
I'm not sure is this is a CSS issue or one that can be solved with JavaScript, but I'm having a problem with this page URL...where the text on the four flyer images aren't being positioned correctly upon the uploading of the page. However, when you refresh again, it positions correctly. At first I thought this was a caching issue on my computer, but it did the same thing on someone else's.I'm a perfectionist (as you all are as well ) and I don't like things moving around or being out of position.If it doesn't happen on your computer when you first upload it, try it again because it's an on and off thing.

Anyone know of a method to lazy load images which are absolutely positioned on top of each other? I have seen the lazy load plugins out there, but none of them seem to work with this layout. I am using jQuery cycle to animate a slideshow. Cycle takes the slides and absolutely positions them on top of one another. Any way to lazy load these? I'm sure I could do it custom but pulling all of the slides not currently active and load them later, but I am looking for an easier way.

I've designed a web page that uses several DIVs that use absolute positioning so they can layer on top of each other with transparent shadows. You can view the design here:http:[url]...The client wanted the whole design to center in the window horizontally, and since I can't use margin: 0 auto; to achieve this, I'm using a script that detects the window size using the onLoad operator in the body tag. This is the script:
Code:
<!--
window.onresize= alertSize;
function alertSize() {[code].....
It works, but I don't like that the page snaps back to the left every time a new page loads. Is there a way for the script to detect the window size from the previous page so that the design won't jump if the window hasn't been resized?

Piece of simple javascript that I can't get to behave. It's a basic image/slideshow.....
in the <head> section.....
<script type="text/javascript">
var image1=new image() image1.src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpLavender.jpg";
var image2=new image() image2.src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpCreams.jpg";
var image3=new image() image3.src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpBathMelts.jpg";
var image4=new image() image4.src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpCandles.jpg";
var image5=new image() image5.src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpMostlyMen.jpg";
</script>
And then in the body:
<img src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpLavender.jpg" name="slide" border="0" alt="">
<script type = "text/javascript">
var step=1;
function slideit() {
if (!document.images) {return}
document.images.slide.src=eval("image"+step+".src");
if (step<5) {step++}
else {step=1}
setTimeout("slideit()",2500);
}slideit();
</script>
The coding seems to be tripping up on the line:
document.images.slide.src=eval("image"+step+".src");
(I inserted document.write statements before and after this line and only received the 'before' statement).
The image before the javascript kicks in
<img src="../Images/WebSite/HomePage/HpLavender.jpg" name="slide" border="0" alt="">
displays fine - and the images listed in the header are correctly named.

This might be a combo Javascript / CSS question I'm building a website, and I'm wanting to have small, approx 100px x 100px pop up display that has a "page loading" spinning gif. I also want the page to fade out while this image is displayed. For instance, someone submits a form that takes 3-4 seconds to load. Once they hit submit, the screen darkens, the new window comes into focus, center of screen, and it has some kind of rotating gif, basically a trigger 'on submit'..

I am sorry if this is a stupid question. I have never really used javascript before. I found some code online that I tried to piece together so I might not even be going about this the right way.
I want the background to take up 100% and resize with the browser. That works fine. I also want the text "welcome to the ahi life" stick to the bottom left hand corner and the enter button to stick to the bottom right. I would like these to resize with the browser as well. It all kind of works, except the first time you load the page the text and the button are much smaller than I would like them to be. If you refresh the page everything is correct.

I built this worksheet generator. When you generate a worksheet, it seems to work fine in IE8, but in firefox, it stays loading. The little loading icon never goes away. Also, when you look at the print preview, the problems don't appear on the first page, they appear on the second page.
My only guess as to why firefox stays loading forever when you generate a worksheet is maybe the onSubmit = false I put in the form?
Code:
<form name='answer' method='post' action='decimal_worksheet.html' onSubmit='return false;'>
I've attached the webpage as a text file.

When I call FadeTo or Hide, the fontstyling on my elements seems to get lost. This happens with both1.3.2 and 1.4.1 on IE8, running IIS6 on my local Windows machine. The attachment illustrates the problem. Click the Hide/Show button to toggle between the states. With minor and obvious modifications in the source code you can switch back and forth between the FadeTo and Hide/Show techniques. Both are set to happen slowly, so thatyou can see that the problem begins immediately as soon as the function is called. The font style on the screen visibly changes, and remains corrupted afterwards as you toggle back and forth. My own classes on the elements, linked to the embedded CSS,remain unchanged througout the scenario.The attachment is named test.txt because, of all things, this site doesn't seem to allow htm files to be attached. Rename it to test.htm (youwill also have to adjust the path to your jquery file) and give it a run.I'm a noob,so I fully expect that there's a simple explanation for this. I look forward to it.

I have a simple javascript overlay (like a lightbox) with a message that pops up. The user is meant to click a button, see the overlay thanking them for their vote, and then be redirected to the affiliate page (its a poll site) after about 3 seconds. I have everything down, except, it will either display the overlay as one of the onClick events, or it will do the timedRedirect but not both. I've tried putting the redirect before and after, and when its before it redirects, when its after, it shows the overlay. How can I do a timed redirect and show this message?
<script type="text/JavaScript">

I've recently begun this week going through tutorials to learn some jQuery. My whole motivation was to create little windows that aren't entire new pop up pages. Think of being on facebook, going through some pictures and clicking the "Share" button. It's a new window that pops up but not an entirely new page if that makes sense.Unfortunately the w3schools tutorial didn't really point me in a direction to be able to do this. Any ideas on where to learn it?My real intentions are to learn how to do something like the pop up that you see when you first load this page:

I have an embedded video set in an iFrame (the page is called on.php). When someone clicks the stop video button, the iframe is re-directed to off.php, and the video is replaced with a play video button -- which when clicked takes them back to the video (on.php).
What I want to do is install a cookie that will permanently 'remember' which page the user has selected (on.php or off.php)... and then from that point forward will always load the appropriate page.
I've seen all sorts of tutorials about setting cookies and stuff, but nothing that would clue me in on how to accomplish what I'm trying to do specifically.

I was under the impression, via W3Schools that 'checked' is only a property of radio/checkbox input objects. I was trying out this code that loops through several different types of inputs:
Code:
//start loop
var elem = theInput[i]; //grab the input
if('checked' in elem && !elem.checked) { continue; }
//...do some other stuff
//end loop
As you can tell, I want to skip all radio/checkbox inputs that aren't checked because they are meaningless in my circumstance.....the problem is, it skips over EVERYTHING (that isn't checked) regardless of if it's a hidden input, text input, password input, etc..... I did a quick test:

I've wondering if anyone knows of a script where I can scroll a div down the page as the user scrolls down the page. You know, like those annoying ads do sometimes
I've googled for some, but the ones I've tried only work to varying degrees when I want the div positioned relatively. The reason I want it relatively positioned is that my site is centred, and fixed-width.
Basically, I need it to scroll up and down in a 'side bar' area, and the main problem I seem to be having: not scroll below my footer area.

All I've been able to find everywhere for this is examples of changing images when rolling over them or clicking them, and I don't need that.
What I need is a bit of javascript that will recognise some image paths on a page and replace those image paths with other ones.
It's for an ecommerce website on a certain platform, using a customer reviews section which outputs star images based on the customer's rating. So, the images used (which look awful) are, for example, "sourcehere/stars_5.gif", "sourcehere//stars_4.gif", and so on. Just 5 of them.
I want to design my own 5 images, upload those images, and then have the javascript replace the rubbish looking ones on the page with my own images.
I thought I'd be able to find something quite easily, but so far all I can find is examples of mouseover events and so on, and I don't need any of that, just the entire image replaced with my own image.

I'm having an issue with looping a set of divs that are positioned on top of each other. When a link is clicked, the second div should fade in as the top div fades out, which coincides with another div changing background colour.As you'll notice, when the link is clicked for a third time, it loops back to the beginning by using the rel tag to keep track of what div is showing. The problem is that when it loops to the beginning the animation is not in sync with the second div changing colour.The code for all three is exactly the same and it doesn't matter how many coloured divs you have, it's always the last one fading out that causes the issue. The '#second' colour change fires after the box changes, not synchronised like the previous clicks.This is a basic example that I'm using on a site elsewhere so the concept of the second div fading in and then the first fading out is important - I can't switch so the first fades out then the second fades in.

I have a Div element (id=Div1) that is absolutely positioned on the page. Inside it I have another Div (id=Div2) that is absolutely sized so that it fills the whole of Dvi1.Looking at the UI/Effects/Scale page in the API docs I see the example code:
$("div").click(function () {
$(this).hide("scale", {}, 1000);
});
Translating this I am trying to make Div2 shrink until it vanishes, as shown in the example, so I am using $("#Div2") to get this done, however, it does not work.Is this because the Div (either of them!) is absolutely positioned? Ideally Id like Div2 to shrink away to nothing on the click of a button, but first steps first.

I have an absolute positioned navigation on my page that makes you jumps up or down the page to view some pictures placed in another absolute positioned DIV with scroll bar. The navigation is simply made by numbers: 1 2 3 4 5 6. When you rollover 2 is underlined and onclick the page jumps down to the second picture and the number 2 stays underlined, and so on for 3 4 5 6. The style changes this way
HTML
<span id='first' class="selected"><a href="#1" onclick="first()">1 </a></span>
<span id='secondo' class="normal"> <a href="#2" onclick="second()">2 </a></span>
and so on for 3 4 5 6
[Code]....
What I would like to do is to make the style change automatically also when the user scroll the page instead of clicking. I thought I could control the y coordinate with window.onscroll but because what scrolls is the DIV and not the page the window.onscroll doesn't work. Is there a way to control the same way the scroll of a DIV? Or should I build the site differently?

I am having a problem with an absolutely-positioned div disappearing while IE7 is animating. The animation has a z-index lower than the div containing Questions, Customizable, and Library, but the div disappears during animation. Is there anything I can do about this? I've tried changing the positioning, z-index, and moving the div to occur before the animation, but nothing seems to work. Everything looks fine in FF, IE8, and Safari.

I have a routine that centers an object. I pass it a string such as "#myid" and it sets the 'left' property based on the width of the object and of the monitor.
Now in theory I could just use <center> tags, but I'm trying to center an object that is positioned using the 'absolute' attribute. It seems that <center> tags have no effect on 'absolute' positioned objects.
(I need the 'absolute' because the screensscroll underneath it). Anyway, I've been told that this is bad practice, and positioning should always be done via css, and never jquery/javascript. But I don't see any other way to do this. Is there one?
